Obama Snatches New Mexico, Networks Say

Fox and MSNBC call New Mexico for Obama.

It's an important piece of the puzzle -- another Bush 2004 state snatched away from McCain, delivering Obama five Electoral Votes from the Republican column -- but it feels almost anti-climatic after the Ohio win.

The demographic changes in the west were always going to be key to an Obama victory, and the polls suggested early on in the race that New Mexico was going to be one battleground where he'd succeed.

Every additional Bush state that's snatched makes the possibility of some bizarre and freakish turnaround that much more remote, and makes a landslide loom as a real possibility.

Fuck "pro-America", Fuck fear, Fuck GWB and awwwlll dat sheeee-it!

A collective vomiting was heard across the land...

Hallelujia.

user-pic

"The Bush Puke," as Sullivan has been calling it.

user-pic

If I may, FUCK MOOSEOLINI.

user-pic

Aw, HELL yeah.

I'm loving this night.

We made history tonight. I'm glad I lived long enough to see this day.

Congratulations, President-Elect Obama.

user-pic

This is a beat down. There will be a new POTUS before 10:30 pm est.

user-pic

Now I can focus on the Senate.

President Barack Obama (I never said until this day, didn't want to jinx it)

user-pic

It's over, it's over, it's over, and it's fucking OVER. McCain's ass is officially kicked.

user-pic

VA 71% of precincts:

M: 49.52
O: 49.41

3,000 votes, was 100k+ for McCain an hour ago.

user-pic

We can win VA. Blue counties still reporting!

user-pic

!!!!!!!!Yes!!!!!!!

user-pic

Flippity-flip!  It's raining pancakes!

user-pic

CNN: McCain party has turned off the news. They're listening music instead.

State of denial, anyone?

Today, the GOP as we know it, has passed away.

It won't be missed at all. In fact, FUCK YOU GOP!

user-pic

Yesyesyes. Fuck them! Fuck them all!!!!

user-pic

O is the gift that keeps on giving. I fucking love him.

user-pic

The champagne is coming out of my fridge!

user-pic

McCain's racist campaign pushed away the Latino voters. You have to believe Latino Americans saw the campaign McCain would have ran against a Latino American candidate and rejected him.

user-pic

Obama wins IOWA!!!!!!!!!

user-pic

David Gregory to Chuck Todd on MSNBC: Let's talk about McCain's "narrow path" to victory.

Narrow path. Sheesh.

user-pic

John King tried to find one on his board.

Nope, Naught, nada!

This is fucking it! Counting the minutes to history!

user-pic

It would be nice if Obama has it in the bag before the Daily Show/Colbert Report concludes. See how far I've moved toward the outer loops? I cannot believe this day is real. I'm so tired, but I can't imagine going to sleep later, either.
It's a weird I can handle.

user-pic

Folks, I am going to a party! I'm signing off for the night, it has been awesome. This site and it's contributors have been my lifeblood for the past year. Thank you for that and let's go get drunk!!!

user-pic

Cheers!

user-pic

Wait until after the Obama speech to get drunk - you'll want to be of clear state of mind to remember it.

user-pic

Too late for me. But that's why God invented youtube!

user-pic

Thank You!

user-pic

John King just ran through the entire map and showed that it's impossible for McCain to win. He'd have to win either WA, OR, CA, or HI and uh, EVERYTHING else.

user-pic

yes we did.

i love new mexico.

home sweet home.

user-pic

I'm so lucky to get to spend as much time here as I do and that so It's a very special place. I'd love to stay here all the time - but I'm grateful for what I have.

user-pic

Love you Tena.

user-pic

John King just gave McCain every state except the West Coast and Missouri - and he still can't get to 270.

Your reckoning has arrived, McCain. Choke on it.

user-pic

I don't think CNN has called NM for Obama yet, either. So another nail in that coffin.

user-pic

They just did.

Now I want Freakin' Arizona.

Like Rendell said - I don't want to win. I want to crush them.

user-pic

They did.

user-pic

I've already broken out the cab! I'm tipsy and halfway to ecstatically drunk! haha

user-pic

C'mon Florida!!

user-pic

Florida as an after-thought. What a wonderful situation to be in.

user-pic

I know, but as a Floridian, I just want it to happen.

