Virginia House GOPer Loses In Upset
Another House GOPer has been caught up in the national Democratic wave. CNN and NBC have projected that Rep. Thelma Drake (R-VA) has been defeated by Democratic challenger Glenn Nye, a businessman and former diplomat.
With 100% of precincts reporting, Nye has 52% of the vote to Drake's 48%. Drake was previously targeted by the Dems in 2006, but narrowly held on against her opponent that year. This time, she wasn't so lucky.
Meanwhile, Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA), best known for denouncing the election of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) as the first Muslim member of Congress, may have been defeated. His Dem opponent has even predicted victory in a very tight race, though news organizations have yet to call the race.

According to CNN
Perriello 157,851 50%
Goode(Incumbent)156,694 50%

Virginia looks real good in Blue. My wife and I really miss Arlington. Minneapolis is OK, but there ain't nothing like being in the beltway. Thanks for the vote tally. Franken's running hard past the finish line. Lead is down to 300 votes but the remaining votes are heavily weighted to Duluth and Mpls. Me thinks we're gonna win that one.

Shit! Coalman jumps back on top by 1,600. Minneapolis is at 95% reported in. We stand to gain 1-2 thousand votes from the last 5%. Duluth, by virtue of reporting last, may pull the election over the line for Franken.
Overall we're at 96% of precincts reporting.

I know all this MN stuff is OT, but this is the freshest thread. Apologies for breaking etiquette. I may be the only one posting here. I only have a few more hours to obsess over this election. Thanks for your indulgence.
We have a decent shot at equaling or surpassing our all-time high voter turnout of 83%. Gonna depend on how many of today's voters registered when they voted.

This Minnesota race is crazy. I'ts almost 4AM, I have to be at work in four hours, and I'm hitting refresh every 30 seconds to see if Franken can pull this out. Thought it was over ten minutes ago, but now Franken is up (as of 3:47AM) by by 2,500, 98% in.

We're up 3,250 votes as another big chunk of Mpls just landed in the hopper. There's three big counties left that could deliver a 3,000 vote swing to Mccccc. Duluth has been stuck at 82% for a while. Time to look again.
Obsessively yours (ITAOT?),

Hell yeah! Glad you are driving along on this wild ride, randrave. I ain't hittin' the sack until we're done counting. Cautiously optimistic. Uptown was a blast at 11:00 PM. Fireworks, hootin' and hollerin' and honkin' and stuff.
Time for another look.

2,200 vote lead. 98% precincts reporting. Duluth still stuck at 82%. Smells like an LBJ move. Hope we are the ones who stuffed buses with Canadians...

It's looking real good right now. 1,200 vote lead. 98% precincts reporting. Mpls has 3% of its precincts left to report. Duluth is still stuck at 82% reporting. (St. Louis County). Itasca and Cass counties cancel each other out. Let's give Coalman a 500 vote pickup between the two. Throw in 200 more with the other three counties. It comes down to the last few precincts in Mpls and that remaining 18% in Duluth.

MN Sec of State site has Coalman up by 6,000 votes with 98% precincts reporting. VOtes are 1,188,824 to 1182718
Our TPM site has Franken up by 1,400. That's Franken at 1,193,536 and Cmn at 1,192,103. TPM has been consistently higher in vote tally all night. So I'll take the TPM numbers.

Josh makes a good point on the homepage that the AP hasnt called GA because a whole bunch of early votes hasnt been counted. GA may flip both on the senate and pres level.

I am watching Morning Joe on MSNBC and Pat and Joe are not giving BO any credit at all. It must be very painful for them realizing that a black man did what they failed (Pat) and wanted (Joe) to achieve.

I'm a tad hazy this am,,,,, and I have four cords of split hardwood firewood to haul and stack today,,,,, but, is it not the case that both Stevens and Coleman face ethics, possible criminal, charges should they return to the Senate?? That would mean two more pickups for Dems in the short term,,, aye or nay??
