Poll: Obama Holds Edge On Taxes And Family Values; McCain's National Security Advantage Erodes
More stunning numbers in the new Ipsos/McClatchy poll:
On taxes, for example, likely voters now prefer Obama over McCain by a margin of 8 percentage points. This is despite a concerted effort by McCain and running mate Sarah Palin to cast Obama as a tax-and-spend liberal who'd raise taxes on ordinary folks such as Joe the Plumber, an Ohio man whom McCain cited repeatedly in the last debate and since then in ads and on the campaign trail. On family values, a subject Republicans have used to court Christian conservatives and suburban moderates since the 1980s, likely voters now prefer Obama over McCain by 8 points. That's up from 3 points in mid-September...
Likely voters still prefer McCain over Obama on the issues of national security and foreign policy. However, McCain's advantage on national security, 12 percentage points, had narrowed sharply from the 23- to 28-point edge he'd had in weekly Ipsos/McClatchy polls since Labor Day.
Obama holds the advantage on taxes and family values, and is cutting deeply into McCain's advantage on national security, even though McCain's entire campaign is all about painting him as a tax-and-spend liberal who is culturally different from you and me in some sinister way and doesn't have the toughness or even inclination to prevent you from getting blown up by terrorists.

Everything about McCain screams erosion . . .

Someone should put up a post from Robert Kennedy Jr. this morning on Morning Joe. He completely took them to school on what actual voter fraud is and their reactions were priceless. When Kennedy explained to them that the actual victims of registration fraud where ACORN you could see they'd been gobsmacked. If someone has a video of it, it really should be posted, if not for Kennedy taking them to the woodshed then just for the information alone. Incredible stuff.

I signed up for the Lawyer training weeks ago, and every single session--and there are about 40 of them, just in DC and NOVA alone--are filled to capacity. I go tonight to Catholic University law Scyhool, and their training is in their main courtroom. You know what it takes to fill that to capacity?
Hell, there are going to be more lawyers than voters.
And I f*cking love it. Let the goons try intimidating anyone. I will slap their asses so fast with an emergency TRO in federal court it will make their little bulbous heads spin.
So fired up. So ready to go.

I served on the Florida legal election protection team in 2004, but things are so much better organized this year, under the Obama campaign. We are fired up and ready to ensure that the Rethuglicans don't try to steal another Florida election!

Not that I am being complacent (I go for my Lawyer Training for Obama tonight, and am canvassing my little heart out this weekend in the Old Dominion), but I am beginning to worry that my election night activities will be insufficiently grand. I want to somehow be together in a live place watching the returns and drinking and whooping it up, yet at the same time doing so with people I have come to appreciate and know only online in places like this.
Goddamit, Tena, can't you be there and here at the same time?

See, I had an idea for Dallas, but I'm going to be here in my little Taos house, behind the Guadalajara Grill where nobody knows I am except a handful of people who know me. I don't know what I'm going to do.
In Dallas I was thinking of driving right over to Oak Cliff and joining the first street party I saw. This morning I was laying there thinking about this and thinking - damn, my nephew and his partner live in Chicago - wish I could get up there and from Dallas it would be easy. From here not so much. -

There is no way she is giving up those clothes and go back to her Wal-Mart-wear.
She can pay the taxes on those clothes with the $3,200 per person she receives from the state of Alaska. That's $22,400. No state income tax in Alaska.
Of course, she'll gladly return the clothes that Todd, the kids and Levi received.

COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC, BUT...
I was thinking of you last night while watching 'Taxi to the Dark Side'. I kind of shared your sentiments on Colin Powell, but there is good evidence that he was lied to by people he trusted to get him to say the things that we dislike him for, and those things were laid bare in the film. Just sayin'(even though not really relevant to discussion at hand).

SP is the real life remake of the movie 'Pretty Woman'.
Small town whore. Mysteriously plucked out of nowhere by a (much) older millionaire. Taken to all sorts of events to be oogled over. Bought thousands (and thousands) of dollars of 'pretty clothes'. Claims to want the dream (or run the Senate, or rule the world).
But in this movie - The millionaire (and the nation) kicks this 2 faced revisionist nut job to the curb. Then the whore goes back to walk the streets of Wasilla.
A feel good comedy/tragic/reality sort of epic. An Aesop fable for modern times.
