Obama: "You've Never Seen Dick Cheney Delighted Before"

A few moments ago in Ohio, Barack Obama tweaked his ongoing mockery of Dick Cheney's McCain endorsement a bit.

"Yesterday, Dick Cheney came out of his undisclosed location," Obama said. "He said that he is, and I quote, 'Delighted to support John McCain.' He's delighted. You've never seen Dick Cheney delighted before. But he is. That's kind of hard to picture."

"So I would like to congratulate Senator McCain on this endorsement," Obama continued, "because he really earned it. He worked hard for it."

McCain has been such a loyal supporter of the Bush-Cheney agenda that the opportunity to endorse him has made even Cheney smile. Funny.

One more day.

Barack Obama tweaked his ongoing mockery of Dick Cheney's McCain endorsement...

...Mockery they so richly deserve. I'm glad Obama's having fun with this. Cheney's endorsement is a hilarious spectacle. Good fodder.

user-pic

He is having fun.

That's one thing that has told me how confident he is.

user-pic

Confident. Good point.

user-pic

I was at the rally in Cleveland tonight where he made that joke. It was awesome, just like the rest of his speech and the event. Being among the 80,000 friendly smiling faces of all different cultures, skin colores, ages and walks of life, all listening intently, full of hope. Very good for the soul!

user-pic

Only nne more day?

user-pic

Chris Matthews says the new Wright slime has been put on the air by the neocons, which ones he doesn't say.

user-pic

Chris Matthews says the new Wright slime has been put on the air by the neocons, which ones he doesn't say.

user-pic

TPM EC reported it to be from the PA GOP.

user-pic

"He's delighted. You've never seen Dick Cheney delighted before. But he is. That's kind of hard to picture."

Alright, now listen. THAT was the fucking funniest thing I've read in ages. THANK YOU BARACK for making LOL good and hard. I really needed it.

user-pic

Very snarky I thought. Laughing at his own jokes, too. Gotta love the guy!

user-pic

LOL! He's become sharper and funnier on the snark front... I can't wait to see the vid.

user-pic

I can smeeeeeeeeeellllllll what Barack! Is ! Cooking!

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

user-pic

Why did Cheney take so long to endorse the candidate of his own party?

Had anyone noticed before now that Cheney had not endorsed McCain?

Is this damning by faint praise, or shall we say a knife in the back? Cheney is many things, but he is not stupid, and surely knows that his endorsement will not bring McCain a single vote he doesn't have already.

As McCain's ship sinks, Cheney throws him an anchor.

user-pic

O I have thought that myself - cause like you say, Cheney isn't stupid.

I think we'll be analyzing that endorsement for a long time -

It may have something to do with trying to nail down Wyoming. I have no idea -

user-pic

May be Cheney and McCain hate eachother and Dick is just being the dick.

user-pic

The Dick only got aroused after Palin joined the ticket.

user-pic

He was hoping she'd take him hunting in her helicopter.

Note to Dick:  Don't shoot the pilot!

user-pic
One more day

Correction, using the Sargent Rules, I believe there are TWO more days.

And 80,000 in Cleveland isn't bad at all.

user-pic

It was even funnier in person.

user-pic

You lucky duck...and I don't mean the Wall Street Journal kind.

user-pic

Fourty Eight hours before the early returns come in.

Sorry for stating the obvious. I'm mentally exhausted. Very much ready for a new day.

user-pic

Heh i rented Fallout 3 to distract me it to keep my sanity.

user-pic

I admit I'm nervous. Far less nervous when compared to debates, but I'm nervous. One moment I imagine a landslide and another moment I wonder if we covered all the bases.

All I want is a early call for Obama in VA.

user-pic

Ditto ill be refreshing websites like mad starting at 47 hours

user-pic

You won't have to worry about VA once we are called the winners in IN.

user-pic

I wonder which network will call the race first, and at what time?

user-pic

The jzap network is calling it now for Obama.  Ten-plus percentage-point margin.

