Palin, On Auto-Pilot, Questions Patriotism Of Her Own Supporters

This got some attention late yesterday, but we wanted to flag it here anyway, because it's a fun one. Take a look at Sarah Palin, at a rally, lecturing a bunch of people she took for "hecklers." It's a revealing moment...

Palin's first instinct was to rebuke these "hecklers" by questioning their patriotism, suggesting completely out of the blue that they might be reluctant to show sufficient gratitude towards our veterans. But then her husband gently let her know that these people weren't hecklers at all. They were supporters who were yelling for her to speak louder.

"They just can't hear you back there," Todd told his wife. "That's why they're yelling louder."

Put aside the awful sanctimony on display here. What's interesting is how automatically Palin slipped into playing this culture war grievance card. It's automaton-like -- her default setting. Her eagerness to get on this high-horse is unmistakable -- she seems gratified to have found a target for her faux patriotism, phony outrage and sanctimonious grievance-mongering. Just unbearable.

So it's true that Todd is the brains in the operation.

Scary.

user-pic

Not kissing my ass?

Oh, you must hate the troops, Don'tcha know! [Voice of mother from Bobby's World cartoon...]

user-pic

Its also funny how the crowd would chant louder, then another part of the crowd tries to out chant them by yelling Sarah. Then Sarah bashes the back crowd.... and they are all on the same side. I know Obama's crowds are much bigger but it doesn't seem they have this sort of problem.

user-pic

. It's almost like she's happy or even gratified that she found a target for her faux patriotism, phony outrage and sanctimonious grievance-mongering.

Well duh. What else does she have, besides her bimbo looks and her fuckme pumps? All she has is hate.

user-pic

I think she just gave the crow a perfect example of what to expect if she and McCain do reach the White House. Just shut up and do what you're told. Anyone who speaks up will be vilified.

user-pic

she makes my flesh crawl off my bones.

user-pic

I wonder if she will be reelected. I bet not.

user-pic

The perfect Republican VP, shooting her own supporters in the face.

user-pic

That made me chuckle. Thanks for that.

user-pic

In the words of Nelson Muntz: HA HAAA! Great analysis of this... pretty much an embodiment of what the politics of the last decade has been and a metaphor for what has happened to politics under Bush's administration... How sad.

user-pic

Released a few minutes ago.
GWU/Battleground
Obama 53, McCain 40 (GWU 10/08-09, 10/12-13)

user-pic

We have passed the "possible to steal it" threshold. There is no way - not the way the polls have trended constantly in Obama's favor by larger numbers every day.

No way in hell they can steal this election.

user-pic

They can always, always steal it. Constant vigilance, my friends.

user-pic

O I'm just putting my feet up and forgetting the whole thing, not voting, telling everybody else not to vote...

[rolls eyes]

;)

user-pic

I don't see them on 538.com's pollster ratings. Does anyone have any idea about their track record?

user-pic

The Tarrance Group and Lake Research Partners added The George Washington University as the sponsor of the Battleground Poll. This project is now known as "The George Washington University Battleground Poll" (GWU/Battleground)
The GWU Battleground Poll is a collaborative bi-partisan survey produced by Republican strategist Ed Goeas of The Tarrance Group and Democrat Celinda Lake of Lake Research Partners, two top pollsters from different sides of the aisle.
Initiated in June 1991, the Battleground Polls have gained media recognition as reliable as its data projected the outcome of the 1992, 1996, and 2004 presidential race more precisely than any other similar effort in the country, including those of the major TV networks and national newspapers.
Pollster.com timely includes their polls. I don't know how Net Silver rates them, but he does include them. We all know Nate has been behind the schedule in updating the polls, far behind than Pollster.com.

user-pic

I think its evident that Todd is the brains of the family.

user-pic

Well hell, you could take Todd out and substitute one of my cats, and my cat would be the brains of the family.

Being smarter than Sarah Palin - so easy, even my cat can do it.

user-pic

Well it looked like a big crowd. Once again the McCain people told the media that the crowd size at a rally in Virginia Beach was 25,000 people, but the Convention Center only holds 16,000, and the fire marshal gave an estimate of 12,000.

McCain should just stay in Florida, and campaign there because his organization is so Mickey Mouse.

user-pic

Silly me. I thought the Constitution gave us the right to free speech.

user-pic

Contemptible bitch.

user-pic

Stole the words out of my mouth. Those power wingnuts were victims of Republican on Republican hate.

user-pic

Silly BVD! Rights are for repugs!

user-pic

The best part- when she feels Todd over her shoulder, he whispers to her what's really going on, and in one millisecond she goes from folksy to basically telling Todd "Go fuck yourslef and get away from me, I know what I'm doing."

