Gary Hart, Donna Rice and John McCain
Oh Man, whiplash sucks.John McCain has evidently never heard the admonition that we've all hear from our parents at one time or another: Be careful what you wish for.In 1984, amid rumors of an extramarital affair, Gary Hart issued a challenge to reporters...more »

Don't Get Fooled Again
Some time ago, there was a reader post on TPM that listed phrases from this campaign cycle we never wanted to hear again. I don’t know if it made the list, but for me, the one that rises above (sinks...more »

What I Learned on My Summer Suspension
I had the experience of being scolded and punished for bad behavior on TPM over the past couple of days. I was restricted from posting comments on reader posts for a time. It was (mostly) not fun, but it was...more »

Please excuse the petulant tantrum, but I have an issue with TPM, and I'd like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. It wasn't my proudest moment as a member of the community here, but I posted...more »

Will the press ever notice that McCain lies to them or does Tina Fey have to point it out?
The coverage of Barack Obama was incredibly positive before the SNL skit about the subject. As an Obama supporter, this is obvious even to me. After that weekend, everything did change, all of the talking heads were suddenly afraid of...more »

What the Hell, Barack?
Barack, we need to have a little talk. You've let McCain off completely on campaign finance and now the country thinks he's a principled reformer rather than a craven liar. You're on the verge of an October where people will...more »

Goddamn, Boyd, that is a fine post. These attacks from the right start to creep into my head, and your post is exactly what I need to remember 29 words.
I have no idea how to put a link in a comment, so this may or may not work, but these are the 29 words to which I am referring... http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/2008/06/29-words-the-reason-obama-won.php

Great points, I agree wholeheartedly, as long as the interview is aired LIVE. We've seen from CBS this week how creative editing can change the meaning of an interview. I don't trust fox news with editing equipment and footage of Barack Obama at all. This type of thing needs to be live or not at all.

Bear in mind that McCain has very little experience this cycle with one-on-one debates. He had the ability to sit back and let the others bash each other, then choose his moments so chime in. One-on-one debates have a lot more in common with set-peice speeches than with the townhall meetings McCain excells at.
