Biden On Upcoming Blago Report: "I Don't Think There's Anything To Exonerate"

During a brief Q and A with reporters at the economic briefing today, Joe Biden said in the strongest terms that the upcoming internal report from the Obama transition team, covering any contacts with Rod Blagojevich or his staff, will show that they have nothing to worry about:

Q: Sir, will the Blagojevich report exonerate the transition team?

A: I don't think there's anything to exonerate. There's-- ah --it's been clear that the President-elect has had no contact with Blagojevich and/or anyone on his team that he's asserted, and you'll soon find out in the release today that there has been no inappropriate contact by any member of the Obama staff or the transition team with Blagojevich, and I think the report you'll see will reflect that this afternoon.

The report is due out at 4:30 p.m. ET today.

Let me just channel the blabberheads on cable news and say, with respect to the report, "Of COURSE it's going to exonerate Obama. His team wrote it! What else would you expect! This doesn't answer a single question about the very questionable non-contact Obama didn't seem to have had."

And also.

I think you overestimate the impact having a helicopter rescue to cover today and the impending holiday will have on their charitable spirit. Why even Pat Buchanan got to recall his caddying days at Burning Tree Country Club this morning while helicopeters were called in to rescue people from a five foot wide water main torrent.

It's still early in the day, ricky. Plenty of time for all those people to recover from hypothermia, to have the discussions about hypothermia, and water breaks, and how water breaks conceivably could contribute to hypothermia, and then circle back to those people recovering from hypothermia, and speaking of wet clothes, should Obama have allowed that photographer to snap pictures of him shirtless in exotic, foreign Hawaii and is there a concern that he might be setting a bad example for children in the Northeast, or Maryland, for that matter, who might be suffering from hypothermia? And how old are the water mains in New York City, anyway?

Does Caroline Kennedy play a role in hypothermia?

Nancy Grace wants to know.

And if any of this makes sense, you're in trouble.

I was watching MSNBC and there were two guests on talking about this. The anchor woman, the black woman - I forget her name - asked since the report "exonerates" Rahm, is this over now? One of the guests said, "far from over!" - What the Hell? far from over? So the anchorwoman points out that the US Attorney said there was no wrongdoing and the Obama team found no wrongdoing, etc. I don't know what happened after that, I couldn't stand to watch anymore. The guest that said it was far from over was from the McClatchey Paper or whatever.

What's Ken Starr doing these days?

user-pic

Always the Culture Warrior, Starr's defending Prop. 8 in California.

user-pic

In CA, Ken Starr might be a handicap for the Prop-8 defenders.

Blabberhead: But they could have done this before if they wanted to be transparent.

Anchor: But right from the beginning, Obama said let us investigate this and we'll give you the info on all the contacts. When they finished the US Attorney asked them to hold off for a while.

Blabberhead: But they could have put Emanuel and Jarrett and Axelrod out there in front of the media and let us have at them if they wanted to be transparent . . . blah, blah, blah,

FreeRider: Yeah, like there's ever anything they could do to satisfy you!

Of COURSE this isn't over. Doesn't matter that Fitzgerald has exonerated the Obama team, that the Obama team has FINALLY COME CLEAN, or anything. He's a Democrat. Different rules. And who cares whether his report exonerates him? His own damn lawyer wrote it.

And why does he need a lawyer, anyway?

I think Biden realizes we're going to miss having someone to laugh at once Obama is sworn in. Sure, Bush will slip out of range for a few years until he's brought up on criminal charges, but until then let's just be thankful that we have a blunderful yet capable politician in Joseph Biden.

user-pic

This is going to be one big YAWN...

user-pic

That's for damn sure! The only ones quivering in anticipation are scandal-mongering 'journalists', scandal-mongering right wingers, and scandal-mongerers who are both right wingers and 'journalists'.

user-pic

Don't forget the blogs. Those yahoos over at No Quarter cannot get enough of this, and are quite certain that, when the new Obama administration topples quickly under the weight of this scandal, we will all finally understand that about which they had been trying to warn us all along.

user-pic

And in January they can join the idiots who put themselves into tizzy over how Rezko would be Obama's downfall and are now in support groups trying to find closure.

user-pic

The right wing noise machine has already started moving the goalposts.

user-pic

Thanks for that depressingly accurate analysis.

If this constant chattering about nothingness continues after the New Year, it might be a good place to try and deploy the energies of those three million people (of the e-mail list fame).

Let's send Senator Cornyn 3 million e-mails telling him to quit focusing on this bullshit and get back to work on the real issues that affect our lives.

user-pic

But is anyone really listening? Except for those in the media, the politicians, the political junkies who have already chosen sides before this happened, I don't think so.

user-pic

I hope you're right, but the right will be relentless. The argument will be that because the report doesn't show any inappropriate contact, there MUST have be some inappropriate contact. Maybe it won't work this time, but this is the way the right works, like termites patiently gnawing away at the foundations of democracy.

user-pic

Here is the NYT breathlessly anticipating the report just now.

user-pic

Trust me, it's not on the radar of anyone in the "real" world. The New York Post had Obama half-naked on its front cover - so they are bored with Blago already. It will die down a lot before Jan. 20th and then the focus will be on "what's Obama gonna do first?" or "what's Hillary up to now?" They'll find something else to latch on to.

user-pic

The people I talk too keep scratching their heads as to why the media is obsessing over Blago. They have all heard what Blago himself said in the information. Something about "All they are willing to give is their appreciation. Bleep them" conclusively indicates Obama wasn't playing ball. They have all heard the "bleeps"

user-pic

Don't the media have bigger fish to fry. For example, in 1929 Wall Street bankers and brokers jumped out of windows and today Rene-Thierry Magon de la Villehuchet, a founder of the hedge fund Access International Advisors, who lost 1.4 Billion in the Madoff mess slit his wrists. Frankly the Blago is a tiny story by comparison.

Wait till the first quarter, when the auto companies, financial institutions and other major advertisers cut back on their advertising. Layoffs and cutbacks for these blowhards are on the way.
