I don't remember after which primary vote or caucus this happened but it was one that McCain won. I think it might have been SC. In his victory speech he gave his supporters some "straight talk." In that speech, which...more »

  • "Earnings for college faculty vary according to rank and type of institution, geographic area, and field. According to a 2006-07 survey by the American Association of University Professors, salaries for full-time faculty averaged $73,207. By rank, the average was $98,974 for professors, $69,911 for associate professors, $58,662 for assistant professors, $42,609 for instructors, and $48,289 for lecturers"

I assume by "professors" they mean tenured professors since they specify associate professors next. So if he means full-time, tenured professors he is wrong on the average but not ridiculously wrong. Going by this data, a little less than half of them make over 100k a year. Which is around what I would have guessed, I know plenty who do. This includes liberal/fine arts, etc. professors who make less than those in medicine, law, engineering, business, etc. Dang, I have got to get me some tenure up in this piece.

    Hooray science!

  • A lot of Obama supporters seem to oppose the idea but I think it would be pretty classy for Obama's campaign to retire HRC's debt sans her personal loans. On the point of retiring her debts we are in complete agreement.

Mississippi is more strange than I remember it.

  • As a scientist I am always outraged when politicians challenge our interpretation of scientific data. As if your law degree qualifies you to do proper statistical analysis and data gathering. Kiss my a**. If it weren't so tragic the fact that the Vice President is going after endangered whales would actually be pretty hilarious. What a sociopath.

  • I'd love to see him in jail but if she promised to do it, well, that seems like politicizing the DoJ again. Once we hold both houses of congress and the presidency we will have to be very careful not to become what we have found to be so despicable for the past 8 years.
