Noonan is the poet whose commentary almost always does not pass the test of logic or history. She definitely writes from the heart and not the head...and that, I suppose, is why people fell for the actor who impersonated a President using her words. The problem with the conservative side of the NYT Op-Ed page is that the standard-bearer is Wm Safire, who, too, was a propagandist non-pareil, full of public-relations-based sound & fury who was never held accountable for being so wrong so much of the time. He was also a shill for the Likudnik school of politics. The conservative brand has been soiled by the neo-cons; nobody knows what a conservative is anymore. Hitchens maybe?

Either we live in a free society or we don't. Adult-oriented porn wouldn't be such a huge internet, video-rental, hotel-recreation business if it didn't appeal to such quotidian people as the good Judge (and many in so-called Red States), who in the aggregate clearly outnumber any pervs & deviants. And by the way, access to porn is considered a good outlet for the potentially violent sexaholics out there to dissipate their unsavory energies. I hope he toughs this out.

Another argument for housing white-collar criminals with blue-collar criminals. The system would never give a blue-collar criminal a 3yr gap between conviction & sentence. Justice is supposed to be swift & sure for all. This Upstairs/Downstairs system we have is disgraceful in its disparities.

Ms. Rice is no more than an errand-girl sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill. She has a proven history of using male mentors to inflate her ambitions and then move on to a new ideology. She will likely move on after GWBush moves to his Crawford rocker. There are plenty of other mentors available.

Stephanopoulus is just another errand boy sent by grocery clerks collecting a bill (this time for the right wingers who run Disney/ABC). He has corporatized himself for the paycheck. Also, in is current role he will never admit a mistake; that's what made him useful to the Clintons, too. All spin; all the time. He only admitted mistakes after the fact when he wrote a book about his experiences (and theirs). The paycheck rules.