Oh, wait...  You did mean to include neural networks, didn't you?  :-)

user-pic

I'm with you! If the latest CBS poll holds true it is going to be an old fashioned butt kicking.

user-pic

I'm nervous too.

user-pic

He's never seen Cheney delighted before? Come to think of it, neither have I. But I've got a feeling that a delighted Dick would look a lot like Frankenstein did when he heard the blind hermit play the violin.

user-pic

Delighted prick is a better descriptor for Chaney that delighted Dick

user-pic

Man I am ready for this one to be over, but I don't want it to be over as well.

user-pic

I just watched another Obama clip from Ohio today. Forgive me if I what I'm about to say is anathema or sacrilegious in any way but:

I always wondered what it would've been like to have been around when MLK was leading the Civil Rights Movement (I was only 2 when he was murdered). Video tapes of him are moving of course, but, to have someone trying to in my opinion(and my opinion only) capture that sense of urgency and moral imperative for the nation, in MY time, is just emotionally for me very heavy.

user-pic

What I remember most was seeing all the rioting on the news after the murder. Of course, I was only twelve and busy with, well, other things.

I have often wondered, and this will be really politically incorrect I know, if his murder advanced the civil rights movement beyond what it would have been had he not been shot.

I know it changed my parent's view. All of a sudden "protesters," weren't just hippies and criminals.

user-pic
I have often wondered... if his murder advanced the civil rights movement beyond what it would have been had he not been shot.

Yes.  The power of martyrdom.  MLK saw it coming but walked down that path anyway.  Inspiring beyond words.

user-pic

The ball was already rolling on civil rights, and the Civil Rights Act(1964) had already been signed into law, as had the Voting Rights Act(1965). Much of society was already engaged in the issue - on either side, and Thurgood Marshall had been successfully nominated to the Supreme Court.
His murder did put a damper on the anti-war movement for a while, by removing possibly the most passionate voice for human decency of the era.

I want to be clear that I'm not trying to diminish his legitimate status as a martyr - I want to clarify the point in time it happened, and what he was focused on when it happened. His death was a serious blow; there were others already carrying the torch on civil rights, but he didn't have time to fully express his opposition to the US conflict in/with Viet Nam.
This is, BTW, my opinion, but it is thoroughly informed by a professor who was a chairman of SNCC during the era, and a personal acquaintance of Dr. King.

user-pic

Thanks for the added perspective.  I was entering college in 1968, and what you say resonates very well with what I remember.

The LBJ civil-rights laws were monumental.  Ironic, but it seems JFK's martyrdom was essential to their passage.  Unlike MLK, though, JFK did not have a singular purpose identified with his existence.

There are so many what-ifs.  RFK (my senator at the time), the lateness of HHH's epiphany (also Robert McNamara).

I was just glad I flunked my draft physical :-)

user-pic

Yeah, it's overwhelming to me, too.

I don't want to objectify Obama too much--I'm sure, like any other person, he has his reasons for doing what he does. But when I listen to him, I have this sense of trust that he lives and breathes how crucial this election is, it's not just talk, and he's running because he really does give a damn.

I was listening to public radio today to and from where I canvassed. A number of public figures, especially musicians, were talking about GOTV (a lot of folks who have been around the block a several times)--and I know you all know it, but people get it. They get that this one is for the whole bag of marbles.

I've decided to take Tuesday off to drive people to the ballot box--or help however I can. I'd be worthless at work.

user-pic
I've decided to take Tuesday off...  I'd be worthless at work.

I'm taking Wednesday off.  I know I'll be absolutely worthless that day!

user-pic

New USA Gallup - Obama 53%, McLame 42%

According to Matthews.

user-pic

Thank you.

user-pic

There's a graph a friend sent me that she pulled off of Kos that would make you feel even better.

Let me see if I can find it.

user-pic

Love you Tena. I'm alright though.

user-pic

Today - 50.7
Obama's single highest one day average in RCP.

In sports, they call that peaking at the right time.

For comparison, McCain's highest one day number was 48.3 on 9/8.

McCain did not break 46 in any polls today.

Almost there.

user-pic
In sports, they call that peaking at the right time.

In politics, they call that tightening.  This time, though, it's for very loose values of tight.

user-pic

Thank You. Touch Wood.

user-pic

That USAToday/Gallup that will be published tomorrow is an 11 point spread.

