Inspector General's Report on Pentagon Pundits Expected Tomorrow
You remember the mind-blowing New York Times reporton the Pentagon's program of seeding compliant military pundits on TV to promote the Iraq war, right? The Defense Department inspector general's office was required by law to release its investigation on the matter on Monday, but it's been a bit late.
Thankfully, Rep. Paul Hodes (D-NH) was on the case with a classic strongly worded letter. So now the report is expected to drop tomorrow.

Probably right about 5:30pm.

let me hazard a guess, clear criminal conduct but the DoJ is "declining to prosecute"

Now, what would make you think that?
Maybe they'll subpoena them and wriggle around as they ignore the subpoenas!

I'm starting to like your sense of humor, Elana.
Democrats are masters at sending strongly worded letters. What would be interesting to learn is whether those strong words have any impact whatsoever.

Hodes is my Rep. I'm no big fan of him (despite being a devoted Progressive I actually liked his Republican predecessor Charlie Bass quite a bit). It'd be nice if was a little more aggressive here than a friggin letter, but general half-assery is what I've come to expect from him. That said, I'm kinda proud that my rep seems to be the only one doing anything... such as it is

I guess a sternly worded letter is better than no letter at all, eh?

Well now lets be careful here. Was this a _sternly_ worded letter or a _strongly_ worded letter?

first the farewell speech, then the release of the report. How many news dumps has this administration taken advantage of on late Friday afternoon?

ex General Barry McCaffrey was particularly devious with his conflicts of interest during the time he worked as a network consultant and lobbyist. In one instance, he went on television and claimed the troops needed a certain vehicle, then sent a 15 page packet General Petraeus in Iraq and pushed the vehicle there too, never telling anyone he was on the payroll of the company that supplied the vehicle.

I wonder how McCaffrey will fare in this IG report.

President Eisenhower warned against the military industrial complex back in the fifties-now its the military-industrial -mass media complex-General Electric own MSNBC -GE also makes military products . This seems to be getting down right Orwellian how each segment of the "war machine" INTERLOCKS & supports the other parts.
General McCafferty should be ashamed of himself - at the very least - Why with the amount of blood and treasure we have wasted in Iraq we could have had a PRT team (with full security )in every village in Afganistan.Paktia is where the real "Long War" needs to be won -There never were any of 'the Base" in al Anbar until after we occuppied Iraq.
This conflict of interest amongst our retired military leadership is at the very least an usurping of the 'unspoken" military code of conduct , at worst a possible violation of our written law - We the American people demand accountabilty - perhaps Obama 44 will actually restore honor and dignity to our National Leadership . Meanwhile ,McCafferty and all the rest of the retired general officers peddling the Iraqi Prevarication should be completely ashamed of their despicable conduct - The troops downrange out there in harms way deserve better leadership and better support then these compromised retired officers - these compromised retired officers are in effect war profiteers .Way to Support the Troops Barry !!
