  • Phooey! My comment was supposed to be a response to Dave Bowman's clip that raises questions about McCain and the Forrestal tragedy. Sorry.

  • I wonder if this is the reason that the McCain campaign and its media surrogates are turning Clark's completely reasonable comments into some kind of an attack. Perhaps by creating the perception that McCain's record is unassailable and not open to review or judgement, they hope that the kinds of questions raised at your link won't be asked. Personally, I have always had profound respect and admiration for John McCain's courage and conduct as a POW. But his abandonment of his principles in order to gain the nomination and the office of the Presidency make him completely unacceptable for the office.

  • Am I a concern troll? This morning my son just happened to decide to put "Fahrenheit 911" in the cd player. Do you remember that it starts with Gore winning Florida and the election? It reminded me that Gore won in 2000 and the election was stolen from him and from the country! Then I remember the black box voting film with the scenes of African Americans in Ohio standing in the late evening dark and pouring rain to get a chance at the too few voting machines. I imagine that the crooks that have been inhabiting our executive branch are pretty determined not to allow the people (us) to get into a position where we might actually be able to hold them accountable. On the merits, I can't see how McCain can win. But if the Repugnants can get anywhere close in the numbers, I think they will try to steal this election. That is why we need to have overwhelming numbers of votes for Obama. Two points in Ohio is not enough.

  • Thank you for this link. I have sent it to my mom who just two days ago was parroting the Clinton attack against Obama on the Iraq War vs. war funding votes. It will be of interest to her also because she was a Tsongas supporter in 1992. She probably has no idea that a Bill Clinton lie scuttled the Tsongas nomination bid. Reading the linked article and this diary reminds me of why we can all breathe a sigh of relief that Obama will be our nominee.

  • Presto,
I tried to reply to you, but it posted down at the bottom of the page. I think the allocation they came up with is predicated on the fact that there is no way to know the will of the voters based on the primary vote because Obama wasn't on the ballot. That might be why the RBC would have accepted a 50-50 split because it would have been a fairer allocation based on an illegitimate primary vote.

By accepting the Michigan Dem Party proposal, which was more generous to Clinton, Obama was offering an olive branch.

I think Hillary stands to lose if she takes this to the credentials committee. They could actually reduce her allocation of delegates from Michigan to a 50-50 split, truly a fairer proposition. She could also lose by engendering more divisiveness in the party when we need to be coming together; she would certainly be blamed if the Dems were to lose in November. I suppose that the credentials committee could also give Hillary what she was asking for, a 73-0 split, but I doubt very many objective persons could see that as fair. And would that even really help her win the nomination or the Presidency?

  • I can understand your argument, and that it is why I think a 50-50 split would have been better because it would have reflected the fact that the Michigan Primary was illegitimate. There is no way that the vote can be considered a true reflection of the electorate's will because Obama was not on the ballot.

I think that is why the RBC was willing to support a 50-50 split, because they recognized that no other way of allocating the votes would be fairer. Obama was generous to the Michigan Democratic Party which was trying to achieve a compromise that all sides could live with. He was generous to Clinton because he could have demanded more.

Hillary could fight on, but at this point I don't think she would have much to gain. I feel sad for her and her supporters, but I hope that we can come together to help elect Barack Obama. The healing is gonna be tough I know, but let's try because we really do have to fight together if we are going to have a chance to change the direction of the country.
    Peace.

  • Baloney! We really want to see Hillary go away. She just won't do it. We have to fight back until she's gone. But maybe you can explain why you are so laid back about the fact that she is still fighting when she can't win in a fair fight. Even as a Clinton supporter (at one time) you have to concede that she is hurting the party.

And actually, the fact that she should be gone and isn't, makes the anxiety that Obama supporters feel even worse. Again, since she can't win in a fair fight, we expect her to go even dirtier. She and hers are snakes, poisonous snakes.
