  • No. The acknowledgment that compromises are part of the process, and pollyannish standards are unrealistic.

  • The putative choice between "getting a Democrat elected at the cost of abandoning a clear call for principled leadership now," and "standing up for the rule of law and risking giving McCain a campaign cudgel," might best be served by distillation unto its essence, which is this:

Come November, would you prefer a Democrat or a Republican in the White House?

  • Addington is a punk. A big guy with a small heart.

When the Obama administration begins its inquiry after the condition in which they found the country, Mssrs. Dick "Cheney" Capone and David "Addington" Nitti will learn contrition.

  • Destor,

While it is obviously your wont, this is no time for crassness. Your bitterness is misplaced and ill-timed. Russert was conventional--perhaps to a fault, but he was certain no villain. He tried to be nice. You should give it a shot sometime.

  • "I have nothing really against Clinton. I think in many ways she'd be a wonderful president."

    Please.

Setting aside her naturally abrasive personality and her blatantly amoral ethics, I am hard pressed to imagine Hillary being anything more than a vector for continued rancor--at home and abroad. There is no more divisive, polarizing figure on the American political landscape.

Furthermore, notwithstanding her "ready on day one" and "3AM phone call" assertions, I cannot shake the sense that winning the election is her mission. Period. She wants to be the boss. The first female in the Oval Office. To her, everything else is just nettlesome detail and political intrigue.

And, speaking of "Day One," Hillary's candidacy reeks of perpetuity. Day One will be the first day of a re-election campaign that will dominate the agenda of her first term to the exclusion of all else. Her second term will be similarly devoted to repealing the 22nd amendment. Such is the depth of her megalomania.

    SHE IS NOT WORTHY!

  • zhoyt posits:

"Black people do not support Obama because Hillary is white...SOME white people vote for Hillary because Obama is black."

    Then asks:

    "See the difference?"

The difference is clear, but the veracity of your assertion is not.

Indeed, SOME people DO support Obama because Hillary is white. To suggest otherwise is pollyanish at best. Black folk are bigots too, y'know--and as such, there are those who would vote for Willie Horton over Mother Theresa, purely on the basis of race.

I'm all for Obama, and I cannot abide Hillary, but there is no need to stoop to inanity in the service of the cause.

  • Indeed, the tech-boomy/zero deficit/red-hot economy of the Clinton Years was downright odious compared to these salad-days at the dawn of the 21st Century.

Bill was no holy man, and Lord knows he had his defects, but life was good while he was in office, and his mistakes were more damaging to him than to the country.

It can hardly be said that he "got it wrong" in his administration of the peoples business, and it's unfair to infer that he was just lucky.

And, if we are to compare acronyms, I match your NAFTA with my WMD, GDP or WTF anytime!

I'm so sick of Bush that I no longer have the strength to hate him. I have no use for Hillary, and I lament the low state to which her husband has brought himself in her service.

And while I regret his former boorishness as much as his current loutishness, I will never forget what a hoot it was, back in the day, when busboys drank champagne, receptionists traveled in sports cars, and everybody's refrigerator was made of brushed aluminum.

  • Speciousness. Hillary's ability to outperform Democratic rivals in these so-called "tough districts" is not particularly relevant to a general election in which the Democratic nominee competes with a Republican.

Similarly, Hillary's victory in PA is not a predictor of November's results. Give the Democratic infrastructure and the Rendell machine to Obama vs. McCain, and watch what happens.

Hillary needs to go home now. She is done.
