Atheist-Baiter Dole Didn't Have A Prayer
The Democrats have now knocked off a particularly nasty Republican incumbent, the atheist-baiting Sen. Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina, according to projections from Fox and CBS.
Dole, you might remember, put up a series of last-minute attack ads accusing Democratic challenger Kay Hagan of selling out to the "Godless Americans" atheist agenda.
Hagan, a church-goer and Sunday school teacher, responded with her own ads lambasting Dole for attacking her faith. And the subsequent polling showed that the attack backfired right on Dole -- she went from narrowly trailing Hagan to badly trailing Hagan.

I'm not the biggest fan of Harold Ford, but the way Elizabeth Dole smeared him on Meet the Press during his Senate run was utterly reprehensible. Good riddance!

Even as a Christian, I think it was a shame to hear Hagan run a serious political ad that said (paraphrasing) "I believe in God. I am a Christian. I Believe in God." I mean, it was even worse to hear Dole smear her, but I think it's a shame nonetheless that someone cannot say, "You know what? I don't believe in God. And I'll still do a good job running your state, country, etc."
I mean, are there not more serious and pertinent issues and matters? And I say this as someone who is probably much more religious than most liberals.

I wanted to ask him, to paraphrase Shaq, "How my ass taste?"

I suspect SFC Wallace is receiving new orders and a poor eval as we speak.
BTW, thanks for your previous comment in re: Hagan - "I think it's a shame nonetheless that someone cannot say, "You know what? I don't believe in God. And I'll still do a good job running your state, country, etc."" What the country needs is a good dose of competent, compassionate agnosticism.

Since no one else has (on this thread), i'd just like to paraphrase Colin Powell: “…what if [she] is [an Atheist]?”

I am so glad Dole lost. I am SICK of Pxians proclaiming that they are better than others. What about "judge not lest ye be judged"? What about "Dont wear your religion on your sleeve like the Pharisees and the Saducees"? What about "dont make a public show of your devotions, go pray quietly in a closet"? What about "Even as you do unto my least brethren, you do unto me"? These sick fucks are such goddamn hypocites! Have any of them ever read the New Testament? A pox on all of them!

From a philosophical perspective, perhaps she should have given greater thought to the fact that Dole spelled backwards, is Elod!
Okay, I have no idea what that means, but I needed a vehicle to say how much I'm glad the bitch is gone!

I have to keep telling myself I need to see the larger picture, that a stronger Dem majority was something needed at this time in an effort to undo 8 years of BushCo screw-ups. However, Hagan showed how classless and/or spineless she is when she responded to Dole's smears not by defending the rights of atheists as people but by trying to distance herself from them as far and as fast as possible, as if somehow just being mentioned in the same breath as atheists was like some foul stain on one's character.
I've heard all the "justifications" before: "The reality is atheists are regarded as little more than homosexual child molesting Communists, etc., and though we 'enlightened' progressives know full well that such characterizations are wrong, we have to cater to the beliefs of the unenlightened majority in order to gain an advantage and be in a position to affect change."
Bullshit. The backbones need to start somewhere, and I have yet to hear ANYONE in either the legislative or executive branches defend atheists in any way, no matter who or what held the majority. (The judicial can't do squat either way so I didn't include that bunch of losers.)
So hurray, Hagan added to the increased strength of the Dems. Looking at what she has brought to the table in terms of integrity and conviction, though, I doubt the improvements will be very noticeable or even forthcoming...
