  • Forget the primary. Help the DNC beat McCain.

The primary election is not over.  The outcome is not in as much doubt as the media might like us to think, but there's still plenty of fighting to be done, and if you're going out to canvass for either...more »

  • Don't let big donors strong-arm the DNC.

TPM reports that big Clinton donors are pressuring Howard Dean to seat delegates from the rule-breaking elections in Florida and Michigan:In an interview with Election Central, venture capitalist Alan Patricof, a member of Hillary's finance committee and one of the...more »

  • My friends, I promise you, I am fired up and ready to go.

Who in god's name convinced John McCain to organize last night's speech around the theme of "hope," and then end it this way?          "And my friends, I promise you, I am fired up and ready to go."  ...more »

  • Why hasn't this primary season sucked?

As a rule, primary season is a drag.  Interesting candidates get weeded out early, and by the time the big states roll around, we're left with a choice between the protest vote, the guys who's going to win, Dick Gephardt.But...more »

  • Wait a second . . . my snarkdar is tingling.

I would agree with both of y'all that it's not a huge deal.

  • Even regular people know that there's a time and a place. If they were on the campaign plane, and Barack said, "There are more seats in front, hon," that's not dismissive. "More seats in front, sweetie" . . . still not dismissive, though this time I'd hope that Michelle is on the same plane.

If she's asking a question, it's a professional context, and it's not the place for the same language.

  • Earth to fellow Obama supporters:

He has admitted it was a gaffe. So we can too. It was a gaffe.

Would it be different if it had been a young male reporter, and Hillary had called him "hon"? "Hold on a sec, hon."

Afraid so. That would be sorta-funny-dismissive instead of gratingly-dismissive. Sorry, but till sexism disappears, this sort of pat-on-the-back stuff is going to read differently depending on the gender of the speaker and the addressee.

  • I'm curious about "the obligation wing of the party." I feel that I'm missing an inside joke, and I *hate* missing inside jokes.

  • Good lord, those are terrible numbers. I see why Rove was so focused on attracting Hispanics. If the GOP doesn't broaden their appeal, they really are in danger of becoming the party of a single ethnic group. That's not a recipe for success in 21c America.

  • Seconded. And my family is from Appalachia. Sense of humor, people. This is not a campaign poster; it's not an outreach effort; it's political humor for an audience of people who have largely made up their minds. So take a giant chill pill.
