Jeb Bush Not Running For Senate In Florida
Jeb Bush has announced that he is not running for Senator from Florida, dealing a blow to the GOP's chances to hold on to their open seat here.
Jeb told the Associated Press that his brother's poor poll numbers were not a factor: "While I'm proud of my brother and I love my brother ... people know that I'm Jeb Bush and I don't think that would have been a problem."
Truth be told, Jeb is probably right on this one. While the Bush name is generally a loser at this point, the name "Jeb" is still popular in Florida. He would have been the best possible candidate the Republicans could have lined up.
That said, this is Florida, so expect a close race until undeniable evidence to the contrary pops up. And the state GOP still has a very deep bench to draw from, including possible candidates who were holding off until Jeb made his decision.

who would be a good democrat to fill that spot?

SFC, your Republican Party has a very great deal to be proud of indeed. Your people almost did a great job in Afghanistan and in non-relevant Iraq too, for example. Bravo! In both countries, victory may be possible in the next 15 or 20 years (assuming unlimited annual U.S. expenditures), and obviously that is something to greatly celebrate. You and your fellow voters must take all the credit for those magnificent developments. You must feel wonderful.
Is there any chance a headstrong individual such as yourself could call upon our current President to change his residence to Florida and run, since his brother is apparently too embarassed to put the family name on the line again? I know you wouldn't be.

Jeb knows the 2010 is too soon to try and run as a Bush. He'll probably wait and see what the political climate is for a run against the then 70yo Nelson in 2012.

Perhaps not in Florida, no.
Nationwide? It'd be a huge problem.

Likewise.
We even had Georgia-like weather for a couple of days.
OK. For about 24 hours, to be precise.

The whole Bush family should take a much deserved, and long over due, vacation. Someplace warm and sunny, like Gaza.

Oh, what a pity! No Jeb Bush! How will I ever go on?
There are over 300 million people in this country who are not named Bush. Can we please pass a "Make America Bush free in politics" law :)

Branded....as in the Bush Brand is now skewered possibly for a generation or more.
Built by Prescott Bush in the high finance house of Herbert Walker the Bush family dynasty dealt with European Fascists and survived where grandpa was elected to the Senate.
GHW Bush goes to Texas gets elected to a Congress seat, tries for the Senate and is somehow connected to the JFK assassination survives, becomes Ambassador to China and then CIA Head and then RNC Chairman....gets VP and is a bullet hole a way from President until he is elected in '88.
GW Bush gets to be a Texas Ranger owner and then Governor, gets to be the worst President in the US history and blows the entire brand....Jeb Bush the smart one is now branded his brother's ill fame.
Wait there is more. GW is indicted for War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity and must live in exile in Dubai,
And Jeb is still his brother.
