Ah, irony. Here's a tip. It's ironic if you respond to a post by saying you will not respond; it's pathetic if you respond again & again & again to a post that you say you won't respond to. Five responses and counting. Shooting for double digits?

So that's your policy going forward, I guess. Seems you've just responded.

Alas, the updates aren't what garner headlines.

If there's any slippage between the position he's consistently held and what he saying now, it appears in his comment that "My guiding approach continues to be that we've got to make sure that our troops are safe and that Iraq is stable." I don't recall him being explicit about his concern that Iraq achieve, or maintain, some degree of stability -- beyond his points about protecting the embassy in being able to strike against AQI. Maybe this is nothing, but that's what got my attention in the Times piece. It'll be interesting to see if this develops further.

I think I recall reading some place that she was opposed to the bill, but I don't have a link. If that's accurate, I guess the question has to do with the optics of her opposition & Obama's support (presuming he continues to support it). It would be an opportunity for her to give him a dig -- deserved IMO -- but it would definitely complicate the choreography of the last week or so. Stay tuned, I guess.

Damn, you're making me thirsty with that picture. While I realize it's 5:00 somewhere in the world, I've still got a few hours to go. Clearly, I need to avoid the threads where you're showing up.

Is the fact that this is only the second Clinton staffer to join the Obam team an indication of any reluctance on their part, on Obama's part, or not much of a reflection of anything at this stage of the game?

... just to clarify, Greg, I recognize your efforts to do this with stories like the RNC's $50 million advantage, but these things (Obama's seeming ability to print money & the deep pockets of the RNC) seem to be treated as separate issues in stories thus far. When comparing candidates' finances, it'll be useful to make a more explicit acknowledgment of what the RNC will add McCain's war chest.

I think the more reasonable analysis, moving forward, will have to account for money that the parties have to devote to the elections. 527's are, to a large degree, wildcards, and difficult to account for, but I think it's misleading to keep talking about Obama's ginormous cash advantage without considering disparities between the RNC & DNC.

Lipstick, meet pig.
Look, I understand what you're saying -- or, rather, what Dean is saying -- but it still doesn't answer two fundamental questions:
-- why wouldn't Obama use the very real muscle he has to carve out the immunity provision first? Even it if it passes over his opposition, he's standing on the right side of the issue, and he can continue tying McCain to Bush -- in this case over the shredding of the Fourth Amendment.
-- why did he wait so late to make his position known? The issue has been front & center for a while now, even if Congress rushed the vote. Why did we have to wait until this afternoon to know where he stood? And why did a spokesperson have to wait -- or, assuming he knew, why did he string us along?
