  • If we could take North Carolina away from the GOP it would cripple the party for half a decade. Losing such a big Southern state? Nixon and Goldwater would spin in their graves!

  • McCain's going to need to grow some thicker skin. He's whining like a bitch.

  • And the delightful thing about this is that nothing Obama actually said is conclusively a knock against McCain's age.

"Losing his bearings," could refer to McCain's normally ethical behavior (LMAO!!) diminishing into the smear tactic he's employed here. He has, in that sense, lost his way. It's actually a compliment to McCain, although a backhanded one.

It's Salter who thinks Obama's talking about McCain's age. He's the one injecting thoughts about McCain's age into this- as Burton points out.

  • Bill Burton's response to this is priceless.

“Clearly losing one’s bearings has no relation to age, given this bizarre rant that Mark Salter just sent out. It’s clear why a candidate offering a third term of George Bush’s disastrous economic policies and failed strategy in Iraq would want to distract and attack, but it’s not the kind of campaign John McCain has promised the American people that he would run,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

  • It would be much more helpful if they would stop talking about Wright.

And Matthews liking Obama does nothing to change the fact that he's an idiot manchild who only sensationalizes the conventional wisdom and then broadcasts it at extreme volume. If he left cable news and never returned it would be a joyous occasion.

Likewise, Tim Russert can die in a fire.

  • And this presents all of Limbaugh's lemmings in the district with a dilemma.

If they changed their party registration to Independent or Democrat to vote in the Democratic Primary, they'll be ineligible to vote in the Republican Primary. That will leave the already-low turnout on the Republican side even lower.

Now, does this help Jones, as the incumbent? Or does it help McLaughlin, by making the remaining voters in the Republican Primary more conservative?

I can't say, personally. But at least one of them must have urged Republicans not to change their party identification. Limbaugh could be damaging his own party in downticket races, which is really typical of the shortsighted narcissism that defines the current GOP.