The contempt in her voice and look when she responded to him was truly striking.

user-pic

It sounded like she said 'Okay, I knew that' or something.

What a total blowoff. She must keep Todd's testicles in her purse.

user-pic

I noticed that, too, and got quite the chuckle out of it.

She was not amused in the least...I'm guessing it was the combined humiliation of doing something so stupid and then being called out on it by her husband.

user-pic

So, who were the MSNBC goofballs oohhing and ahhhing there at the end of that?

user-pic

I noticed that too.

user-pic

Makes you wonder what she wanted to say to all those booing her at hockey game the other night.

user-pic

There's a subtle psychology here, IMO: it's particularly jarring for an attractive woman who uses her looks to get hateful. People may not consciously be aware of why they feel as they do about it but I think it's because there is something in most of us that says: what is she bitching about? She has everything - looks, etc. Why is she being hateful to others? She has the advantages.

user-pic

femme fatale

user-pic

More or less.

Do you remember Anita Bryant? It didn't sit well with anyone really when she went off on hating on homosexuals.

This is where sexism gets dicey - women have to understand that there is no way they can play up their sex and then turn around and try to act like a man. It doesn't work.

user-pic

It's Macbeth in reverse. Todd is Lady Macbeth to Sarah's Macbeth as she loses her shit in the face of the phantom-protesters.

user-pic

Ok...is that auto-avatar the Bard himself? How fitting!

user-pic

Two centuries too late for Shakespeare, darlin.

That default avatar is a/la Addison and Steele and 17th & 18th century coffee houses.

user-pic

Pollster has Florida as "Strongly Obama"

!!!!

user-pic

RCP has moved FL and CO along with VA into leaning Obama as well.

user-pic

I don't really know what their criteria is.

Right now FL is 51.2 - 44.4 (+6.8) for Obama and they have it Dark Blue.

But Wisconsin is 50.4 - 43.6 (+6.8) and it's Light Blue and Maine is 50.7 - 43.2 (+7.5) and it's also Light Blue.

Not really a big deal, but kind of curious.

user-pic

And Wisconsin and Maine are traditionally blue states anyway. So it’s odd that with similar and better margins that FL, they don’t move them to dark blue.

Right now, they have him at 256 "Strong." If they put WI (10 EV) and ME (4 EV) as "Strong," he'd be at 270. Maybe they want to keep some semblance of a race.

user-pic
Regardless of the number of polls, we calculate a "confidence intervals" around the trend estimate based on the average sample size for the available polls in each state. These intervals reflect the uncertainty in the estimate due to random noise in the polling data.

If a race shows a lead that is outside the 95% confidence interval, then we classify this as a "strong" lead. If the lead is between the 68% and 95% confidence intervals, then we classify it as a "lean". If the race is inside the 68% confidence interval, then we classify the race as "too close to call."

Palin is a piece of work

user-pic

To see real videos of real women discussing their reactions to Sarah Palin & the misuse of gender issues in this year's presidential race, please take a look at the following blog:

OT - but what an ugly day - they promised me snow and all I'm getting is cold rain.

user-pic

Any normal person would just say "sorry guys, I thought you were heckling me, I'll try to talk louder".

Then again any normal person would not have done the "you can't be patriotic and disagree with me" line (from the mouth of Bush).

Wow, could her personality flaws be any more evident?

user-pic

I see you caught that too. She had a chance to display some public humility and apologize for the rude comment she made. I suspect her ratings with the crowds will start to drop.

user-pic
Wow, could her personality flaws be any more evident?

She and McCain are certainly bringing out the worst in each other -double the pleasure, double the fun - two of the most fucked up people I've ever seen running the most surreal campaign I've ever seen.

If we didn't have sanity on our side, I'd be looking for that heroin dealer right now. Thank god there are grownups getting ready to step up and lead this country,

user-pic

I think it's time for people to start showing up at her rallies wearing Mike Wooten masks.

user-pic

You get the feeling she's like, "Back off little man, this is MY show now. I let you have your go with fame and fortune in snowmachine racing, when I coulda been a Price is Right girl. Who's yer momma now?!? Huh, huh?!?"

Freakin hysterical!

user-pic

Sarah P. is hoping that if McCain loses this one, she can be Secretary of Hate in the next Republican administration (which should be in about 2050).

user-pic

Auto-Pilot is right.

user-pic

So, now we've got Palin and McLame going after their own supporters. What's next, an Obama endorsement? Couldn't be any screwier!
