Obama's Message At Final Rally: Vote! Vote! Vote!
With the campaign about to end in a few hours, let's pass the time with a look at Barack Obama's final rally last night in Manassas, Virginia, which had a crowd size estimated at over 85,000 people:
The message inherent in the anecdote Obama told here -- that he went to visit a single potential supporter in a remote rural area, at a time when he was way back in the polls, and now he's standing on Election Eve in front of over 85,000 people -- is that the campaign can't stop working for a single second.
The Obama campaign's message to supporters for the last day of the campaign was not so much about the issues as it was about the last-minute mechanics of the election -- turnout, turnout, turnout, and what every supporter can do to contribute to it.

REPOST-
Guys,
Apparently the Obama camp don't fully feel comfortable with their internals and we need to call.

May be just turnout to be a last minute effort to energize the GOTV operation.Whatever it is, we cannot take chances.Help if you can.
This is what I've been doing for last four days, just few more hours

make some calls, jonze, you'll feel better. almost everyone i've talked to (Indiana) has just gotten home from voting for Obama.

Also in Indiana, and majority so far voted for Obama. Actually in my area (east central IN) low turn out based on people I've talked to, so I think the Repubs figure Mitch Daniels has it won and aren't thrilled with McCain and are staying home.

Juyst finished making calls from home after dropping off our brownies at the comfort station at Ortiz Middle School in Santa Fe. It is "slow time" now at my polling place. My neighborhood is working/lower middle class subdivisions, mixed hispanic, anglo, black, and other. It will get busy again after 3 pm, when all the State employees get to leave to vote......
and the SETUP!!! Playpens for kids, someone doing free massage, coffee, water, brownies, donuts, AND a mariachi band. I love New Mexico.

Just got back from Nashua NH where I was helping to get canvassers out the door.
The place was slammed with volunteers - I lost count how many packets of literature and walk lists I handed out. I think the estimate for the entire operation was that 25,000 doors had been visited in the Nashua area. And they still have 4 hours to go. Amazing.
I couldn't believe the energy and the organization. So exciting.

Yesterday in Manassas they were actually turning away canvassers! There was simply no more canvassing to be done that day (and it was only early afternoon.)
They were telling people to come back later at 4:00 AM for the early canvas. They could also phone bank but they weren't even pushing that since the office was jammed and the lawn was full of people phone banking. I was already doing second round calling for people since the first round had been completed.

My feet hurt, my knee is also hurting (when did I get old?). But, dang, walking around last night and today was just the thing to ease the spirit.
Yes, I did it for selfish reasons.
I have been angry for eight years. The tight ball in my gut is now disappearing.
It seemed like I wasn't needed to bang on doors for Obama. Almost everyone I talked to was excited to vote for him. If they looked peeved to have to answer the door, I just had to mention that we have to make history happen, and every one broke out in a huge smile.
Maybe I helped get one person to decide. A 20-something woman this morning, she tells me, "Oh, yeah. Well, I haven't thought about it much." I told her that this was the time, she had until 8 to think about it. We needed her.

There's an interesting thing about this story of Greenwood. I started following the primaries about a year ago, and I checked out Obama's youtube page, looking at every speech more than three minutes long. During my speech I found the following:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJDNzYp0Ecw
I'm not gonna bet money on this, but I will guess that it's the first time that he mentioned the Greenwood anecdote. It was also the first speech I saw of his that made me consider taking him seriously as a possible viable candidate for presidency.
This speech did two things for me. First, I was impressed by his ability to be... hell, holistic in his vision for the United States. His beliefs flowed like a river, encompassing everything from education to foreign policy to hope for the future. Second, I was seriously impressed by his chameleon-like ability to relate to different audiences. He can be the editor of the Harvard Law Review in his debates; he can be the wise statesman when he was answering questions during the Google Q and A; he can be the brother laying down some truth to his people in Manning, South Carolina, adding humor to his Greenwood anecdote by mentioning how, in addition to his tiredness and low spirits, the Black women in the crowd were nice and pissed off about how the rain was affecting their fresh perms. "Some of the sisters, their hair was kind of... you know how y'all all about your hair, too... they're lookin' at me like it's my fault."
It's really funny to me, to see that he's still using this instance, but that, depending on his audience, he relates it in an entirely fresh way each time. Now, how will this relate to his ability to lead this country into the next era? I've honestly got to shrug and say I don't know. But I do have a certain amount of confidence and comfort, thinking that our next leader is the kind of person who can relate to anyone and anything that comes his way. That kind of person is what we're going to need to get us out of our current messes and into something where as many people as possible can lead productive and happy lives.

