Obama On Cheney's Endorsement Of McCain: Congratulations, John!
In Colorado later this afternoon, Barack Obama will pounce on Dick Cheney's endorsement of John McCain earlier today. From the prepared remarks:
I'd like to congratulate Senator McCain on this endorsement because he really earned it. That endorsement didn't come easy. Senator McCain had to vote 90 percent of the time with George Bush and Dick Cheney to get it. He served as Washington's biggest cheerleader for going to war in Iraq, and supports economic policies that are no different from the last eight years. So Senator McCain worked hard to get Dick Cheney's support. But here's my question for you, Colorado: do you think Dick Cheney is delighted to support John McCain because he thinks John McCain's going to bring change? Do you think John McCain and Dick Cheney have been talking about how to shake things up, and get rid of the lobbyists and the old boys club in Washington?
Colorado, we know better. After all, it was just a few days ago that Senator McCain said that he and President Bush share a "common philosophy." And we know that when it comes to foreign policy, John McCain and Dick Cheney share a common philosophy that thinks that empty bluster from Washington will fix all of our problems, and a war without end in Iraq is the way to defeat Osama bin Laden and the al Qaeda terrorists who are in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
So George Bush may be in an undisclosed location, but Dick Cheney's out there on the campaign trail because he'd be delighted to pass the baton to John McCain. He knows that with John McCain you get a twofer: George Bush's economic policy and Dick Cheney's foreign policy -- but that's a risk we cannot afford to take.
A huge gift.

So glad to hear of McCain's latest "king of darkness" endorsement:-) Hopefully, it will drown out the continual lies coming out of both McCain and Palin's mouths. They are both unbelieveable!! All of a sudden, they are going to do all the social things Obama has always had in his plan....except, they don't say a word about HOW they are going to do anything! If we live in smart America, not dumb, fearful America that showed up in 2000 and 2004 and allowed elections to be "taken" away, we will be celebrating big time Tuesday night!! Go-Bama! Love it!

Day started out badly with the "November surprise" of Obama's aunt but it got better once the Obama campaign released a statement that Obama didn't know her status and they were returning the money she donated the campaign.
Then it got better because the Mason-Dixon Florida poll which tends to lean Republican has Obama out front at 49% to 47%.
And finally it got super sweet after McCain was endorsed by Sir Dick.

Here's the angle: he thinks McCain is going to lose (he's not smoking the same fairy dust that Rick Davis is). He's there campaigning for the Republicans running for office because the race for the lone House seat is actually pretty close, and the Democrat (Gary Trauner) almost won in 2006.
He's rallying the Wyoming base (which gives him a 53 percent approval rating, btw).

You can tell me I'm nuts, but here's what I think: John McCain has pissed Bush/Cheney/Rove off over the years, but his public criticism of the administration over the last couple of weeks proved to be the last straw. Cheney's endorsement is a deliberate act of sabotage, a cold reprise of McCain's humiliation in the 2000 primaries. They hate this guy and this is one last, fatal thrust.

George, I can't say that I agree with your theory (that this was a stilleto in the back for McCain) but I commented on another blog how totally passionless and without conviction Cheney's endorsement was, and he just read it from a script that probably was written by someone else.
But then I also noticed that he looked weak and wan, and coughed right after the endorsed McCain, so it might be his physical condition. But one thing for sure, the conventional "ringing endorsement," just was not there. It was just words.

Republicans support those who are proclaimed Republicans who seem to espouse Republican BS against all comers.
Who said anything about enthusiasm?
OK, weird: McLame is being tortured by his situation, and yet Cheney isn't pouring it on . . .

Who'd have pegged Dick Cheney as an Obama surrogate?

Evidently the public has consistently had a lower opinion of Dick Cheney than it does of George Bush. I struggle a bit to comprehend the magnitude of that achievement. Dick Cheney has really had to work hard to pull that off. Lotta late nights, I would guess. Lotta explicit and thinly veiled f*** yous to a whole lotta folks, and also clauses of the US Constitution.
I wonder if the McCain campaign might arrange for a photo of McCain hugging Cheney to be taken asap and then lead McCain's closing ads with it? I might even consider chipping in to help fund that ad.
