Blago Has Been Impeached

The Illinois state House has voted to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Here are the vote numbers: 114 Yes, 1 No, 1 Present.

Blago's impeachment now proceeds to the state Senate for a trial, in the same process as the federal constitution uses. He is widely expected to be out of office as soon as early February, if not sooner.

Late Update: For those who would like to find out, the person who voted No was Chicago Democrat Milton Patterson, and the Present vote -- which is essentially the same as a No vote -- was Chicago Dem Elga Jefferies.

114 to 1. Wonder who the lone dissent vote came from....

user-pic

And one Present, which is the same thing. It won't take long before their names are known.

user-pic

True. And then people will start to wonder why.

user-pic

Patterson and Jefferies, both Chicago southside Reps. One has to wonder...

user-pic

...I bet they're "on tape"...

user-pic

And I'll bet you're right. . .

user-pic

Woot!

user-pic

Gee, what a shock! I would never have seen this one coming in a million years.

With Blagojevich headed downhill, Roland Burris may soon follow. Here's an interesting article on both men.

FROM THE ARTICLE: "ALL AROUND THE 'BURRIS-Wheel'"
http://okwassup.blogspot.com

After being caught red-handed by the feds in a "pay-to-play" scheme to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was hell bent to prove a point and get his own choice seated on the senate floor. Most savvy politicians in Illinois realized once the governor was wiretapped and caught by the feds, he and everyone around him would be tainted and under investigation. So most savvy politicians in Illinois did the smart thing and ran as fast and far away from Blagojevich as possible. But not Roland Burris. A former Illinois Attorney General, Burris was always seen as a kind and intelligent political servant. But half hidden beneath the surface was an ego the size of the entire state of Illinois.
`
To put it bluntly, Roland Burris is his own biggest fan and a political opportunist. Here is a man who built his own humongous granite mausoleum at a local Chicago cemetery to hold his remains at the time of his death. Oh, did I mention the mausoleum is a virtual granite resume, since Mr. Burris has etched in great detail his every job title, accomplishment, award, and entire life as a permanent monument to...himself?

For those that don't know, this entire exercise is just a way for Burris to engrave "U.S. Senator" on that mausoleum.

Okay, Roland, you can engrave the mausoleum. Can we have the job back now?

user-pic

lol. Why didn't he build himself a pyramid?

user-pic
user-pic

OMG.

There's some sort of pathology at work here.

user-pic

Wow. I'm almost speechless. That's almost bigger than a pyramid! It is also easy to see on it in big words: "Trail Blazer."

user-pic

Is that a mandate for Burris?

user-pic

Blago: "Thank you all for coming. I knew it would only be a matter of time before I was to be vindicated. As you have heard the Illinois State House has voted 114 to 1 in support of ME! This is overwhelming --"

Aid: "psswswsss"

Blago: "What??!?"

Aid: "Pssswssws!"

Blago: "Dammit! Nevermind..."

user-pic

LOL!

user-pic

Even if Blago's booted out of office, how can the Burris appointment be rescinded retroactively?

user-pic

If Blago is impeached before Burris is certified, then Quinn can rescind the appointment and make his own. Not saying that's going to happen, but it's possible. It's just as likely Quinn will re-affirm Burris' appointment to avoid a messy fight.

user-pic

Ah, now that IS interesting!

user-pic

I should have said impeached and removed from office. As we've seen, there's a big difference. Not that I doubt it will happen, but the IL-Senate trial will take enough time that Burris will likely be certified and seated by then.

user-pic

Glad you caught that, impeached and removed. And I agree the timing doesn't work out to block Burris. Somebody wrote that Obama wants this settled by the time of the inaugauration, which is a week from Monday. Chicago press says an Illinois Senate trial will take three weeks, but they only have one before the inauguration.

Think Blago will resign?

Me neither. So if it's true that Obama is hoping for this timetable (which is like him and I don't see Reid standing in the way), if Burris gets certified this coming week, he should be a Senator before the inauguration. (If he gets certified after the inauguration, the timing may become less pressing.)

user-pic

I thought at first that Blago would resign rather than be removed from office. After the big "F.U." that was Burris' appointment, it seems pretty clear he will not.

user-pic

Oh, my record is worse on that! I *predicted* on here he'd resign weeks ago (before I got myself schooled by an actual Chicagoan closer to the picture)! You and I have both now been educated!

user-pic

I remember that comment you made. I believe I stated at the time that Blago wouldn't resign. :-) The man - much like his Senate appointee - is completely without shame.

In an earlier comment today, I also mentioned that Obama appears to want this matter put to bed before 1/20. No distractions, and maximum Dem firepower in the Senate, as he goes about getting legislation through.

user-pic

I don't see how going to bat for Burris achieves the goal of no distractions. I'm going to go out and make a prediction that when all the tapes come out Burris is on them and that the GOP makes a big deal of his associations with Obama (and Obama's forcing him into the seat).

I sure wish Obama wasn't caught up with all these crooks.

user-pic

"I remember that comment you made. I believe I stated at the time that Blago wouldn't resign. :-)" I just think how lucky I am to have you on here schoolin' me, Boyd Reed! Right you were! :)

user-pic

Can you say, "lynch mob?" The representatives who voted "no" and "present" did the right thing.

user-pic

they should feed him to the Israeli Defense Forces
