Strickland Hits McCain Rallies, Vouches For Obama As "Strong Christian"
Obama campaign surrogates are out there in the states today pushing the campaign's attack line over McCain-Palin's unhinged crowds very hard, with Ohio Governor Ted Strickland blasting the McCain team at a rally today, and vouching for Obama as a "strong Christian man" who poses no threat to gun rights.
"Why do I share those two things with you this morning?" Strickland added. "Because the McCain-Palin campaign, and unfortunately some of their followers, would want you to be afraid of Barack Obama," he said. "They want you to believe that he is untested and unknown, and they are doing it my friends for one reason, they want to hold onto the power they have and to the positions that they want."
Meanwhile, the atmosphere at McCain events seems to be getting worse and worse. The Huffington Post points out that a woman in the crowd at a rally today in Wisconsin began yelling "Traitor!" -- and TV footage appears to show John and Cindy McCain looking in her direction and smiling.
Late Update: Here's the video of the woman yelling at the McCain rally:

Can the response from the Obama campaign be far behind?

I suppose that's better than it's all Obama's fault!

I'm sort of leaning toward this being a breaking point -
I wouldn't be surprised to see Mclame buried in an avalanche of public rebukes -
Well, one can hope.

After John McCain loses this election, he will be shunned by Republican senators because he abandoned his party's president too many times as a "maverick," he will be shunned by Democratic senators who find his campaign both offensive and dangerous, he will be shunned by reporters who see that the real McCain is not the "Straight Talk" McCain, he will be shunned by the conservative wing of his party because he precipitated the worst defeat for Republicans since Watergate, but he will be beloved by those deranged enough to think that their president is actively working against the country he presides over.
He will go pathetically into his long twilight, a man of no consequence.

I wonder whether given how badly he wants the presidency and how low he "had to" sink to try and win it, that he will probably be a suicide risk.
What will he have left when this is done ?
(assuming of course he doesn't win)

I agree. It's hard to imagine him living with himself very long after this is over. He failed to get that last house for Cindy, even after betrayal all of his principles (whatever they were) and he'll walk in shame as long as he lives.
Palin probably won't know the difference.

Can we make sure he takes Lieberman with him? Two for the price of one: what a bargain.

He needs to the frog-marched in front of an Ethics Panel to explain his actions in the state of Alaska and inciting hatred in his political campaigns towards another US Senator. That's definitely conduct unbecoming a US Senator!

McCain almost looks frightened and overwhelmed when the lady shouts "traitor".
What must be going on in the head of that man right now? I think he has unleashed a lion that he can't control. He doesn't want to rebuke these people, because he's scared what will happen, to himself.
I think the hard-line republicans are angry that they are losing the election, but probably just as angry at McCain for sucking so badly. They're only at the rallies to here their hard-line right wing Palin speak. She's not gonna calm the rabble, because she's one of them. McCain's not gonna calm the rabble because they might just turn on him.
He's trapped!

Sorry - I am not giving him that out. He's responsible, just like Palin is, but he's the head of the ticket so he's ultimately responsible.

Well the people at this morning's McCain rally must have been there just to get agitated -- Palin wasn't there.

No way I am giving him any benefit of the doubt. He is not trapped. He is solidly behind this bullshit.

He is trapped and he is responsible.
He screwed himself and he's just beginning to realize it.
Next week's debate will be his Waterloo. If he goes on the attack, like he promised the wingnuts, the majority of the public will recoil. If he wimps out, the wingnuts will turn on him.
Even Mr. Puddles won't be able to save him.

