Palin Supporter Calls African American Sound Man An "Uppity Negro"

As I noted below, in his piece today about the abuse that Palin supporters heaped on reporters at a Florida rally yesterday, WaPo's Dana Milbank wrote that one supporter had hurled an unspecified racial epithet at an African American sound man before saying, "sit down, boy."

A reporter who was there tells me what that unspecified epithet was: "Uppity negro."

Late Update: I should have made it clearer that this happened at a rally where Palin was stoking anger by attacking Katie Couric and the "mainstream media."

He who laughs last, laughs best.

Keep exposing this shit to the light of day. McCain-Palin are going to rue the day they took this disgusting tactic.

Having been raised in the South and being familiar with our neighbors to our south, I could just about promise you that it wasn't "negro". It would have been "nigger".

We don't have polished racists that adhere to prounuciation guides.

user-pic

...which is why the story is BS.

Back from depression counseling?

user-pic

Been around all day...what've you been up to? Shutteling "the homeless" from Ohio back to Pennsylvania and Kentucky?

Heh. You know that was a lame retort.

user-pic

Whatever...that was funny as hell. You know you laughed.

It does sound like bs. How did the slur go from "sit down, boy" to "uppity negro"? This is a side issue to the real hate mongers yelling "terrorist" and "treason" at McCain-Palin rallies.

I'd say bonfires and hoods are not far off.

SFC would know. He's the one who said it.

Oooohhhh...another liberal media conspiracy. How original of you.

The story isn't bs. Own your candidate's bullshit.

user-pic

If it were true it would've been all over the place, here, TheKos, Huffington...it wouldn't have started out with the "boy" comment.

user-pic

Boy you'll just bend your brain into a pretzel trying to defend this bullshit.

it's pathetic.

Oh man, that's so weak it's beneath you.

I think my heart just raced a little. I imagine that comment may have been cleaned up; but even if not, the way Palin and McCain are spewing these arguments—there’s no telling how some of these biased I’ll even say racist supporters will react. Here’s hoping the crazies stay home…

Beat me to it, 2larue. Pretty much guarantee it was ni**er.

Gov. Paterson on Palin: "She is in the candidate protection program now. She went to the debate but hasn't been seen since."

"Uppity Negro"??? what are these Ivy League Red Necks? I dont know what i'm more upset at Them using the phrase or it being used incorrectly. Considering that I myself am an "Uppity Nigga"... Get it right please. McCain/Palin = Joke.

McCain should be asked in the debate tonight about the venom displayed during the campaign rallies of late. It could even just be about the shout of "terrorist" since we have that video. At a certain point, he needs directly to embrace or disavow the racist bile that his campaign is fomenting.

"Uppity Negro"???...sure sounds like a campaign plant and not a true southern redneck...

I agree. Same thing with the person who shouted "terrorist", possibly even the one who shouted "kill him."

All uppity Negros everywhere, are going to have one hell of a fantastic election night. That's all that really matters.

This sounds too stereotypical to have happened.

I'm seriously doubting it was such a refined 'uppity negro, sit down boy' as opposed to an unabashed 'uppity n-bomb, sit your black a$$ down bwoi!!'

either way, a very classy crowd they got over there in McShame/Failin' '08 land!

Absolutely... I must say this "Uppity Negro" doesnt know his place. You there "Sit down boy", we will not stand for this... Are you kidding me NOT WHAT you here in FL or a Klan oops i mean Palin Rally. McCain/Palin = Joke

Yeah, and this "Palin supporter" was a planted McCain campaign worker told to yell something out for the press to hear and talk about...hence, getting off the topic of the economy!

And with TPM and the MSM talking about it, their plan is working!

user-pic

'To what end, Joe? Seriously.

This isn't the kind of PR that gets votes. This is the kind of PR that gets a lot of voters running the other way.

I agree. If anything it would be an Obama campaign plant. Now THAT would be political jujitsu!

And with TPM and the MSM talking about it

I'd say the MSM should talk about it -- but should do so as it is, i.e., hate rallies. And they should fact check right away. If that's how it's reported, I'd be all welcome.

On the other hand, if the MSM is still obsessed with the notion of parity and just going "He said, she said" and feelin good about their "objectivity" then that makes me mad.

user-pic

They've been pulling that crap since Saturday; stating that "both campaigns are getting down and dirty". Makes me sick that the press is so lazy as to blow-off reporting of blatant lying with this equivocation nonsense of "they all do it".

As far as I saw many newspaper headlines were like that yesterday. I was furious and keep writing to those editors to demand accuracy.

user-pic

Holy shit.

Well we know she has the Neanderthal vote wrapped all the way up, along with the KKK.

user-pic

Cheeseheads know sour milk when they smell it!

I think I figured out the real reason McSame pulled out of Michigan.  By dissing MI, he hopes to drum up support in IN and OH:

Hey all you Hoosiers and Buckeyes!  Spartans suck!  Wolverines suck!  Fuck Michigan!  Vote for a good ol' white boy!

This is what desperation sounds like.

Tena- I agree... The humor is in how Milbank wrote it. Not what you hear from a Redneck in FL, trust me a brother that lives in GA and travels around the Southeast all the time...

user-pic

I don't get the point of the update or why it needed to be made clear.

