Christ. A Sanskrit singing 'naut. Where's Yanni. Good fight? But the message there just might be that the best soldiers of a "Good Fight" are the ones for whom all fights are good.

Pete lost his nerve, Old Guy. And he couldn't come clean. Listen to the old songs, listen to the lyricism in the rage, and the clean pure voice, listen to the words back then. That's some serious shit, Old Guy. "Which Side Are You On, Boys, Which Side Are You On." He's singing about cleaning up a river. Does he remember how many rivers those Soviet bastards made dirty with blood and the chemical waste of their 5-years plans? Tell Pete to take sail up the Volga. And clean that mess up.

You know, you can be such a pompoid when you want to keep the old history so tidy. History ain't tidy, Old Guy. You came here to learn, or at least that's what you say. Haven't you realized that Billy was right about the "nauts" -- and that was the reason you liked him? I've been trying to tell you this all these years, and you still don't get it. The 'nauts here have always been around.
Pete as a 'naut. As square as they come. Never would have put down the banjo for the gun. And he ended up singing the Sloop John Bee. All those Stalinist clones were dupes.

One thing I realized calling for the chimp is this: The old days are really gone. Began when Billy let his face go all reality-like. And also when the 'nauts started tracking people. I didn't realize that the combination of these events would have so many pic-people not sure of who they wanted to talk with or worse, who they were "allowed" to talk with. In such a bin of mush, many of the pic-people are hard to respect. I've realized that there are some very good people here, CaliforniaPaige for example, who joins Hilary. And quinine, you may have to step up. I don't think the Chimp is ever coming back full-bloodied without Billy. And Billy has boxed himself into a corner he can't come out of. Anger is one of the best motivators of creativity, but it has to be directed against worthy pics or causes. Those two are have gone too James Dean on that, no cause. You two are the future I say.

And since Pete wrote "This banjo kills fascists, blue guy on his own account thinks that was on Woody' s guitar. Blue Guy is less respectful on political figures than donnerpass. So I say that the reason Bob Dylan could never play the guitar well was that he listened to Woody's rag -ass playing. And that the reason Phil Ochs killed himself was that he could never be Dylan- politics was secondary to his ego. Pete was the best of them in the old days, though he could be quite square in his attitudes. Too much Save the Hudson crap. Hard to believe that he got on the same stage with Burl Ives. Let a lot folks down on that. Guess he was looking for 'nauts not revolutionaries. Ask donnerpass though. I just repeat what I pick up from his lectures.

Al. My pal donner takes the political questions. Whether he'll go Left with you is not something I can say. I know Woody wrote a message to him on the program of his tribute concert at Carnegie Hall which I've seen, so he met Woody. And that he knew at least two of the Spanish Vets. He'll guess that it was CIO. He hates Phil Ochs by the way. He knew the Weavers also. Sometimes he talks about his times in the civil rights movement. Apparently he's writing a book on all this political stuff. If I see him, I'll tell him you have the quiz book.

Hey Al. I actually do send a small check to the Southern Poverty Law Center every year. They have been big-time heros for a long time. Not enough people know about their work. And I'm with you on the "kill- them- before -they- kill- us" also. Put a fucking bullet in their heads before they hurt another innocent. Price of being a fascist.

wish you'd been here for the grand days when Billy was all eyes and Des was id-slippin', and the Old Guy was spouting history at everyone.Posted at July 5, 2008 7:40 PM in response to Chimpo Come Home
