Burris Sworn In As The Junior Senator From Illinois
U.S. Senator Roland Burris (D-IL) has now been sworn into office.
Burris went to the well of the Senate accompanied by his co-Senator Dick Durbin, and was sworn in by Vice President Cheney, as onlookers applauded.
Congratulations, Senator Burris.

He's probably got a stone mason chiseling "US Senator" on his mausoleum right now.

Yep, and he probably SMS'd the chiseler from the Senate floor the moment the gavel fell, to begin carving.

What do you think the chances are that he'll do the honorable thing and resign as soon as Blago is removed from office? Yeah, me neither.

As a citizen of Illinois, I can tell you that Burris might have an ego, but he isn't dirty, unlike so many others. He will be the seat holder from Illinois. That is it. He is honest, as far as we know. He has taken public service seriously. I believe he will take the honor and title of US Senator and retire after his time is up.

Glad this episode is over. It would be nice he retires at the end of the Obama term.

I say give him a respectful interval to enjoy his time in the Senate and make a contribution before others begin throwing their hats in the ring to challenge him in the primary.
Like, till Monday morning, but not later than that.
Wonder BTW if Blago will want to compete, assuming not blocked by conviction.