The commenter was goaded by the situation?

Huh?

user-pic

O I do trust you.

The "sit down, boy" was bad enough - that's a killing insult AFAIC. That's almost justifiable homicide.

Josh please - please fix this thing!

dammit to hell -

user-pic

Greg: Could you please get verification of this "Negro" part? Is this a direct quote or was this person relaying it to you being euphemistic?

Tena,

True - but it won't stop those bastards from trying to get attention...ANY attention, good or bad. Some Republicans are very normal, calm, nice people - I'm actually friends with several. Others get off on toxic tactics like this, making their nastiness the core of voter attraction.

Believe it or not, some people are attracted to shit like that. Before I got into advertising, I was a freelance news writer...I attended many Republican rallies, fundraisers and even assisted a writer for the Sun-Times at the 1996 Republican Convention in San Diego...I saw hate like you wouldn't believe! They thrive on it and the more their supporters hear it, the more will come out of the woodwork and rally on.

I agree, this is NOT the PR that attracts average voters, but Republicans are only out to attract their base this late in the game.

user-pic

Darlin, I am not defending Republicans - good lord!

I'm just sayin - look, maybe Rick Davis thinks this is a plan - hell if I know.

But if he does, he's wrong. This is good PR for Obama.

Jesus - do you not see it that way? I mean shit like this assures high voter turnout.

Since everything they're doing is just concentrating their base into a smaller and more vicious and violent minority, I honestly think that's their plan.

Someone on an earlier thread says 'scorched earth' and I think that's right. If they can't run the country, they'll make sure there's no country left for Obama to run.

Kevin Drum called it a month ago - the end result of McCain's vicious campaign is going to be a nation and a political environment so toxic nothing can get done.

user-pic

I think Drum is dead wrong about the end result.

Watch - this is a small, vicious minority. We will have a huge majority and Obama will have loads of political capital.

Not the first time I've thought Drum was clutching those pearls so tight he was cutting off the oxygen to his brain.

;)

It would be interesting to know how other people feel about this, but I'm getting tired of, to say nothing of depressed by, the constant drip, drip, drip of stories about the soullessness of the McCain campaign.

Other people may be able to deal with them better than I, but I end up feeling helpless around a lot of the ugliness out there.

It might help if TPM put up more positive stuff that Obama is doing; clips of his adverts, news he's making that kind of stuff, as a kind of antidote to the dark side of the Republican Party. While the later will always be with us, the hope stuff, is what keep many of us going.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Who knew Obama supporters were so thin skinned.

Doubt it actually happened. Just like the supposed "real McCain" vacation memoir.

Obama supporters are starting to sound a bit like Tawana Brawley.

user-pic

Ther you go...the voice of reason.

user-pic

O nice racial reference, asshole. Tawana Brawley. That just exposed your racist core.

Of course no one is upset over a fully adult African American being called "boy" and "uppity".

Are you kidding?

Go away you bigot.

user-pic

I forgot to tell you, that reason stuff doesn't go over very well here.

"Reason"- like this quote from you a few threads back; "Liberalism is responsible for most of what's wrong with this country,..."

Good luck with that...

"Obama supporters are starting to sound a bit like Tawana Brawley."

It seems that Matthew Weaver, after wiping Larry Johnson's jizz off of his face and getting a new TPM account - decided to post here again. You smoldering piece of shit.

Nailed it!

before i get into this topic much respect to lilibet hagel wife of 1 of my favorite GOP Senator Chuck hagel, iam a big,big huge fan of chuck hagel and richard lugar the real mavericks, now back to this really whut mcbush and palin is tellin these uneducated racist imbred hicks in small town is don't vote for the uppity nigger that went to harvard and princeton university bkuz hes lookin down on u white trailer trash hockey moms or whateva, whut u think about that sfc wallace,fogu2,lalo35,matthew weavers and dumbass bil c?

user-pic

McCain should be referred to the Senate Ethics Committee for censuring . . .This is not 1860.

user-pic

Totally co-sign.

I guess this means he reverses himself yet again on the Confederate flag issue.

On a positive note. I early voted today in Atlanta and if the line is any indication of what voter turnout will be in the African American community, Obama has an outside chance. Over at Fivethirtyeight.com the models projected AA's to be 28% to 30% so far according to the AJC it's been at 41% of all early voting....

I swear when i arrived i didn't know if i was going to vote or attend a Civil Rights meeting, I kept expecting people to break out singing "We shall overcome." 8:45 this morning lines 300 to 400 deep.. Awesome...

This is great news in GA. Not just for Obama, but also for Martin in chasing Chambliss.

John

Maybe the press should at least consider not covering the Palin klan rallies.

user-pic

I wouldn't be surprised to see you and ChicagoJoe get your wish on that.

The press starts getting roughed up and they will be pissed off even worse.
'
The McLame Campaign is in total psychotic meltdown, IMO.

McShame and Failin should be wearing white sheets.

I'm waiting for some dead-ender to put forth the theory that the guy hurling the slur was an Obama campaign plant.

user-pic

Already been put forth, although the person who did doesn't seem to be a dead-ender.

I smell a No Quarter post.
