Senate Shows Obama the Money
The Senate just voted down a resolution that would have prevented Barack Obama from tapping the remaining $350 billion of the financial bailout. The final vote was 42-52, and there were vote-switchers galore since the chamber last agreed to give a boatload of cash to George Bush's Treasury Department.
Democratic Sens. Russ Feingold (WI), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Maria Cantwell (WA), Byron Dorgan (ND) and Ron Wyden (OR), in addition to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), stuck to the same anti-bailout stances they took in October.
Sens. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Mary Landrieu (LA), both of whom voted against giving Bush the first half of the financial rescue money, decided to give Obama the money this time. McCaskill had been particularly skeptical of Bailout Part Deux earlier this week.
Sens. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Evan Bayh (D-IN) switched from affirmative votes under Bush to disapproval of the bailout under Obama. Flexing their rebellious muscles as centrists, perhaps?
Among Republicans, Sen. Susan Collins voted against the new cash while Olympia Snowe sided with Obama -- a rare moment of difference for the Maine moderates. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), reversing his always-awkward campaign-trail support for the bailout, voted to disapprove it today. And Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH), on his way to retirement, bucked today's party line to okay the cash for Obama. (As Ben Smith notes, this is only the beginning of the campaign to bring Voinovich on board Obama's economic plan.)

Even though I actually agree with him, Evan Bayh can suck my dick.
He switched to show Obama who's boss.

I used to like the guy, but have grown to dislike AND distrust him over the past year.

Over the next two years, I predict that Dick Lugar will effectively become the Democratic senator from Indiana.

Congress never ceases to amaze me. Instead of requiring a vote to release the extra money, they made it so that they would have to vote to withhold the money - requiring the President to sign a bill telling him he can't have the money he requested. Hmm, you think he'd sign that?
It's just like all the stupid "stop the war" bills they tried to pass. Big deal, the president still had to sign it!
While we're at it, why don't we change the constitution so that the president has to approve his/her own impeachment?

I am so glad Obama did not go with Sen. Evan Bayh as his runningmate.

Obama knows that Bayh has a tough reelection fight in 2010 and he probably understands why he couldn't vote for it.

Or Bayh is just a snake, take your pick.