Obama 53% to McCain 42%

Economy: Obama 48% McCain 27%

National Security: Obama 37% McCain 37%

user-pic

Chris Matthews covered those numbers, too.

user-pic

Thanks. This

Economy: Obama 48% McCain 27%

National Security: Obama 37% McCain 37%

says it all about the dynamics of this election. People won't give a shit to smears and attacks.

user-pic

Something tells me that Drudge won't be highlighting this result in bold red siren - just a hunch.

Developing....

user-pic

Beg to differ, Barack. Cheney shows his delight every time he lifts his shotgun and takes aim at a bird that was just released from a holding pen. No need to actually hunt, you know. Just blast away. Now that is pure delight.

user-pic

This article brought tears to my eyes.
http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1103/p09s02-coop.html

user-pic

Wow!

Thanks - that was a great article.

user-pic

i wonder if TPM's servers will be able to hold up on Tue?

user-pic

I hope they don't because you what what that means?

user-pic

No, what?

And I love you too. :)

user-pic

i hate to know that i will be spending time at KOS on tuesday.there are some nuts over there.

user-pic

I just meant Good Obama news has reverse correlation with the strength of the TPM server.

More Good news for Obama more TPM server is likely to breakdown.

LOL.
.

user-pic

My brain is only operating on half speed today.

;)

These time changes kill me and that's silly since I'm not following some schedule.

user-pic

I don't wonder that at all. I'm positive they won't.

user-pic

doubt it. They can't hold up now. I get error messages when I post and the youtube embeds never seem to play sound when traffic is heavy.

A lot of servers will be burning oil on Tuesday night.

It's going to be an exciting night for all us junkies, that's for sure. Well, it'll be an exciting morning for me, I'm in Asia, but, damn. Anyway it goes it'll be history.

user-pic

Gawd, Matthews has two hacks on now virtually cheering for racists to decide the election. That's how pathetic the Republican Party has become.

user-pic

I couldn't believe he put Smerconish on in the first place.

user-pic

Smerc isn't that bad, he is usually center right. He even endorsed Obama.

user-pic

I just made my last donation for Senator Obama after seeing the Wright ad.

I am happy about the latest USAToday Gallup.

Obama/Biden 08

user-pic

It just ran again here in MN on CNN. HATE is the word in the background. What a bunch of sickos. SCREECHING HATE under the guise of opposing it.

user-pic

I am, too. Very happy.

user-pic

That was supposed to be a reply to psmdsfc -

user-pic

Greg,

Can we have a new thread on the gallup poll with some details on the internals?

user-pic

I don't think the internals have been released yet, but the USA Today article has this encouraging note:

One more historic tidbit from the survey: Obama's favorable rating is 62% -- the highest that any presidential candidate has registered in Gallup's final pre-election polls going back to 1992.
user-pic

So...you might be able to win elections by being well thought of, not just by being the more effective candidate at smearing your opponent? That could open some people's eyes.

user-pic

CBS put out another poll tonight - 13 point spread.

And it's growing.

I'm just - wow. Best campaign ever!

user-pic

Aaarrgh!  I just can't stand all this tightening!  I think my pants are about to fall down!

user-pic

BTW, here's a link to that CBS poll.

user-pic

Jzap: Did you see this? I was intrigued by your intuition of +10 for Obama on another thread. You mentioned sampling bias regarding cell phone users. Anyway, I just bumped into this over at 538. Very interesting.

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/11/cellphone-effect-continued.html

user-pic

I left your a reply down-thread.

user-pic

Ahhh - now for some Bill the extremely hot Vampire.

user-pic

Don't you think Bill is a little...pastey?

user-pic

I can overlook that - no problem

user-pic

Dunno why my mind made this association, but with November and the advent of standard time, I think I'll go make myself my first Hot Toddy of the year :-)

user-pic

From a dKos poster who was in Cleveland rally

Standing amidst the crowd, we could see Obama's plane as it flew into the lakefront airport. Later, it began to drizzle just as Obama mentioned Dick Cheney's endorsement of McCain. Obama joked “That’s what happens when you start talking about Dick Cheney."

