Obama Talking Points: We Don't Pay Attention To Polls

A Democrat forwards me the internal talking points that the Obama campaign is distributing today to surrogates, instructing them to discuss the end of the race by discounting the polls and touting the campaign's Pennsylvania operation as a sign of the campaign's overall strength:

Everyone knows this is going to be a close race -- and we don't pay attention to the polls. We're going to continue to put 110 percent into this effort, and we're confident that it will pay dividends on Election Day.

Just to give you a sense of the scale of our operation, take a look at what we're doing in Pennsylvania alone: This weekend, volunteers knocked on more than 1.8 million doors and made 1.2 million phone calls -- in Pennsylvania alone.

The talking points also tell surrogates to stress the fact that Obama returned today to the site in Florida where McCain committed his original "fundamentals of the economy are strong" gaffe. For those of you who like this sort of stuff, the full talking points are after the jump.

Daily Points - November 3, 2008

**Not for Distribution**

1. One More Day

After decades of broken politics in Washington, and after twenty-one months of a hard-fought campaign - we are one day away from change in America.

· Tomorrow, you can turn the page on policies that have put the greed and irresponsibility of Wall Street before the hard work and sacrifice of folks on Main Street.

· Tomorrow, you can choose policies that invest in our middle-class, create new jobs, and grow this economy - so that everyone has a chance to succeed.

· Tomorrow, at this defining moment in history, you can give this country the change we need.

Everyone knows this is going to be a close race - and we don't pay attention to the polls. We're going to continue to put 110 percent into this effort, and we're confident that it will pay dividends on Election Day.

· Just to give you a sense of the scale of our operation, take a look at what we're doing in Pennsylvania alone:

· This weekend, volunteers knocked on more than 1.8 million doors and made 1.2 million phone calls - in Pennsylvania alone.

· We have more than 500 staging locations for our grassroots canvass teams, positioned in every corner of the Commonwealth.

· And we have filled more than 200,000 volunteer-shifts for the final push toward Election Day.

· In Florida, we've seen outstanding returns from our early-vote effort.

· With all of the early and absentee ballots cast, Democrats have a stunning 300,000-vote edge. In 2004, Republicans had a 40,000-vote edge at this point.

· Throughout this campaign, we've seen millions of Americans get involved who have never been interested in politics, never volunteered on a campaign, and many who have never been registered to vote before.

· Now, we need to make sure that everyone gets out to vote on Tuesday. And if you have any free time today or tomorrow, we want to encourage you to come down to your local headquarters to help get your friends and neighbors to the polls.

· If you have questions about where you vote and what hours the polls are open, just visit VoteforChange.com to get all the answers.

2. McCain Out of Touch on the Economy

Today Barack Obama is visiting the spot where - as the financial crisis began - John McCain declared that the "the fundamentals of the economy are strong."

· John McCain just doesn't get it. That day, more than 5,000 jobs were lost and more than 7,000 homes were foreclosed on. And the day before, former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan said we were in a "once in a century" crisis.

· McCain's view that the "fundamentals of the economy are strong" is fundamentally wrong, and it sums up his out-of-touch, on-your-own economic philosophy.

· It's a philosophy that says we should give a $700,000 tax cut to the average Fortune 500 CEO and $300 billion to the same Wall Street banks that got us into this mess.

· It's a philosophy that says we shouldn't give a penny of relief to more than 100 million middle-class Americans.

· And it's a philosophy that will end when Barack Obama is President of the United States of America.

3. Closing Argument

The choice in this race:

· Over two years of campaigning, John McCain has failed to show the American people a single major difference from George Bush on the economy.

· We've tried things John McCain and George Bush's way. It hasn't worked.

· It's time for something new. And that's the choice in this race.

· We can choose an economy that rewards work and creates new jobs and fuels prosperity from the bottom-up.

· We can choose to invest in health care for our families, education for our kids, and renewable energy for our future.

· We can choose hope over fear, unity over division, the promise of change over the power of the status quo.

· It won't be easy and it won't be quick, but it is time to come together and change this country. Obama is asking Americans to believe in their own ability to bring about change.

· And that's why in these last few days we won't slow down or let up for one day. Not when so much is at stake.

The Economy

· We are in the middle of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. At a moment like this, the last thing we can afford is four more years of the Bush economics that gives more to the big corporations and the wealthy and hopes that it trickles down.

· When it comes to the economy, the truth is that John McCain has stood with this President every step of the way.

· The question in this election is not "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" We know the answer to that. The real question is, "Will this country be better off four years from now?"

Taxes

· Well know we need change, but it's not change when John McCain promises to give a $700,000 tax cut to the average Fortune 500 CEO and $200 billion to the biggest corporations -but nothing for more than 100 million middle-class Americans.

· Obama will give a tax break to 95 percent of working Americans. He'll eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000 and give homeowners and working parents more of a break.

