A Night At The Congressional Races

Here's tonight's run-down of the Congressional races:

New Dem Ad Dramatizes FBI Monitoring Ted Stevens
Check out this stunning new ad from the DSCC, depicting fictional FBI agents monitoring indicted Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) and listing his alleged crimes:

"And I voted for him," says a disappointed fictional agent.

Poll: Stevens Regains Narrow Lead In Alaska
A new Rasmussen poll has indicted Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) taking a narrow 49%-48% lead over Democrat Mark Begich, helped in now small part by the presence of the state's favorite daughter Sarah Palin on the GOP ticket. But Uncle Ted is hardly out of the woods yet -- there's a chance he could be convicted of a felony before Election Day, which would probably impact his numbers in a negative fashion.

OH: Widespread Voting Problems Reported

From the Election Protection coalition's morning update email:

EP volunteers and the EP hotline received widespread [reports] of voting machine problems leading to delays, as well as problems with confusion implementing the state’s photo ID requirement. Additionally, one polling place opened late because of an overnight break in. A local TV station aired footage of Congresswoman Jean Schmidt’s battle with an optical scan voting machine, which repeatedly rejected her ballot.

OH-06: CQ Shifts Rating; Dem Wilson Now Favored

CQ Politics has just changed the rating of the race between Dem Charlie Wilson and GOPer Chuck Blasdel from "No Clear Favorite" to "Democrat Favored":

An early gaffe by the Democratic nominee in Ohio’s 6th District might paradoxically end up paving the way for his victory on Nov. 7: Analysts and strategists say Democratic state Sen. Charlie Wilson’s successful write-in campaign for the May 2 primary, the consequence of his embarrassing failure to qualify for the primary ballot, proved his political organizing skills.

A spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), which orchestrates the party’s national campaign for control of the House, told The Vindicator newspaper of Youngstown last year that the district was "the Republicans’ No. 1 targeted open seat in the country."

OH: Diebold Denies Voting Machine Problems

According to a report released by the Election Science Institute on Tuesday, Ohio-based Diebold's touch-screen voting machines are still flawed. In a study of Cuyahoga County's gubernatorial primary results, the electronic and paper records of vote totals in Cuyahoga County did not match more than 75 percent of the time. The ESI also found that 10 percent of paper records were "destroyed, blank, illegible, missing, taped together or otherwise compromised."

Diebold is having none of it. "The initial review and conclusions reached by ESI . . . simply are wrong," the company said in a press release yesterday. They blame poll-workers, and GOP gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell agrees. Glad that's settled.
