Hillary Clinton now needs a larger percentage of remaining superdelegates than she did before Pennsylvania.
One month ago, Hillary Clinton needed 70% of the remaining superdelegates. Since a fairly large primary just occurred, I figured I'd see what she needs now.According to CBS, the current pledged delegate counts are the following:Obama, pledged: 1486Clinton, pledged:...more »

Are the votes of superdelegates public?
Obviously, lots of them have publicly indicated that they intend to support a certain candidate. And lots more surely will. But when it comes time for them to actually place their vote, is it necessarily public?...more »

How many superdelegates each candidate needs.
There's been a lot of talk recently along the lines of "Clinton needs 64% of the remaining delegates". Well, she's almost certainly not going to get 64% of the remaining pledged delegates, so this got me wondering: how many more...more »

Two bugs in the new TPM

The best way to deal with Lieberman after the election is to give him a cabinet post - DHS would be a good choice. Get him out of the Senate and replace him with a real Democrat.
No, the best way is to give him a cabinet post, to get him out of the Senate and replace him with a real Democrat, and then fire his sorry ass from that cabinet post.Posted at May 12, 2008 3:53 PM in response to Harry Reid: We're Watching Lieberman's Conduct In Prez Race "Very Closely"

You're right. I forgot about lone Senatorial powers. Thanks.

I say fuck him. Now.
The Senate doesn't get anything done anyway, due to the veto, the obstruction of the Republicans, and the inability of the Democrats to stand up to the obstruction of the Republicans by actually forcing them to really filibuster instead of just immediately giving in (or, in the one farcical case of a real filibuster, giving in after twelve hours or whatever).
So the only real purpose that the Senate is serving, at this point, is to prevent the Republicans from doing their crap.
Which the House can do by itself.
So fuck Joe. Kick him out, now.

The states have no legal authority over their congressmen. Those are federal offices, not state offices.

he is now 155 delegates away from clinching the nomination.
And there are 217 pledged delegates remaining, of which both Clinton and Obama will get approximately half, give or take.Which means he needs less than fifty more superdelegates, of the 250 or so that remain undeclared.

Lieutenant Worf,
While I also support Barack Obama, and am happy that you do too, I feel obligated to remind you that you took an oath, as a Star Fleet Officer, to uphold the Prime Directive. You should not be interfering with the internal affairs of another civilization.

Even if he wanted to Obama can't put Hillary on the ticket. She took that possibility away with her Commander in Chief Threshold BS. Obama can't put someone on the ticket who has said publicly not only that he does not pass the test to be Commander in Chief but that his opponent does.
To be fair, she later... uh... "clarified" by saying that it was entirely conceivable that Obama would be able to cross "the Commander in Chief threshold" in the following month or two.Of course, that's fundamentally absurd; possibly even more absurd than the notion that there actually is some "threshold" that he has not crossed. But nonetheless, that's what she said.

This brings up an issue that I have wondered about for a long time:
Every time that I've voted in a Presidential election, I was given a choice for "President and Vice President". I think that I instead should be given a choice for "President" and a choice for "Vice President".
Of course, in the past, this concern was entirely theoretical.
In the past.

The Senate was really only a stepping stone to the White House for her. Now that that dream is gone, maybe she'll just pack up and move back to Arkansas. Or Chicago. Or Scranton. Or wherever she's actually from.
Scranton was so April. For the next week, she is a proud native born West Virginian.Posted at May 7, 2008 10:06 AM in response to Hillary Holding A Public Event Today, After All