· No matter what Senator McCain may claim, here are the facts - if you make under $250,000, you will not see your taxes increase by a single dime.

Jobs

· When it comes to jobs, McCain promises to keep giving tax breaks to corporations that send American jobs overseas. Obama will end those breaks, and he'll give American businesses a $3,000 tax credit for every job they create - and eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-ups.

· He'll invest $15 billion a year in renewable sources of energy to create five million new energy jobs over the next decade.

How did I triple-post this without trying? Ugh.

user-pic

Josh's "Chicago Blogging" in the front page is interesting.

user-pic

EVERYONE pays attention to polls, some for right reasons, some for the wrong!

McCain only pays attention to them when they're ahead, so I guess polls are non-existent to them.

user-pic

In ground game we trust.

user-pic

Or better: In GOTV we trust.

user-pic

I love the big highlighted heading **Not for Distribution**

...on a copy of something distributed to you that you are distributing to the public.

ANARCHY!!!

user-pic

Doncha know?  Greg is the Redistributionist in Chief!

user-pic

lol!

user-pic

In case anyone missed this in the last thread, some sad news to report...

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/11/obamas_nevada_state_director_d.php

user-pic

Saw that. Very sad. But he has to have known he delivered the state.

user-pic

Whether he wins or loses Nevada, I hope Obama talks about him and publicly gives him credit for what was accomplished, which I'm sure he will!

user-pic

Maybe Weekly Reader will be right! They are the only poll I've seen giving Alaska to Obama. Right on, kids!!!!!!

**Not for Distribution**

LMAO

Josh:

I'm impressed by the interactive electoral map on the front page. Promise me the site and the server will hold up for the election night?

user-pic

Pie crust promises.

user-pic

Looks like things are getting close in Alaska.

user-pic

ROTFLMAO!!!!

user-pic

Did anyone catch Rick Davis on MSNBC yesterday telling Norah O'Donnell that their internal "realistic" poll has McCain ahead in Iowa??

Funny, he never mentioned anything like that when George Stephanopolous interviewed him just hours earlier.

user-pic

Of course, they are ahead in all of the real(istic) America Polls.

Polls that include fake America don't count.

user-pic

O/T, What a sad stretch of the imagination this is ----Drudge claims that this video shows Obama being disrespectful to McCain (the proverbial "bird" flip):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBMdWxcFXQg

user-pic

Drudge is a propaganda hack.

user-pic

No argument there!

user-pic

I'm sorry can everyone working on the drudge talking points for one day- even if you have good intentions.

I think we on the blogs at the left have been reacting to drudge all week. He's insignificant and will fall of the Cliff tommorow night.

user-pic

I mean stop working on Drudge talking points. He's more and more irrelevant.

user-pic

Oooops, duly chastised and heeded.

user-pic

Sorry, didn't mean to rude. It's just that from ACORN flap to tape on redistribution, I have seen blogs on the left being sucked by the drudge.

Didn't mean in a rude way at all.

user-pic

Understood.

user-pic

Oh, as opposed to the rolling eyes and looks of disgust during the debates, the many accusations of terrorism and socialism, the silence when the 527's accused Obama of killing babies, being a Muslim, and a staunch opposer of Israel...yeah, I can see how the righties would be hurt that Obama was supposedly "disrepectful" to McCain.

I mean, how dare the Dems take away McCain's one and only chance of one-upping his Daddy AND helping the GOP retain the White House!

How dare he be so disrespectful!!!

user-pic

And to no one's great surprise (I am sure) our own Matthew Weaver is on this story.

user-pic

I highly recommend the interview Kurtz did with Jon Carson, the head of the ground operation.

If that campaign was any more relaxed, they'd be androids.

Carson is as calm and even and Obama.

user-pic
We're going to continue to put 110 percent into this effort,

Wait, I thought Barack was going to work to improve education and science support in our government! ...sigh....

user-pic

The Governor of NC just on reporting that there are 50 field offices and 21,000 volunteers in the state

I'm going out at 5 am to walk a precinct myself - IN SAN FRANCISCO

Add 2% to the state poll composite in every contested state

user-pic

On our way to canvass again today in 15 mins! I'm psyched!

Let's go win it!

user-pic

So sad...Obama's grandmother has died.

user-pic

Sad news. I was hoping that she lived enough to see her grandson winning the presidency.

My deep condolences to the Obama family.

Thank you for everything, Toot! You'll be missed...

user-pic
user-pic

Obama's Tutu has just make (died)...Auwe...Aloha NO.

user-pic

No. Jeez. Life is so unfair.

user-pic

Fuck. That's terrible news.

user-pic

Hell, if you can put in 110%, why not 115%? Or 150% Or 1,000,000%

I hate that expression. It renders itself meaningless.

user-pic

A hunch based on anecdotal evidence from Poltico and 538

The Republicans have gutted their vaunted 72 Hour operation to pay for sleazeball ads and robocalls.