I voted Nader today. Because he is the only one for true universal healthcare, which is single-payer healthcare. Obama is for national health insurance, thus keeping the big insurance corporations ruining our health.
Obama will not bring our soldiers home, he stated he would take them out of Iraq, and he will move them to Afganistan and other places to fight terror. Only Nader will bring the men and women home from both Iraq and Afganistan and end this war.
Vote Nader/Gonzalez 2008

Best response to the Nader vote I've ever heard:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIFEceopAUI
Very simply: if you're dealing with THIS system, then you have to deal with reality, not ideals. Nader's not gonna win, and he's not gonna get enough votes to get federal funding for a viable third party. Sorry, man. I wish it were the case, but it's not. So deal with the reality you're given, and make your plans, damnit. Vote Obama to make sure that the radical pro-life gun-toting nutso doesn't get within arm's reach of office, and then go volunteer for the green party and start talking to your local groups.
In fact, now I'm kind of upset at you. Are you the kind of person who does nothing and then bemoans this stuff every four years? Or are you an actual activist for a multi-party system? Because even if you're the latter, you've got to admit that McCain and Obama do have radically differing views, even if they are both in the pockets of corporations.

If Nader doesn't need to be President to do that, then why hasn't he already done it?
If he does need to be President to do that, then he's not going to do it, is he?

Sorry, But you are implying that I would have voted for Obama if hadn't voted for Nader. But you are wrong, because I have never voted for a Republican or Democrat. So Obama would never have my support nor would McCain.
There are more candidates out there running than what are considered the 2 major ones. The people that support third party and independent candidate know that picking the lesser of 2 evils is still evil.
I choose to vote my conscious.
But you will hack this comment up and twist it in your own little ways, because you feel some hatred towards Nader. But that is your problem to deal with.
Have fun!

Um, you meant "conscience," not "conscious." Which is well and good, voting your conscience. But it won't do anything. Not a thing. Sorry. You've got to put up a much harder fight than that, not just put a protest vote in every two/four years.

"I voted Nader today. Because he is the only one for true universal healthcare, which is single-payer healthcare."
Gravity, why didn't you just stay home, jump up and down three times, whilst chanting "Ooowoogah-Woogah! That would have effected the same amount of f*cking change as your voting for Nader, and save you a trip to the polls.
If the US had a parliamentary system of government in this country, then your vote would make sense; Naderites would win a few seats; Gore in 2000 would have been compelled to form a coalition government. But we don't. Your vote for Nader only puts people like Bush in power.
I would bet my testicles that if there were a comprehensive scientific survey, it would find that Nader voters are smarter than the national average, and probably by a fair margin. But...
I can find no better example (with all due respect) of smart, even very smart people behaving like idiots than the Nader crowd.
(I will go willingly,Please do not harm my family.)

Olbermann touched on the subject of Obama's dignity last night, actually.
via newsy.com
"We all know what would have happened if Obama had made the mistakes, gaffes, Fruedian slips, and hypocritical pronouncements that McCain has made- he would have long since ceased to be taken seriously by any party devoted public."
If a guy like Obama can't win in the US (over a smear candidate like McShame), it may be time to ship off to Canada..
