Palin Out Of The Loop On Decision To Pull Out Of Michigan

An odd moment on Fox News: Sarah Palin appears to say that she heard about her campaign's decision to pull out of Michigan only today, despite it being reported far and wide across our great land yesterday. She seems to suggest she heard it about it from the newspapers...

"Well, that's not a surprise because, you know, the polls are showing we're not doing as well there evidently as we would like to," Palin said. "But I read that this morning also. I fired off a quick email and said `Oh, come on, you know, do we have to? Do we have to call it there?'"

How sequestered from her campaign's workings is Palin, anyway? To be fair, she has been holed up in debate prep for days. But still, this was a major, major campaign decision. It's odd that she appeared to have heard nothing about it, let alone having been in any sort of discussions about it.

They didn't want to worry her pretty little head about such mundane details.

Not that the McCain campaign could ever be accused of being sexist, or anything, 'cause they've got A WOMAN on the ticket.

Exactly. Besides, time spent keeping her up to date on the goings-on of the campaign would be time not spent classically conditioning her to work the word "maverick" into every answer, and they could not afford to lose any time on that project.

I just realized something. Since you listened to the debate on NPR, you missed all those winkety wink starbursts Palin was sending out. Do you feel deprived?

And if you're saying to yourself "Just what the heck is she talking about???", the answer is here (and you may want a barf bag handy. Just sayin'):

Rich Lowry is embarassingly in love

Barf bag indeed. On the other hand, it is Rich Lowry we are talking about, so barf bags just go with the territory.

I, for one, was sad to see him break up with "The War in Iraq"

Olberman making wild fun of him. Very humorous.

How To Be A Maverick, For Dummies.

In chapter one, clearly spells out, that in order to be a Maverick, one must never be in the loop.

Seeing Palin on Fox was kinda like getting a glimpse into the future. During the debate her performance seemed more like that of the typical Fox News anchor-bimbo reading off the teleprompter. I think it'd be a safe bet the she'll become yet another Fox News "Analyst".

user-pic

Hey.... give her a state to work with. And let me see those union folks work her over! But no Todd. She has to do it alone...

Yeah, do you like the way she says "Todd and I". As in "when Todd and I get elected VP..."

user-pic

Did you hear her say how when Dear John gets to the White House she'll be in the White House with him????

She keeps telling us all, she's "not an insider". Of even the McCain campaign, evidently.

TPM has another one where she's talking about specific SCOTUS decisions. Sounds very much like she's reading off a teleprompter. What a farce she is!

user-pic

See my comment above. Driving at lunch I was listening to MPR who was replaying the debate. Hearing her talk without the video was excruciating. She literally sounded like one of those Fox and Friends air-headed bimbos reading the teleprompter; talking in nothing but platitudes. I had to change the channel whenever she came on.

user-pic

See, had you watched on TV, you could have been a recipient of one of those starbursts! Rich Lowry tells me other men probably sat up straight after she winked at them, too!

user-pic

Palin out of the loop - how many punchlines, cheap shots, and one-liners can one person produce?

You report this like it's a bad thing.

I've actually got to defend the McCain camp, here. Palin is not someone you want to have walking around with any more information than she needs. The fact that they realize that shows that they haven't quite jumped the shark completely yet.

If I was running that campaign, Palin would be doing a lot of jogging. Like, all day.

Word.

Things For Sarah To Do Today

1) Jog
2) Breakfast
3) Go play on Fox News
4) Jog
5) Lunch
6) Smile, wave, "Maverick, maverick, maverick."
7) Beddie Bye

user-pic

8) Send out winkety wink starbursts to all the conservative commentators out there.

9) Oh, right, I also have a special-needs infant...hmm, where did I put him down again?

Cannot believe it. You made me laugh out loud.

Get back to us when you have a story about her being IN the loop.

user-pic

Jesus, she's intentionally dropping her Gs. It's so freaking obvious...almost as if she's emphasizing the fact. And it's condescending - hey, if I talk like a boob, people will like me, because we know they're all boogs and boobs like boobs!"

She's insufferable. I can't wait for her to go away.

What are boogs? I know about the other things . . .

user-pic

Boogs are actually the Arctic version of boobs. They are native to Alaska.

Muslim Arctic boobs are called boogiaks. Not sure if Cokie Roberts knows about this, though.

Man, I didn't know about "bosniacks" either and I feel dumb but at least I'm not running for Veep. LOL!

The saying that "Eskimos have 100 words for snow" isn't true. But they do have 100 words for breasts.

