Bachmann Survives Re-Election Battle

It looks like we'll still have Michele Bachmann to kick around. CNN and NBC are now projecting that the controversial GOP Congresswoman from Minnesota, who put her once-certain re-election in danger after she went on Hardball and called for a media investigation of Barack Obama and Congressional Dems for having anti-American views, has been re-elected.

With 81% reporting, Bachmann leads Democratic candidate El Tinklenberg by a margin of 47%-43%.

Look on the bright side: It sure will be entertaining to watch her squirm at the agenda of President Obama and the Democratic Congress.

Well fuck.

user-pic

Bummer. But she'll be useful for target practice.

In brighter news, Franken has pulled to within 1,000 votes of Coleman, with 12% of precincts still to be counted.

user-pic

Franken will most likely pull it out.
The bright side is Hayes in my neighboring district got his ass kicked out. (NC 8th)

user-pic

We must be close, I'm in the 3rd District. And yes, people finally wised up to Hayes.... and Dole!

user-pic

Well i am in Charlotte so you prolly live a few hours away.

user-pic

And most of the votes still to be counted are in Hennepin county, where Franken has done best.

I'm going to go to bed confident that we're adding a Democratic senator from MN.

user-pic

Feh.

user-pic

Well it seems Obama will not take MO, hes going to lose it by only a couple thousand most likely though.

user-pic

538 had the states dead on, expect they had IN slightly red.

user-pic

They finally called IN, they should call NC as well for Obama soon. Final EV 364...

user-pic

365. Obama picked up CD2 in Nebraska. :)

user-pic

Wins Indiana

user-pic

Wounded....not even dead.

user-pic

The MN race is going to be sooooo freaking close.

user-pic

Senate that is.

user-pic

within a couple hundred votes i bet - at least on first count :)

user-pic

AJC reporting they didn't count the early Atlanta Metro vote.

Oops.

This is not great news for Saxby Chambliss.

user-pic

Good place to watch Al Franken results?

Might be the MN Sec'y of State site.

user-pic

Can't you sell MN to Canada or Abu Dhabi or somewhere? Still, I guess the odious Bachmann will serve as a useful reminder of what the Repugs are really like...

user-pic

Not so fast, Jack. Let me and the missus move to Panama and then put up the real estate signs. Pretty sure Canada won't buy. Maybe we can turn the 6th CD into a huge nuclear waste storage facility. Obviously the people of the 6th are resistant to deadly radiation and demon spirits from the Underworld.

Agree with your comment on Bachmann. Really, the next round of tack-on appropriations are gonna be mighty slim for this district of yester-nazis. I'm thinking the health care reform bill should include a mandatory colonoscopy for these dimbulbs.

Yep, you're right Jack. She'll serve as a visual aid of the Dark Times that Tried Our Souls. She's like the embodiment of delerium tremens. Go You Krazy Bitch!

user-pic

This was the only sad thing that happened in this election.
But made up by "that one's" landslide.

user-pic

We're down 3,800 votes w/ 91% of the precincts in. Near as I can tell, Hennepin County has about 85,000 votes left to count. If the 55-44 guestimate holds, Franken gains 8000 votes. With the Duluth factor thrown in, it looks like a 4,000 vote victory for Al.

Norm will, of course, file a lawsuit and ask for a recount. Then a group of rabid varmints (Gophers? Who the fuck names their mascot after a rodent? I mean, they're kinda cute, but not much more than a cheap source of cat food. But I digress...)

We're headed for recount land. Luckily, the election judges run a pretty tight show. We get it correct here. Time to look again.

user-pic

It took one hell of a nasty inbreeding program to produce Bachman . . . I am sure that the spillover just re-elected her evil ass.

user-pic

Now down 78 votes, with 94% of the precincts reported.

user-pic

93% of precincts in and an 85 vote lead for Coalman. Looks like Duluth and Minneaopolis are playing a waiting game. They'll want to be the one who puts Big AlF over the top.

Nobody is tougher than people from Duluth. If this were a card game, I'd place my big side-bet on Duluth. Those people never blink. Because their eyelids are frozen open.

Franken's gonna win, unless the northern rural counties bussed in a bunch of illegal Canadiens to throw the election. LBJ did it with our friends to the South to win his first Senate race. I'm thinkin we can count on our feet firmly on the ground friends to the North.

user-pic

Another block of Mpls came in with a couple more rural counties. Coalman leads by 1,500. Duluth has been holding steady at 67% reporting for the last hour.

Mpls has about 58,000 votes left to report in.

user-pic

Gregoire beat Rossi in WA for Gov (and Spokane voted blue). Walt Minnick is up 51 to 49 over Sali in Idaho's 1st - if he takes it, I'll be so damn happy!

Sec. of State says we had 3.2 million registered voters this morning. Some Mpls precincts reported Election Day registrations as high as 50% by noon.

if we registered 100,000 voters, our turnout would be 2.9 million / 3.3 million = 87.8%. Of course, we could easily have registered way more than 100,000 new voters. We'll find that out during the day today.

Time to go check on Al again...

user-pic

Argh. 2 AM math error. It's 2.6 million voters. 2.6 / 3.2 = 81.2% wah wah wwwwaaahhhh. Looks like we won't beat the 50-year old record of 83%. If the denominator is 3.3, then it drops to 78.9%.

I blame Bachmann, terrorizer of children. Her mad rantings scared children so much that they refused to participate in our Kids Vote program. Michelle Bachmann. Hater of Children. Enemy of Democracy. And a real Bitch to Boot.

user-pic

Sorry...no offence to Minnesotans intended, but...jeez..Bachmann? I mean, I always thought MN was a pretty civilized, Lake Woebegone sort of place. I was shocked to hear about this ghastly Bachmann harpy. Texas, Alabama, places like that..sure..but MN?

Still, plenty of material for comic relief. Can you imagine her opposing some bill in the House? Dems asking her if maybe they should be investigated for un-American activities?
Court jesters come in handy sometimes.

user-pic

Jack, if you're willing to accept blame for Bush's getting elected twice, then I guess it's fair to blame all of Minnesota for one congressional district. Thanks for electing Bush twice, Jack. Can we sell you to Canada?

user-pic

A useful idiot. Keep her around, feed her, let her read all the winger trash she can (if she actually knows how to read). Give her a microphone & a camera crew now and then & let her continue to discredit winger xenophobia, paranoia & royalist economic theories.

user-pic

I really wish she would have been soundly rejected.

user-pic

I grew up in that district, now I'm in with Ellison, yeah me!

user-pic

As a Minnesota native, What is up with Minnesota?? It's surprising really, the Republicans lost some good people who voted their mind rather than the party line, and yet T. Stevens from Alaska, and Minnesota's Bachmann and Coleman- two of the lowest Republican party hacks around, are re-elected.

user-pic

I live in Bachman's district. I personally can't see the appeal of this wack-job, but it's a red district.

Also, I must admit that Tinklenberg was a pretty lackluster candidate. He'd have made a good congressman, but as a candidate he's a bit uninspiring.

And finally, we had yet another third party candidate derailing an election, with the Independence party's Bob Anderson hauling in over 10% of the vote.

user-pic

That's right. Bob Anderson has 10% of the vote there. This guy ran as a member of the Independence Party, even though the Independence Party endorsed Tinklenberg.

Way to go, Bob! If you don't feel like the biggest asshole in the world right now, you might want to pull your head out of your butt and look around. As for the idiots who voted for him, thanks a bunch, morons.
