Terry McAuliffe Files For Virginia Governor In 2009

Terry Mac is back.

Terry McAuliffe, the former DNC chairman and (very) enthusiastic national chairman of Hillary Clinton's candidacy, has officially filed papers for a possible run for governor of Virginia in 2009, a move that has been expected for quite some time. McAuliffe will now embark on a tour of the state to make his final decision.

McAuliffe brings a background in business and political fundraising that could potentially make him a strong candidate, but on the other hand he's late into this game -- there are already two Dem candidates officially in the race who have spent a while building up their organizations.

On top of that, Terry might have some problems thanks to the colorful image that he cultivated during the Hillary campaign. Here's our greatest hits from that period:

I love my life- Bill O'Lielly's head is exploding even as I type:

MSNBC has voted for four more years of Keith Olbermann and the top-rated "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," it was announced today by Phil Griffin, President, MSNBC.

LMAO!

user-pic

If I remember my physics correctly wouldn't the vacuum cause it to implode rather than explode?

;-)

user-pic

LOL - good damn point!

user-pic

Yes, but the force of all that external matter collapsing on to all that internal anti-matter happens so quick, the eye never responds to the action. It only registers the instance of impact when the two opposing force meet and ejection of matter flying outward at nearly the speed-of-light. So it looks like an explosion to the normal person.

user-pic

But wouldn't the immense projection of energy (comprised solely of electrons and neutrinos since nothing positive could possibly come out of his head) overwhelm the senses (and sensors) and thus render the whole event moot?

user-pic

So he's either going to become a black hole or go supernova. Either way a pretty good event! :-)

user-pic

I vote for the Black Hole everything gets sucked into a vaccuumm never to be seen or heard from again. A superNova would eject his slimey matter all over the universe, then eviloution sets in and creates a new of universe populated with O'Riley's.

user-pic

In like a bang and out like a whimper?

user-pic

Implausible deniability with a smile.  Wonder how that'll play in Communist Country?

user-pic

Give it up, McAuliffe. Rahm Emmanuel as CoS puts the country way over its limit on DLC me-too-republicanism.

And do you really want a campaign overwhelmed by people taking a good, hard look into your fundraising for the Clintons?

user-pic

Hated Terry when he was against me and loved him as a surrogate. He should fair very well if he runs for Gov, he has the backing of alot of big names in the Dem party, including the former and future president.

user-pic

Where is the present governor of Virginia going?

user-pic

Term limits.

user-pic

D'oh = thanks.

I can't figure out our term limits in Texas - it seems to me that Rick Perry has been governor for 15 years at least.

Thank god our governors don't do shit - which ought to be a big warning to anyone who is ever thinking of voting for one of our governors again - if Bush wasn't a big enough warning - the only governor who does less is the governor of Alaska, from what I can tell.

user-pic

Texas guvs can be elected twice in a row max. Perry took over half of Bush's term late in 2000, and then won election himself in 2002 and 2006, so he can't run in 2010.

user-pic

I was half-kidding. I knew he took over from Bush and that's one reason it seems like he's been there half my life.

He's relatively quiet these days. I remember after '04 he was all over the place talking about how gays and lesbians weren't real Texans and I sent him the most blistering letter and got a reply that had a half-assed apology in it.

Seems like a century ago -

user-pic

Rick Goodhair probably considers himself presidential timber, or at least veep timber.

You know the GOP is sucking air when Perry is regarded as a rising star.

user-pic

Even Kay would be a monumental improvement over Perry in the governor's seat.

user-pic

O god yes!

If you get her away from Bush and Cornyn, she morphs into a moderate - she was pro-choice, pro-stem research, and not all that bad, at one time.

user-pic

Didn't the rightwing religious kooks try to keep her from going to the GOP convention as a delegate a few years back because she's pro-choice?

Her running for governor might split the Texas GOP because the assholier-than-thou crowd won't ever back her.

All good.

user-pic

And I wonder if this means McAuliffe is considering a run for the White House?

user-pic

NO WAY!!!!!!!He is not the type of democrat that wins in Virginia. HE IS TOO DIVISIVE. Obama won Va. and McAuliffe was for Hillary,Hillary could NEVER win in VA.

user-pic

The one good thing I'm hoping out of McAuliffe's run is that it helps convince downstate Virginians that Brian Moran really is a Virginian, by contrast. "No, look, that's what a carpetbagger looks like!" ;-)

user-pic

LOL!

And sounds like.

user-pic

This is not going to end well.

user-pic

I never thought of enthusiasm as a pathology until ok' Terry appeared on the scene.

user-pic

I'm not thrilled with this at all.

user-pic

Why do I feel like I want to take a shower at the mere mention of Terry?

user-pic

This just seems like precisely the kind of overreaching we shouldn't be doing.

user-pic

Excellent news. I hearts me some T-Mac! :) He was never attack dog or vicious int he campaign. You can't find a mean-spirited thing he said about Obama. He was one of the first high profile Clintonistas to get on board helping Obama in fundraising, vocal support in reaching out to Hill folks etc. He's loyal, but a team player. And I'd totally throw back some Crown Royale with him.

user-pic

True, but hes also batshit crazy

user-pic

I have to wait to see where he stands on the issues, but for now he starts out with VERY high negatives from this Virginian. Actually even if I like his positions it might not help him, because I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

user-pic

I can't think of anything worse for Virginia. A consummate political operative with no other agenda than making a name for himself after working hard to make it happen for the Clintons. Also, why now with the announcement - a PR stunt if I ever saw one, trying to get in on the coattails of the new administration. Why should anyone vote for him?

user-pic

Seconded and thirded. Also the comment above about needing a shower--or a full-scale decontamination--after every exposure. He just reeks slime, and dishonesty.

user-pic

Fourthed! McAuliffe would be a disaster for Virginia. Fortunately, he does not have a prayer to win outside of Northern VA! Creigh Deeds from Roanoke or Moran from NoVa have much better chances.

user-pic

Yikes! What a bad flashback that was. McAuliffe is so annoying he makes my hair hurt.

user-pic
user-pic

Gawd, he's an ass.

I'm so glad Obama won.

user-pic

Well, he's had plenty of time to hone his bullsh*ting skills
