I think the DSCC played this one wrong. From what i can tell, Novick will be at least as good, if not better, as a General Election candidate.
If Novick does win the primary, I hope the DSCC doesn't cut bait simply because its preferred nominee didn't win. Of course, if Smith proves to have a big lead on Novick if he wins the nomination, the DSCC should do what it must.

One minor correction--I believe Olsen was an aide to former Sen. Phil Gramm (R-TX), not current Sen. Jon Cornyn (R-TX). This may indeed be the hardest 2006 pick-up for Dems to retain, but here's hoping Nick Lampson, an original victim of the DeLay Redistricting can do it.

If he could get Tim Roemer, the other Indianan on the 9/11 Commission, as well as some of the current Dem delegation, that would be excellent, although I'm sure Evan Bayh is lobbying them hard for Hillary.

On the other hand, I'm worried the GOP could steal the Indiana 7th in next week's Special Election, though I haven't seen any polling in that race.

I hear really good things from folks on the ground; I do believe we're going to win this one, which will be sweet not only because it's Hastert's seat but also because Oberweis is a hard-core right-winger in the mold of Tancredo.

I don't know if a dedicated "terror tax" is the answer, but the bottom line is, if our military adventures are truly worthwhile, we should pay for them now, not ask future generations to pay for it.
I do also think it is important that Americans be asked to sacrifice something more than the balance on their credit cards at the nation's shopping malls.