Talk about being quick on one's feet.

user-pic

And, oh, the crowd turnout was 175 K - 200 K.

BTW, I got an error message (unprecedented traffic ???) posting the above one, though it got through successfully.

Is this self flagellation time, Josh ? I mean why would TPMEC issue a wrong error message when the post went through just fine.

user-pic
I mean why would TPMEC issue a wrong error message when the post went through just fine?

I think it's just to keep us from getting complacent!

user-pic

LOL!

user-pic

Just 1 more day!!!

user-pic

user-pic

God Dammit! Two days of posts disappearing into the ethertubes. Maybe I'm being too positive, confident, and, well, peaceful. So, fuckity fuck fuck fuck! Snarky snark snark snark! There, maybe this will get through now.

To summarize:
41 states. 404 EVs. We are going to win big big big. The pundits are going to be screamin' and creamin' because this is gonna be a bona fide LBJ Slide. It will engulf the recht-verschimelt and expose them as the clattering scheisskopfs they truly are.

Ladies and Gentlemen, in two days we will all join in song, celebrating the election of Barack Obama, emancipator of the bright light; the shining star of democracy. Believe it. It is happening. With our commitment, support, and sacrifice, President Barack Obama will lead us on a new journey.

What a blessing to be a part of this. Thank you all TPM'ers for sharing your thoughts, your wit, and your hearts.

user-pic

It worked! Never doubt the fucking power of fuck. And snark. Yipeeeee!

user-pic

McCain diverting remaining funds for media, away from pursuit of an effective ground game on Tuesday combined with early voting stats from North Carolina and Georgia indicate a big wave is gonna hit. We may all be too hung-over to get to work on Wednesday morn.

user-pic

Anyone watching Rachel Maddow? She just did a commentary about the long lines and the likely event this is causing voter disenfranchisement. Better yet she coined the phrase as it a poll tax. It was a very powerful and true commentary. I urge all of us to stay in the lines and vote come Tuesady! The course of our country depends on it.

Peace, Luv and Hair Grease!

arftech

user-pic

Aviso, folks: Josh's extraordinary server keeps advising to resubmit, that it is experiencing unprecedented traffic.

Imagine that there had been no tradgedy off of Martha's Vineyard, that in the year 2000, John Kennedy Jr. had entered politics in New York and had gone on to become this year's Democratic presidential nominee.

Yes, I'm a Kennedy partisan, but I sincerely doubt that if the above had occured, that there would be anywhere near the activism and enthusiasm we have witnessed, that has been generated by the candidacy of Senator Obama. Candidacy in and of itself is leadership!

user-pic

The essence of leadership is the ability to explain things to people so they understand and become motivated.  BigO is a gift that comes along once in a generation.  I'm so looking forward to our new Explainer-in-Chief!

user-pic

Two days left!

Let's spank these bastards!

user-pic

O baby, I think we are.

:)

It's time to admit it to ourselves. Quit being terrified of good news and just laugh our asses off! That's what I'm doing - well and getting ready to watch Entourage.

The joy is building.

user-pic

Jzap, I left this link for you upthread. I saw it after reading your comment about cell phone users in another thread. I don't usually chase people down to reply, but I thought you might find it interesting in light of your intuition about Obama coming in at +10. Anyway, last try:

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/11/cellphone-effect-continued.html

user-pic

crap... was meant for jzap... lol oh well

user-pic

No, I hadn't seen it.  Thanks for the link.

I wasn't primarily thinking about cellphone bias, but that article makes sense.  Even if polls do try to contact cellphone users, who's gonna want to waste their anytime minutes talking with a pollster?  The free-weekend-minutes effect is quite plausible.

I was thinking of an effect on top of that.  Who's gonna want to waste their time talking with a pollster, airtime charges notwithstanding?  I was thinking the bias of who agrees to be polled vs. who's randomly called would result in a pro-McSlime shading.

And now I'm feeling that my +10-point margin prediction was too pessimistic :-)

user-pic

Oh, there you are. I was hoping you would reply. Now that's some pessimism I can get behind.

Yeah, I really thought it significant that there is such a wide spread in the results between pollsters who call cell phones and those who don't.

