  • I agree with Tena that adoption is not a happy alternative, at least for the one giving up the baby, but my God it has to be happier than essentially murdering a viable fetus, which as I understand it is what a late-term abortion is. And I have always been pro-choice; but isn't everyone basically opposed to late-term abortions unless absolutely necessary? I mean medically necessary. Cases of emotional and mental distress, as well as rape or incest would presumably be diagnosed far sooner in the pregnancy and not necessitate a late-term abortion, which would cause mental and emotional distress in and of itself!

I don't see how this is pandering to the religious right, nor how it could be construed as misogynistic; it just seems like the only sensible position to take.

  • I agree, blaming her loss on sexism is just another way of shifting the responsibility.

  • Okay, it was good as far as it went, but now it's all about her again and running as a woman. Also, maybe I'm being paranoid here, but wasn't there subtle body language and facial expression, dead-pan when endorsing Obama and then she lit up when talking about her own campaign??

And I agree, nothing about beating McCain, or very little.

  • I hope I'm wrong but I fully expect more Hillary drama. First of all, here we all are, waiting for her with bated breath. Next I expect her to thank all her supporters and list all her accomplishments, including winning the popular vote. In other words, I expect another campaign speech from the alternate Clinton universe. But I repeat, I do hope I'm wrong and that it's all about endorsing Obama and calling on all her people to support him.

  • If you get a chance to hear him speak in person you may have that "falling in love" experience, or maybe not, but it's still very exciting. And a big fat raspberry to the person who responded to your post by asking you if you are a racist!!!

I myself have not read The Audacity of Hope but thanks to all the testimonials here now have it bookmarked as father's day gifts for my dad and husband, thanks!

  • I won't really relax until the VP is chosen, but after that I have to admit I've been wondering what I'm going to do with my time now that I won't be obsessively reading political websites all day long. Somehow I don't thing the general election is going to engage my passions in the same way...

I guess I'll have to go back to Facebook Scrabulous.

  • I'm delighted with being called young but at age 55 I'm sure I'm old enough to be your mother. And my mother and I have been marching for civil rights all our lives. We were both sobbing with incredulous joy last night.