We have way more than that . . .

I had a visceral revulsion to this woman the first time I saw her speak. I usually don't have reactions like that.

Oh, yes I do . . .

ah but think of all the people who had wished to see her in Michigan. This will be very hard for them to take.

If she's not....um....important enough to share campaign strategy, how many policy decisions will she be a party to? This is yet another inditement of McCain's piss poor judgment.

indictment

....need more caffeine....

user-pic

"piss poor judgment".

Well, what can you expect from a "reanimated corpse"?

: )

Schmedley - she has clearly stated that she and John have lots of heavy duty discussions on different things. You are just like all the other east coast elites - spending all your time at whimpy soccer games. If you had the view of Russia that Palin had you'd be talking different too.

Daanng - spendin' and talkin'.

So I guess this would then fall into the category of things McCain hasn't asked for her judgment on. Hmm. I'm wondering which category is more full.

http://pufferfish.typepad.com/

Hmmmmmmmm how about this one?

"Of course Palin wasn't in the loop in discussions of pulling out of Michigan early. If you look at her record on sex education in Alaska, you'll realize she doesn't believe in pulling out early at all."

user-pic

Poor little dupe. They probably don't tell her a thing.

I'd bet five bucks they don't even give her air fare home once the election's over.

Off-topic: Wasn't Palin supposed to release her tax returns today?

I think they got another extension to Oct 6.

She seems more confident in that interview - maybe she's buzzing from not royally screwing up the debate. I guess it is a relief that the pressure is off of her - she's been cramming for the debate almost since she was put on the ticket.

Well, of course she's more confident....it's an interview with Fox News. She probably got the questions beforehand.

user-pic

McCain has no more respect or regard for her than he does for other women; he is a true misogynist. He chose her to ignite the base, and to energize his campaign. You can bet that if he won (holy shit!) he would ignore her and she could stay in Alaska for all the responsibility she would have -- until he keeled over anyway.

When he said he has relied on her judgment "many times in the past" it just shows that he really doesn't care what he says. It is such a patently false statement, but I didn't hear the follow-up: "What exactly, specifically WAS her advice on that energy issue, Senator?"

Or better: What was the energy advice you gave to Senator McCain, Ms Palin?

It also proves that she has no self-respect and is willing to be summarily dismissed by the people who are using her.

Wouldn't any rational, self-respecting person be upset that not only did they not consult her on the decision to withdraw from Michigan - they didn't even TELL her. How degrading.

A very true statement, regarding his misogyny. Surprising how people miss that.

McCain isn't retreating; he's just advancing in a different direction (off a cliff).

user-pic

Ow, poor Sarah....she didn't want to answer Katie's questions because she was "annoyed". It's OK, Sarah - we forgive you and we're sorry we ever thought you were a willfully and gleefully ignorant wacko.

user-pic

Being annoyed at Katie Couric will go over as well as being annoyed with Lassie.

user-pic

Easy for you to say, you didn't live next door to lassie. Damn dog yapping all the time!

So that is why she is so annoying?

My neighbor dozed off in front of his TV, last night. When he woke up, he though that his singing fish was winking at him; it scared the hell out of him. I rushed over to check it out. Turns out it was the debate on his TV, and it was Sarah Trout Mouth doing the winking.

OT: From the front page.

So, she studied her Supreme Court cases.

One thing: she brings up an eminent domain case.

She talks about how precious private property rights are and how she disagreed that the Court sided with the government instead of property owners.

Didn’t she threaten to seize the private land on which she built her Wasilla sports complex via eminent domain?

That's a bad liberal question.

Sorry, Sarah. *wink

user-pic

I'm just not getting any starbursts over here, HyperRevue.

Hey, my winky starbursts never came through!

Were they just on HD or what?

Better get one of them converter boxes.

You forgot "gotcha". It's a bad liberal "gotcha" question. Or is it only a "gotcha" question if it's asked by a voter in a sandwich shop? I'm so confused...

Hmmmmmmmm how about this one?

"Of course Palin wasn't in the loop in discussions of pulling out of Michigan early. If you look at her record on sex education in Alaska, you'll realize she doesn't believe in pulling out early at all."

Why do we even try to talk about her as a real candidate for anything?

I realize that Alaska is detached from the mainland. But did this candidate just crawl out of a hole? She doesn't even seem to know that it's bad for her to admit she knew nothing about the Michigan pull out. I now see why Palin couldn't even answer Couric's throw-away question about her reading material.