Also, I'm not sure about the idea of an anytime minutes bias, although it does seem plausible when I think about it.

I've burned a whole bunch of minutes (we're cell only here) doing calls for Barack, but I'm not sure if that translates into the same kind of willingness when it comes to being polled.

I'm really wondering if we aren't entering a new era where polling is concerned. It will be cool to read the post-election analysis of all this.

user-pic

There's gonna be so much head-scratching among the pollsters, they'll be wearing away the hair and skin and end up scratching bone.

user-pic

"With two days to go, only 8 percent of likely voters are uncommitted – either they have not yet chosen a candidate, or their minds could still change. Nearly all of these uncommitted voters say they plan to vote."

"Today’s uncommitted voters are mostly white, and more than half are age 45 or older. Just over half are men, and most live in the Midwest and South. Half describe themselves as moderate, and many are not partisan - four in 10 are independents."

What we have here folks are plastoid brained bozos waiting till the last minute to see where the wind is blowing and then casting their vote wishing to be ON THE WINNING SIDE. In other words, the Idiot Wind.

user-pic

They "plan" to vote. They won't.

user-pic

You just have to know how to treat this server, ok?

Be patient. Hit submit, then open a fresh page, load it, come to Electioncentral, then open comments and you will find your comment.

Don't hit submit again and don't get impatient - just treat it like it's a slow piece of shit cause it is - exceedingly buggy and slow and the trippiest I've ever seen, hands down. But it will work if you just treat it like that.

user-pic

hm. I just hit the back button after hitting submit - then click comments link and there it is.

user-pic

Yeah, it works that way. But opening a new page gives me something to do and I've found that that's almost exactly the time it takes for the thing to post.

user-pic

lol.. whatever, there's no doubt that you are right about knowing how to treat this server, though. :)

user-pic

Obama's campaign has been brilliant and a perfect example of Obama's leadership capabilities. He has done his part now we must do our part and vote Tuesday. And if there are long lines, we must be patient and hang in there. And don't take the polls to heart, everyone of us needs to vote no matter what the lead is. I'll be in line Tuesday and then glued to my TV after that. You can bet on it.

user-pic

Voted already, sweetie.

user-pic

It's been really cool listening to pundits and specialists on TV saying it's been the best campaign in history.

Surely it has been - it's broken all kinds of records.

He's so goddamned organized, he's had his transition working for months so that it will be a smooth transition.

O gods, I

user-pic

That's what I get for trying to do 3 things at once:

O gods - I can't believe I'm talking about a transition - George fuckingW Bush is leaving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheney is leaving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE REPUBLICANS ARE LEAVING!!!!!!!!!

sorry.

user-pic
THE REPUBLICANS ARE LEAVING!!!

sorry.

Yep.  What a sorry bunch they are.

user-pic

I think the server is designed to keep Republicans from posting. They aren't smart enough to figure out the secret posting process.

user-pic

Funny, I thought they'd DESIGNED the posting process.

user-pic

Poster suppression tactics!

user-pic

I'd guess it's something with Josh's software, rather than the hardware (no problem thataways by all apparents...).

Otherwise, in view of Tuesday night festivities, has anyone any advice as to how to avoid a hangover? I ain't ever had one. What should or shouldn't I buy at BevMo?

No rain predicted here in Cali. We saved a load of fireworks from last July 4th.

user-pic

Ah, how to hammered without killing yourself. First rule of thumb is get pleasantly buzzed, but not shitfaced. Nothing will prevent a hangover if you get shitfaced.

I have generally - though certainly not always - found that a hangover can be much reduced by simply buying top quality beverages.

If you like Vodka - try Sky, without the flavorings.

If you like Bourbon (my personal favorite) - try Wild Turkey.... and so on.

No need to spend a lot, just buy quality.

Also when it comes to beer, definitely stay away from honey beers (headache hell).

