Senate Fuelishness
Senate Republicans should be embarrassed by the floor debate on energy this week. Their transparent pandering to oil and gas interests and hedge funds should outrage every American with genuine concern about our nation’s future. Senators acting as oil company...more »

George Will: Serious Person
In Newsweek, George Will proposes a series of 12 questions to Obama. Many (most) of the questions were inane attempts a gotchas, but there were a few of them I would like to discuss, mainly because I don't like their...more »

The Hundred-Year Presence
I'm sure glad John McCain explained his position to me on the 100-year presence in Iraq. He explained that it's going to be just like Japan, right? You have to give it some time. I mean, look how long it...more »

Did Rev Wright Fall On His Sword?
Looking back over the past few weeks, my take on the Obama-Wright situation is a little different from what I am generally hearing. After Obama gave his speech on race relations, that should have been enough to put it to...more »

The Philly Debates: Chewed, Swallowed, Yuk, Reswallowed, Digested, and .....
The vitriol from us on the non-right and the media critics at large over the Phreakshow in Philly has been very properly directed at Stephanopoulos and Gibson. These pages have been full of rhetoric from my fellow TPMers expressing that...more »

Dear Senator Roberts: I am deeply concerned by the outrageous assertions made by Director of National Intelligence J M McConnell during a March 28,2008 speech at Furman University. In his comments, Director McConnell attempted to disparage the Senate and...more »

And the last eight years?
I don't care who beats John McCain in November. The important thing is that he is beaten - hopefully in a landslide, but that doesn't matter either. That said, I have read nothing in these pages discussing what either Obama...more »

I quit entirely in 2004 after the "election" but my wife remains hooked on local news and HGTV. Occasionally will look in on Jon Stewart or Colbert, but even there all the flashing imagery is disturbing because it sucks you in to like a hypnotic state where you get pretty mindless.
All of that flickering in the visual fields is also said to increase cortisol secretion. That could be true based on my anecdotal experience. I dropped 20+ pounds when I quit watching TV, even though I didn't increase my activity level at all. In addition, my wife says that my bullfrog-volume snoring has all but disappeared.

No - her father is John J Gillian who served as Ohio Gov in the early 70's. Use the Google friend, it will put you in touch with real info and save you the embarrassment of rather foolish speculations. I think you will find Gov Strickland is about 67 and Sebeilus just celebrated her 60th birthday on May 15.

Get real. Faux news gets 2-3 million viewers max, and maybe a half million in the 25-54 demographic. There are 300 million of us here. The don't even reach 1 percent of the population. Even the worst performing major network news kicks fox's ass with 5-6 million viewers.

I recall an earlier debate back when Edwards was still in, where the moderators went into their reflexive idiocy and the candidates didn't buy in - they redirected the conversation into more substantive areas and made the moderators look a little silly and petty in the process. It might have been Russert - don't recall for sure.
Anyway, one or both of them should have grabbed CG and GS by their rhetorical collars and shook them. These are supposed to be leaders. If Fosberry wants to hand out a B- for this kind of mediocrity, students will flock to that classroom.
In my view, a C- is a gift for both of them. But these aren't students, are they? Would you have your surgeon operate on you with a proficiency for managing the moment to moment situation similar to the quality of what we observed from our candidates? I'd be damned scared!Posted at April 20, 2008 1:24 PM in response to The Philly Debates: Chewed, Swallowed, Yuk, Reswallowed, Digested, and .....
