National Dems Start Pouring Real Money Into Georgia Senate Runoff
Finally! It looks like national Democrats are really getting serious about pouring some resources into the high-stakes Georgia Senate runoff, a race that gives Dems an outside shot at another crucial Senate seat.
Here's the new DSCC ad, which hammers incumbent GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss on the economy:
"For six years, Saxby Chambliss has been part of the gridlock that's hurt the middle class," the announcer says. "But now Georgia can have a Senator who will fight for the change we need."
The line about gridlock in Washington is a clear rebuttal to the GOP saying Chambliss is needed in order to provide a check on one-party Dem rule -- instead, more Democrats are needed in order to take real action. Consider that slogan something of a sneak preview for the ad campaigns in 2010, when the Dems will be working to knock off some notable GOP incumbents and potentially get well over 60 seats.

About time.

I think it took a while for them to wake up from their post election nap.

I think they were deliberately biding their time. They realized that people would be overloaded on politics the week after elections.

"First of all, I hope Senator Stevens is successful in being re-elected. And assuming that he is, I intend to support any motion to remove him"
Saxby Chambliss
That would be a I was for him before I was against him statement. Why does it not surprise me that this guy is a lawyer by trade. He's got that slippery smooth way that could easily be mistaken for pure sleaze.

So it looks like AK will go to the Democrats. Minnesota's gone into a recount. And now the national party is getting into GA for the hail Mary. Interesting times.

Good. I hope they go after his treatment of Max Cleland.

Chambliss was elected in the same cycle as Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue.
Perdue won by race baiting using the state flag issue as a theme for his campaign.
That 2002 election was as racist as it gets. It was shameful to see how hate was whipped up to win these races. McCain shadowed this a bit, but in Georgia it was out and out racism.
Chambliss losing would be a form of justice.

I Thought Georgia was in the "Bible-Belt".
Isn't racism a sin?
Do racists go to heaven?
Or is it as Archie Bunker once said - that "heaven is filled with equal white Christians".

The Democrats don't need to run a campaign again (not saying they should run no ads at all, but the focus should shift). They need to mobilize their voters and get them to vote. Generally such elections have very low turnout, sometimes 50% of what a general election would.
Does this run-off election allow early voting, absentee or otherwise?

Ads are important, and great. But Obama and the Dems didn't just win a big victory with ads alone. They need to couple that effort with a big, bad Get Out The Vote effort down in the Peach State if they want Martin to pull this off.

There are thousands of Obama volunteers with lots of experience and savvy after the general election. I understand that a hundred leaders went to Georgia, but we need the thousands to show up for a gigantic get out the vote effort. They have lots of voter lists to work with. Now the job will be to make sure that all of Obama's voters in the general get the word that he really needs this seat. They're excited about the win and will want to do more to support him if they really understand how important this is. We need to show up, knock on doors and talk to people.