Oh and wine - don't do it. Stop at 2-3 glasses. All wines produce deathly hangovers in my experience.

user-pic

Excellent advice! 11/4's gonna be a grand occasion to break out the Hunter S. Thompson memorial bottle of Wild Turkey.

user-pic

Oh, no that sounds lovely. Hunter would surely approve. If you've had it since Hunter died, it's going to be sweet indeed. Enjoy :)

user-pic

What works for me is just to stay hydrated. Drink lots of water.

user-pic

Good point. If I'm planning to get drunk, I always try to down a glass of water between refreshes of cocktail, and it's surprising how well that seems to help.

It won't help if you buy supermarket brand rotgut, though. Buy quality, whatever you drink.

Besides, life is too short for cheap liquor.

user-pic

You can't go wrong with Sky.

user-pic

Nope. The ultimate hangover-free drunk: Sky. ; )

user-pic
Drink lots of water.

Hugely important.  Rule of thumb:  two beers, one water.  Adjust appropriately for other bevs.

Also, lay off the tobacco if you can.

Lastly, rehydrate and down a couple of aspirins or ibuprofens before hitting the sack.

Hmmm.  I think I'm gonna hafta get me a bottle of Oban for Tuesday night :-)

user-pic

Oban. Lovely. Makes me feel rich when I sip something that silky.

user-pic

Come Tuesday night, we're all gonna feel rich!

user-pic

Josj just posted, they had 3.2 million unique visitors this month. Congrats and job well done.

I just rented A Few Good Men. I need that movie for the next couple of days.

Also, even when I'm signed in, the TPM pop up asks me login everytime I hit the submit button. I hope this message goes through.

user-pic

Man, David Gregory is driving me up the wall...quoting from that Mason-Dixon Poll that shows the race is tightening! I wonder where he leans politically? And for the record his show is simply dreadful!

arftech

user-pic

Yay!!!

user-pic

Opps...that was just my joy to see my comments get posted. Don't mind me.

user-pic

I'd imagine he is liberal, but the media is biased towards whatever gets people to watch. A tightening makes us anxious liberals tune in as well as the Republicans who are looking for some tiny bit of hope.

user-pic

He's an opportunist.

They don't have a party--they just crash other people's parties and eat all the good chips.

user-pic

Let's all throw in and get Phyllis Schlafly a year's aupply of Ex-Lax.

She's gonna need it.

user-pic

Schlafly Bachmann 2012!

user-pic

Sarah would be sooooo jealous!

user-pic

Spalin will lead a murderous rebellion resulting in Alaskhazakstan becoming a protectorate of Russia. Her rule will be abruptly ended by a pack of angry wolves. Spalin's youngest son, the offspring of an unholy union with Vladimir Putin, will turn away from the Dark Side and lead Alaska back into the United States. His first term in the Senate will end in tragedy when Putin's oldest daughter poisons him during a visit to Moscow. President Obama will deftly avoid the start of a new Cold War; his charm and wit cause Putin's balls to fall off during a summit meeting in Marseilles.

So, Sarah won't be around to run in 2012. She'll be busy fucking Vladimir Putin, who has a reputation for buying his mistresses really nice clothes.

Report from Cleveland: My husband and I came to Cleveland (my hometown) from New Hampshire on Friday for our annual Browns game with my family. Then we found out yesterday that Obama was coming here too. Then the hotel moved us to another room because the floor we were on had to be "secured", but no one would tell us why.

We went to the game today (Browns lost - boo) and when we left the stadium to walk back to our hotel, there was The Boss singing, and thousands of Obama fans everywhere. The hotel had moved us to an even nicer room than we had, a corner room with windows all around. We had a perfect view of the stand where Obama was speaking. We put CNN on so we could here everything, and sat in our hotel window watching Obama through binoculars. This was probably one of the best days of my life. The only thing that would have made it better is if we had run into Obama in the elevator!

One of the redcaps finally admitted that the floor we were moved from was secured for Sara Palin. She's speaking here tomorrow.

Wow!

That does sound like a wonderful day!

I'm glad for you.

user-pic

Thanks, SkyMan. Sky it is. We start with the Overture to Tannhauser on Tuesday, strike of Noon. When it all gets called for Obama, we blast away with the finale of Pictures At An Exhibition,
m-80s included. Redneck neighbors will dive under their dining table.