Plus, I want a landslide!

user-pic

Finally I am released by the campaign, and I am back here.
NM: That's where I put my 8 days into. What a day !
This is the happiest day of my life.

user-pic

Welcome back and thank you for your efforts... beautifully paid off!

user-pic

welcome to the land of enchantment!

user-pic

Meanwhile... MN-06,

Tinklenberg 43.2%
Bachmann 46.3%

10.5% reporting.

user-pic

AMERICA FUCK YEAH!!!

user-pic

Damn it, you beat me on that one.

Well played, worthy adversary!

user-pic

WooooooHooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so fucking happy right now! Come on Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida.

user-pic

Would it be greedy to have New Mexico's neighboring state, Arizona, turn blue? Come on Arizona!!!

user-pic

Come on Missouri, we have a reputation to uphold. Still and all, glad to see that Ohio did its job and gave us an Obama presidency. Good job, all.

user-pic

Happies day in the life of this 28 year old white new yorker. Best day of my life.

Oh...by the way...second happiest thing about this other than Obama win...

Palin is disposed to dark corners.

Fuck You McCain. Fuck You Palin.

Yes. Liberal Black Militant Terrorists From Fake America Rule This Country. Fuck. I'm Happy. I called my friends in CA and they were worried I'd die of an heart attack.

user-pic

Ok, McLame ought to concede.

Then he can wander off and look for Puddles -

user-pic

I think Mr. Puddles prefers the taste of victory to those loosery snausages McInVain keeps trying to feed him.

He's gone and so is the GOP.

Yes!

user-pic

Halperin has called the race:

THE NETWORKS WON'T TELL YOU, BUT THE PAGE WILL:
BARACK OBAMA WILL BE THE 44TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

DEMOCRAT WINS OHIO AND BREAKS MCCAIN'S POLITICAL BACK.

user-pic

Apparently McCain is in conference with Gov. Palin.

Is it too early to think the word 'concession'?

user-pic

I bet he'll wait till after midnight to concede. Because he's petty like that.

user-pic

At this point, isn't it really just a question of the dimensions of Obama's victory (and, of course, ours)?

user-pic

Agreed, c'mon Florida. And Virginia.

I'm an alkie so can't get drunk. But boy, I'm eating tons of chocolate!

user-pic

I'd send you ALL my Halloween leftovers if I could! (We're a very popular house amongst the parents as we treat kids to high-end chocolates. We think kids are the future, so might as well train their tastebuds well!) :-)

user-pic

And Indiana, can we have that one too?

user-pic

Tim Pawlenty would have been a much, much better pick for McCain (I believe I called Pawlenty and Biden for the VP prediction picks) - He just has common sense and certain Republican vision.

user-pic

I think I called Pawlenty too. It would've at least put McCain on the offensive in a state or two. Geez.

user-pic

Bennett is saying Obama is almost a perfect storm

user-pic

Blowing the dust off of a lovely bottle of single malt...

user-pic

Virgina is a bitch...

77% and not closing.

About 6,200 votes @ 9:50 pm

user-pic

Dang! Come on Virginia!!!

user-pic

If they allowed early voting in VA then VA would of been called a long time ago.

user-pic

Is KO is crying?

user-pic

Goodbye, Texas.

*sigh*

user-pic

Don't worry, Tena....it's only a matter of time. We'll get 'em in 4 years.

user-pic

Yep. Texas will be blue in 2012.

user-pic

VA @ 80% reporting and they're both at 50% !!!

user-pic

Obama now has the lead in VA!!

user-pic

McCain takes Texas.

He can dip those electoral votes in bronze for all the good it'll do him.

user-pic

Looks to be 1600 vote difference at the moment

user-pic

I bet he's telling Palin it's over and she's arguing it isn't.

user-pic

Yep, the fall of the bitch is the greatest news thing next to Obama win.

user-pic

Just got back from driving people to the polls. My last voter, Bud, is an AA man, late 60s. The ramp to get in the polling place was on the opposite side of the building. So Bud and I recruited a couple more people to help us power up the grass berm.

Bud was able to sign the voter registration roll, but he asked me to fill out his ballot for him. He could not hold his hand steady enough to fill in the circles.

So he pointed, said the name, and I had the incredible honor of filling in his ballot. It was his moment; I was his servant; only now as I begin to write about this experience is the magnitude of this gift from the Universe coming into my awareness.

