  • Oh, I get it. The ALL CAPS somehow makes you either astute or funny. If you're a Democrat either get in line behind the nominee, like the Republicans always do, or get out of the party. Otherwise, you've proven yourself just to be the little troll we've always suspected. The same to getalife.

  • Many of you are missing the point, which David Brooks has made. The issue is not the flag per se, the question serves as a surrogate for "are you one of us?" If a Swede could be President and came over from Stockholm to run on a far left ticket that would guarantee to solve our health care and education problems, he still wouldn't win, because the Swede can't pass the he's one of us test. Obama being non-white, with the "funny name," and the "mysterious" international upbringing, already carries extra baggage before the Brooks test is even started - which I think is grounded in reason, even if shallow. Thus, Nash's question is one which matters to a certain type of voter who no matter how stupid we think they are still have a vote.

  • Why are old school Democrats like Ickes such p***ies? Yeah we get it, the GOP attack machine will be ferocious. It always is and it will be so if it's Obama or Hillary. Obama/Wright ads 24/7 or Hillary/Vince Foster; Hillary/Bosnia; Hillary/Travelgate. But taking the coming attacks as a given, my question is, "are Democrats ready to take the gloves off?" Can our nominee, or the surrogates, not play nice, not be policy wonks and fight with bare knuckles? What I'm hearing too much of is hand-wringing over which candidate will get beat up the least rather than who is willing to bring his or her gun to a fistfight. Every time Democrats walk in thinking they're going to get slapped in the face, they get punched in the gut.

  • Goatlife is obsessed with Obama's taking a few days off during a six week lull in the primary. I don't know why he thinks that talking point will resonate. A quick read of his other posts show he is nothing but a race-baiting troll waiting desperately for someone to engage him.

  • Goatlife,

Do you actually stay up at night testing your witticism, or is your improv writing just that sharp? Thanks for the oh-so ironic play on words, you must've learned that at the Captain's Quarters.

  • SO a candidate can't take a couple days off from an exhausting campaign and chill? I guess you really hated it when the Clintons vacationed in Hilton Head or San Diego during Bill's campaigns.

BTW, don't be such an f*ing tool. If there is one thing I can't stand is the racist who denies he is one. Come on . . . stand and shout ... "I think black people are lazy." Don't be shy.

  • I think it is a bit different than Lakoff, because the thought is already out there - Russert really didn't help Tuesday night. A close friend's mother and her friends, all older Jewish Democrats, are actually worried that Obama is really a Muslim based upon getting the false e-mail. What we hopefully learned from the swift boating of John Kerry is that enough people going to think of the elephant as soon as someone suggests that there is an elephant in the room.

  • Here is a link to article through the Google AP service: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jwzuhvpZ6wva0fP4gSqusiq4U_aQD8V3163O1

I suggest that the bottom portion of the article, which bullet-points the refutation of the fear-mongering rumors, be e-mailed to as many people as possible to act as a viral counterbalance to the Obama is a Muslim e-mails.