Nice. I love Pictures At An Exhibition. One of my all time favorites, along with just about anything by Aaron Copeland. I think I'll pass the day with Chopin's etudes though. For some reason they always calm my nerves.

Sky and Pictures. Beautiful. Enjoy.

user-pic

Well, I bought 2 songs off Tha Carter III, so I think I'll finish buying the album. I will probably go back old school on Public Enemy, then Dead Presidents, and then run through Nas.

user-pic

lol... no Anthrax, or any of Jello's solo work?

user-pic

Dude - I only listen to hip hop.

Exclusively.

user-pic

Shoot. I saw Dead Presidents, and thought you meant Dead Kennedys. Guess I'm getting old. Rap, not punk. lol.................

user-pic

Sans Public Enemy, but throughout the debates I was secretly hoping against hope that the Obama zinger for the night would be, "John, debating with you is like clapping with one hand."

user-pic

lol... would have been eye-popping for sure. We never would have heard the end of "the one", then.

user-pic

Good point. But if he could have gotten Brokaw to ask the right questions . . . "Senator Obama, please give an example of when you've manifested oneness for the purpose of reverberating bipartisanship."

We showed up for our afternoon canvassing shift here in Northern VA, and all the packets were gone. There has been an explosion of volunteers. You can feel the enthusiasm everywhere.

I can't remember this kind of political excitement in thirty years or more.

user-pic

Just when I'm getting in a good mood, those jackasses run a national Reverend Wright ad.

user-pic

You'll be in a great mood when we make them EAT IT!!!

user-pic

Good call.

user-pic

Yep. Rev. Wright makes Sunday Night Football debut.

Is there any traction?

user-pic

Update:
Good mood again. Gallup final presidential estimate Obama 55% McCain 44%.

I can remember that the Desautel family at our church had their old Plymouth covered with Kennedy bumper stickers in the 1960 campaign. Anyone know where I can get a load of those oval-shaped Obama/Biden stickers? I want to cover my dad's old '84 Skylark with them. Then shrinkwrap it and make it a collectors item.

user-pic

MoveOn.org had an oval Obama/Biden sticker.

user-pic

I love it when Obama goes into late-night-standup-monologue mode. I'm kinda jonesing for some more old-school idealist/inspirational speech mode, though.

user-pic

I was a the rally, and I think the line was more like, "First of all, it's interesting to picture Dick Cheney delighted."

And yeah, he was confident, he was funny, and he was impossible to rattle.

It started to rain, and he didn't blink. He improved his "talking about Cheney" and then segued into a bit about how we had only two more days of these clouds before we saw sunny days again.

Later, his microphone started giving him feedback. He rapped it a bit, casually, and kept going. Completely unruffled.

Last thought of the night from Garrison Keillor...

We've been locked up with the Current Occupant for way too long and the thought of replacing him with the Angry Old Man of the Desert and Whoopee the Ice Queen is miserable in the extreme.

Most of my Republican friends . . . are quietly supporting the skinny guy this time around.  They might tell a pollster otherwise but that's what they will do.  Call it the Palin Effect.

Aka Reverse Bradley Effect.

user-pic

Great piece by Keillor.

Thanks for sharing it.

user-pic

Zemer,

We Minnesotan's (even ones like me who live in France) are rightfully proud of Mr. Keillor.

I got excited seeing the date on your comment.

Nov 3.

One day more!

user-pic

Well, this Michigander appreciates Keillor's canny practicality.

Tous mes meilleurs. (Hope I got this right. It's been awhile since high school French)

Z.

Election Day Ball begins in about 24 hours New York time.

Just to change the subject...

Les Gara, an Alaska legislator, has sent a request to the State Atty Gen requesting his office investigate whether or not McCain and his campaign may be guilty of witness tampering concerning the 10 state employees who refused to testify.

Seems the law in Alaska is quite explicit:

"No person may attempt to induce another into not showing up for a legislative subpoena"

A friend emailed me that she waited 4.5 hours in line to vote Sunday in San Diego, CA. And so it goes!

user-pic

Last I remember, San Diego had about 3 to 4 million residences. That's a lot for such a small city. The suburbs are huge and pretty much fill up the vacant land in the county.
