  • One election, with a two year gap before being re-elected, if I'm not mistaken.

  • I seriously thought pinkystab was a joke before I read the following comments! Ridiculous!

  • I have to echo Elizabeth2 here. The main reason I first got interested in Obama, after the 2004 convention speech, was that I just happened to buy a copy of Dreams from my Father at a buy 2 get 1 free booksale. After one chapter, I called my father and said, "You have got to buy this book." His perceptiveness and openness to human experience were so unusual for politicians of any stripe. So while the contention that "anyone can write a book" (with ghostwriters) may apply to other politicians, Dreams from my Father is wholly removed from that genre, and actually--for me, my father, and my Republican grandmother-- speaks to a very authentic personality. Just one family's opinion.

  • I think what we're seeing here is the fault lines of the Democratic Party; you've got the more conservative, working class voters (plus a loyal cadre of women) on one side, and the progressive, liberal wing on the other (I'm stealing this from someone else on this site, but the Tsongas/Bradley/Dean wing of the party). Is this oversimplifying things?

  • I'm genuinely curious...why is Obama less exciting than Dukakis, Gore, or Kerry to you?

Posted at March 25, 2008 4:38 PM in response to Hillary Finance Committee Member Compares Wright And David Duke, Says Obama "Used Race Where It Suited Him"

  • Totally. I heard someone the other day say, "Obama should have left the church when he ran for office to limit potential political damage." My God, isn't that kind of calculating inauthenticity for political gain exactly what we are trying to get away from?

Posted at March 25, 2008 4:24 PM in response to Hillary: Wright "Would Not Have Been My Pastor"

  • You think he's been able to hide skeletons from what surely must be the fine-tooth comb with which the Clinton campaign has been subjecting his past?

Kindergarten papers, youthful drug use, a shady friend in real estate, and a pastor with a flair for incendiary statements...why bother with this stuff if there is worse to be found? I just don't buy it.

  • You are absolutely right on, in my opinion, regarding positivity AND David Plouffe--he needs a break.