I have been forever changed by this experience. You had a hand in this, Tena. My trips to TPM Election Central accelerated the thawing of my heart. Thank you.

user-pic

NV, MT, IA, and UT reporting soon. That should be interesting.

user-pic

McCain lead now down to 7,000 in INDIANA!!!

user-pic

Obama is up in VA!!!!!!!

user-pic

Sorry about Texas, Tena. But hey, we got New Mexico!

user-pic

Iowa!!

user-pic

Iowa is ours.

Concede McLame -

user-pic

Since Carter conceded early, the practice has been to wait until the last polls on the West Coast close.

Plus, we may be experiencing a "Reality Showdown" as the rehalucinatingpublicans' world view may hold for a few more hours until the undeniable Big Blue Wave sweeps their imaginary world down the growler.

Whooosh!

user-pic

IOWA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

user-pic

Iowa for Obama, according to CNN. No projections in MT and NV.

user-pic

Io-way, baby!!!

And too close to call in Montana!!

user-pic

Obama takes Iowa.

McCain takes Texas.

user-pic

BTW... I'm impressed with the TPM servers tonight. They've been holding up well.

user-pic

Agreed. I shall raise a toast to all of the nodes.

user-pic

Shh! You'll jinx it!

user-pic

Obama looks to be 10,000+ in VA

user-pic

May be they finally got the memo from Obama camp to keep up with them.

user-pic

Iowa goes to Obama (ABC).

user-pic

Obama winning FL and NC narrowly!

Those two are going blue!

user-pic

I wonder whats playing on McCain iPod right now.

user-pic

Love note from Nate:

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/11/obama-to-become-next-president.html

Gonna start celebrating now!

user-pic

CNN International pundits are saying Obama has 300+...this is a done deal!

user-pic

most likely 350+ easy

user-pic

John, pick up the phone. Our next president is waiting for a call.

user-pic

Yeah, bay-bee! This is too awesome for words. Now we have to get my home state, Virginia, across the finish line!

user-pic

CNN is saying a McCain insider is saying it's over.

user-pic

Obama is down by a mere 4,300 votes in Indiana, with 83% reporting.

user-pic

whew, Va. Finally-- MAJOR WIN for all of you who worked my old home state. AMAZING!

We Marylanders can finally stop looking south and shaking our heads.

user-pic

McCain will concede a little early to avoid the possible total embarrassment of losing his own home state.

Obama should get on stage before 10:40 pm to make the east coast news so the old fart needs to make the call soon.

user-pic

You think he'll throw in the towel before Obama reaches 270?

user-pic

The last two general elections neither candidate made an acceptance speech or a concession speech.

McCain needs to be gracious and let Obama enjoy this.

user-pic

This is going to sound strange, but I'm looking forward to the old McCain in his concession speech. I think he'll be gracious and go for some unity.

user-pic

This man is destined to be one of our great presidents. I'm ready!

user-pic

Arizona is STILL too close to call! Fuck yeah!!!

user-pic

So is Nebraska!

user-pic

Has it sunk it yet?!?!

President Barack Obama

user-pic

Let's keep saying it until it does.

Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th president of the United States.

user-pic

And don't forget Joseph Biden, the 47th Vice-President of the United States of America.

user-pic

President Obama. Vice President Biden.

Doesn't that sound beautiful?

user-pic

It looks like a Wake over at the Biltmore in Phoenix.

Wonnnnnnderful!

user-pic

Chris Shays the Joe Lieberman of the house finally gets the boot!

user-pic

I can't stop listening to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe5p1BXNCQM

user-pic

Dude. That's my favorite song in the whole world and you just made me cry. I never cry.

But thanks.

user-pic

CNN's map sez Arizona is Obama 19.5K and McCain 15.5K.

user-pic

Looks like the Bradley Effect was really overpowering this time around, huh.

user-pic

John Lewis is on ABC, invoking Dr. King and making me cry.

user-pic

I cannot go to bed until every single state has been called. Also, I will watch the Grant Park celebration. Our polls aren't even closed here in WA State yet, not that they are unknown. I am so happy tonight and so happy to live in a Blue state. Please also let Indiana flip!

user-pic

But what about those lunch pail, Rust Belt, hard-working, beer drinkers?

user-pic

So there you have it, Barack Hussein Obama Jr is the 44th President of the United States
