Poking about online I stumbled across an article from March in The American Conservative.  The title is “The Right Choice:  The Conservative Case for Barack Obama”.  It’s an interesting narrative about how the neocons are conning conservatives into believing...more »

  • McCain's New Slogan - Oops, Someone Already Owns It

  • Put That Race Card Down!

Early on in this Democratic primary it was noted that Hillary was trying to paint Barack Obama as “the Black candidate”.  Now all I am hearing is “can The Black Candidate get the White vote?”, so apparently she was...more »

  • The End Game

OK, here’s my prediction.  Hillary will continue to campaign through the end (hopefully not going negative) allowing all votes to be cast with a sense of genuine participation.  Meanwhile the supers will pile on for Obama at a bit faster...more »

When she said "massive retaliation" I wondered what that meant.  I didn't jump to the conclusion of massive nuclear retaliation - after all we have a lot of fire power.  But today Keith Olberman pressed her on those debate comments...more »

  • The mood and perspective of an organization trickles down from the top. I see much divisiveness in these Clinton supporters who intend to not vote or support McCain with the hopes of subverting our Democratic candidate. It has flowed down and permeated their political views.

BTW if Hillary and her supporters allow the Repubs to win out of spitefullness she will take a huge hit politically and not have a chance in future elections of the Democratic party.

  • "I will be voting in November. ......[Obama]is deeply offensive on a moral level: he and Clinton are both politicians and corrupt"

With a view like that and complete acceptance of it you lower the standards of what we can and should demand from our government. We must demand more. To do that we need to have our voices heard and have our message be clear. Obama's plan to allow less influence from well monied lobbyists and to allow us to view the money flow with such groups will give us a greater voice.

  • Spin is always present in politics, it's in us before the information even reaches us. We wait to hear that which will corroborate our expectations, our o-spin-ions. We then discuss our own particular take (spin) on the facts at hand and in our discussions might change the force or direction of someone else's spin. In that sense all of it bears the manipulation of a supporter or candidate.

By Nietzsche's assessment were all power hungry. Those who can't accept their power position in the conversation then resort to the name calling and profanity. It's a sign of that power slipping away.

BTW who's the blogosphere's biggest bogeyman?

  • Interesting video, especially the part about WTC building 7, I hadn't heard it before.

There is a film series produced by the BBC called The Power of Nightmares: The Rise of the Politics of Fear which compares the rise of the American Neo-Conservative movement and the radical Islamist movement. It was aired at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005. I've only looked at the intro so far on youtube, it looks intriguing. There are three one hour films in the series. You can find them here:

I think I'll watch them this weekend, thanks for the nudge.
