Profile in Courage
As a Capitol Hill source just pointed out, Sen. Dianne Feinstein's quick turnaround on Leon Panetta caps a downright bizarre turn of events:
So let me get this straight:--Feinstein expresses strong reservations about Panetta (for a variety of reasons)
--Feinstein talks with Obama
--Feinstein slightly walks back on Panetta
--Feinstein talks with Panetta
--Feinstein supports PanettaThis is a profile in courage how exactly?
And we haven't even heard the complaints from Senate intelligence committee Republicans ... yet.

It's pretty simple. Feinstein had a losing hand and she folded. Shows good sense. Picking a fight she's sure to lose with an immensely popular PE would be stupid. Discretion is the better part of valor.

It's funny the discretion came after the valor. A case of failing to think before actually speaking?

But she didn't actually say much. She expressed a preference for someone with more inside credentials. That's about it. She never said she wouldn't support him. Most of this was blown way out of proportion. Not really much to see here...

It sounds like she just wants to be relevant, and she isn't.

That's the thing with most senators. Carter's biggest mistake was bringing in a bunch of outsiders who didn't know how not to step on their toes, and when they did how to make them feel special again.

It's a profile in Dianne Feinstein is a bloated jackass with a hugely and unjustifiably inflated ego. She and Rockefeller laid down and rolled over for Bush and Cheney and for that they deserve nothing good.

Well, it's good to know that Dem Senators are just as happy to cave in so easily to democrats as they are republicans. I guess...
