GOP Senator Vitter, Of D.C. Madam Fame, Will Run For Reelection!
Louisiana GOP Senator David Vitter would have seemed like a prime candidate for retirement this cycle. After all, he went through a particularly nasty scandal last Summer when it was revealed that he was on the D.C. Madam's client list, a prostitute came forward and said he'd been a client of hers back in Louisiana, and he confessed to a "very serious sin."
But not so -- local Louisiana station KTBS reports that Vitter has decided to run again! And considering the generally Republican nature of Louisiana's voters these days, he probably starts out at the very least as the slight favorite to win, too.
Vitter will be launching his re-election campaign with a fundraiser next week, flanked by other big-name Louisiana pols like Gov. Bobby Jindal and members of the House delegation.
Somewhere in America right now, Eliot Spitzer is kicking himself.

Don't worry about Spitzer. He has a new column at Slate.
Also,
THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS!! FOR THE GOP!!!

It's not too late for Elliott.
Maybe he can run for office in Louisiana, too. ;)

He'd have to change his affiliation to Republican....then, and only then, is every sexual indiscretion forgiven by all of the judgemental hypocrites on the right.

True dat and I don't believe that selling sex should be illegal - I really that's one of the most inexplicable victimless crimes there is.
However - given that it is illegal, I cannot forgive Elliott simply on the grounds of stupidity. I cannot forgive these guys who will not learn to quit letting their genitals make major decisions for them. And most especially someone who was an AG who prosecuted people for this! That I find totally unforgivable.

The sheer arrogance is what chaps me. Um, hello? He didn't think anyone would find out?
I appreciate that what I perceive as arrogance is probably just industrial strength denial, but still....

That's so funny.....see my reply to Yva down below. :)
I also agree with you about men screwing crap up because of their libido. It's the height of stupidity.

Well I sure hope Saxby Chambliss steps up to the plate and helps! They seem to have certain "issues" in common.

see the campaign ad of Chambliss and family, including the 9- or 10-year-old grandaughter on his knee - at the end of the commercial, Chambliss squeezes the crap out of her right chest several times
he just can't help himself! he's a republican!

Ahhh....gotcha.
Yeah, I've seen the ad. And yeah, it made me a little uncomfortable. He needs to fire whoever gave the thumbs up on that one.

Well, it's not like Republican Senators are exactly role models these days, what with convicted felon Ted Stevens almost getting re-elected.

awwww. He confessed to a "very serious sin" and no doubt believes his personal deity forgave him. In the mean time the DC madam killed herself
I hope he loses.

I'm gonna get my pointy tin foil hat out here and say
so you _really_ think she killed herself?

enrages me that she paid the ultimate price and he asked for his personal deity's forgiveness, his wife stood by him and they both acted as if they were the damn victims. Jeez.

Agree. That woman's life was ruined and here he is getting ready to run for re-election! What a country!

What irritated me is that she was prosecuted and convicted and most of her clients got off unmentioned. In DC, I'm sure Vitter was small fish on her client list. What of the others?

This is totally why I think prostitution should be legallized. Who gives a crap if two consenting adults agree to exchange money for something that would be entirely legal if it was free? It makes no sense.
Does anyone know why he wasn't prosecuted? It sure seems that more often than not it's the prostitute who's prosecuted while the John's go about their business....it's ridiculous.

Vitter will win, even though his legislative accomplishments are zilch. Louisiana's horde of right-wingers love sinners who repent. Even if they sin over and over again. Look at Jimmy Swaggart of Baton Rouge. He's still taking in truckloads of money. Every four or six years the GOP's congressional candidates in Louisiana rattle the rafters with threats of fire and brimstone if a Democrat is elected, and it always works.

Democrats ought to show up at all of Vitter's rallies and political functions wearing a big diaper - you may recall that Vitter liked to wear diapers during his, ahem, therapeutic lady sessions.
Just like someone in a giant chicken costume followed around Chicken George Bush (daddy warbucks Bush) to his rallies in 1992 versus Clinton, Vitter needs to have to face dozens of adults wearing diapers at his events.
Sweet, sweet karma wears a diaper.

I feel it is important for him to run again. He can run on the "Family Values" platform, and appoint Senator Larry Craig as campaign chairman.
Besides, comedians are going to have a dearth of material once Bush leaves.
