This sort of half-assed rumor mongering is garbage. Quite aside from the impropriety of spreading this sort of hearsay, it will not hurt Palin but help her. Without a hell of a lot more evidence than is being shown here, she will look like the injured party when the dust settles on this and will deliberately conflate all of the legit criticisms of her with this baseless smear. Please cut this nonsense out unless you are deliberately trying to get McCain elected.

I am not sure of the logic of this attack. Setting aside the nuance in Obama's statement, if they spin it that he admits the surge was a good idea, I can't see it hurting him much with anyone who has not already decided to vote against him. Doesn't seem like such a negative attribution to me even distorted as it is.
On another topic, I am a little surprised that Gallup hasn't moved much at all.

Thing is, I think McCain is really trapped here. Dropping her might be worse than keeping her under most circumstances.
1. I don't think a lot of other people on the short list, other than maybe Lieberman, are going to be too interested on hopping aboard this sinking ship.
2. Dropping her would seriously piss off his most rightward base. he simply cannot win without them.
3. He would be conceding, in the most dramatic possible manner, that his judgment, his only strong suit in terms of public perception, is very, very weak.
Unless something very seriously damaging comes out, I think he is stuck with her. He will merely have to downplay her role and try to make the best of it by trying to turn negative attention back unto Obama somehow. It would require some desperate moves but what real choice will he have.

Carville can be a real ass. But, especially when he is on your side, you really have to appreciate his ability to cut through all the lame bs rhetoric and focus the debate. It doesn't seem like it ought to be so unusual, but it really is a rare ability.

That is certainly what she did. The point is more that it contradicts the image that the campaign is trying to create of maverick reformer.

Sorry. I meant to add to your joke there but I hit submit accidentally. I realize you were kidding.

Yes. It would be absolutely wrong to assume such a thing. There is not even the smallest shred of evidence for it.

I have read all about this case and it seems pretty clear that, whatever went on in her sister's divorce, Palin 1. abused her power, 2. lied about it. What have you read that suggests that either of those things is untrue?

Hiring a lawyer is one of those things that people tend to think of badly when in fact it just makes good sense. She would be stupid not to hire a lawyer for any kind of a serious deposition but the optics are terrible, especially at the high point of a political campaign.

That poll projects McCain getting 14% of the black vote. That is not even close to being possible.