I'm not trying to excuse McCain, I just think he climbed on to a bucking-bronco and is now shitting his pants and doesn't know what to do.
There is no winning way out.

davis is on fire today!
"in the middle of the greatest disaster in our financial system that we’d had in our lifetime, that the Democrats in the United States Senate would aIctually link payments to ACORN in the bailout package that they promoted -- prior to Sen. McCain coming to town and actually blowing that package up. So we can actually say that in addition to saving taxpayers millions of dollars, and we’re very happy that no more taxpayer dollars were added to the pile of money going to ACORN."
ON SEPTEMBER 30th....ten fuckin days ago:
"This bill failed because Barack Obama and the Democrats put politics ahead of country," Holtz-Eakin said

When Ted,,,, who is a democrat from rural SE Ohio by the bye, speaks he knows whereof he speaks,,,,,, in each Congressional election he was deluged by ultra right wing krapp and in his run for Governor same thing,,,, even running agains the master of slime hisself, Ken Blackwell, tightly in league with Ron 'God's on our Side' Parsley and his hoard of know nothing fundy preachers. The Parsley machine, a Dobson franchise, is still a threat to be watched,,,, especially in voter supression and pulpit politics.
Ted Strickand has no tolerance for McCain Palin rabble rousing and he's out down here in the boonies giving some real barn burner speaches. And to think Bill Clinton taught him how to do it !

This is the sheer stupidity of the McCain campaign. He is about to walk into a buzzsaw at next week's debate by telling crowds at his rallies, who are begging for the red meat, that he would bring it to Obama at the next debate.
So now, he's faced with following through and then being subjected to the certain Obama ju-jitsu, which is ready to go, not to mention all the pundits afterward who will be trashing him for going there.
Or he wimps out ... and hey, if you can't stand up to Obama, how can you stand up to the terrorists?
McCain has painted himself into a corner that he can't get out of.
Game over.

You know, just a few months ago, a man walked into a Unitarian church in Knoxville and started shooting. He targeted these people because of their "liberal beliefs." Only weeks ago, the head of the Democratic party in Arkansas, Bill Gwatney was slain.
It is simply unconscionable that that stumpy little troll McCain would stand there and allow this kind of reaction - no, encourage this type of reaction.
Country first, my ass.

Afterthought,,,, Strickland and Hill, and/or Strickland and Bill are a powerhouse here in SE Ohio and all along the Ohio River valley north and south,,,, they can turn Ohio blue if they can hit it hard enough and often enough.

Im just dying with all this religious fervor. There suppose to be a separation of church and state right? I cant believe the book I'm reading written four years ago is coming true... I mean really this religious control and support is just like the book America2014... its a total Orwellian classic..... check out the altered bill of rights too at bush2014.com. Classic, a must read with reality like this.

When was the last time Senator Obama needed to say something and was unable to make his case? If McCain brings up questions about Ayers or supporting terrorists or similar bunk, I expect Obama to make his case very effectively. The democrats seem to be baiting McCain into doing this, so I expect a good show if it actually happens. McCain's cowardice will play a role here though, so I wouldn't be surprised if McCain leaves all these claims alone, especially if his polling data suggests the negative attacks aren't working.

Am I wrong or did that woman yell "liar!" after McCain repeated the lie that Obama wants to raise taxes on everyone making over $42,000? Then the crowd begins to chant "USA! USA!" louder which is their standard method of drowning out dissenters.
Watch it again and let me know, but I think you got this one wrong Eric.
October 10, 2008 3:24 PM | Reply | Permalink
I heard "LIAR" as well.
and agreed - the USA! chant is almost always a sign that a protester is in the midst. Like those 12 times at the Repub Convention....
October 10, 2008 3:39 PM | Reply | Permalink
Yep, I heard "Liar!" too. And I agree the USA chant starting up to drown out the heckler points to the crowd having heard "liar" too.
October 10, 2008 5:23 PM | Reply | Permalink
Even when told what was supposedly said I still couldn't tell what was said. And you expect McCain who is in the middle of a stump speech to understand everything that is shouted in his direction.
Keep crying "wolf". That always works...until it doesn't.
October 10, 2008 5:01 PM | Reply | Permalink
It's very clear. She yelled out liar. Then the crowd drowns her out with their typical USA chant. And it's obvious Cindy and John McShame heard it too.
