Obama Supporters' Tires Slashed

Still more ugliness and hostility on the campaign trail, courtesy of North Carolina's Fayetville Observer:

Someone slashed the tires of at least 30 vehicles parked outside the Crown Coliseum on Sunday during a rally for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, authorities said.

Sheriff's deputies are investigating. The tires were cut while people were inside the Crown Coliseum listening to speeches, said Maj. E. Wright of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office...

Sarah Revis, who lives on Wilkes Road, said the slashed tires left several women, including a single mother and a toddler, stranded and upset. At least four tow trucks were sent to move the vehicles from the Crown, Revis said.

"This is an embarrassment to this city and to me as a citizen," Revis said. "I've seen women out here crying and men cussing. This is a crying shame."

It would require a pretty extensive effort to slash the tires of more than 30 vehicles. Thanks to TPM Reader BP for the catch.

Why aren't the tire slashers in a heap of trouble?

user-pic

It would require a pretty extensive effort to slash the tires of more than 30 vehicles
------

Naw,it would require a well coordinated effort!

The tire slashers are in cahoots with the legal enforcement agency, that's why they are not captured!!

No way would their actions have gone 'unnoticed' at a rally with Secret Service as well as local law enforcement.

This is nothing but the dirty South tactics, where they can do things in broad daylight because the sheriff and his deputies are part of the sanctioning of it, if in no other way than to delineate which areas have the least officers, fewest cameras, or officers on patrol sequenced timing.

This also speaks to why Palin's rallies need to stop and she needs to be charged with a felony. This woman has done nothing but be divisive and polarizing from the moment she stepped onto the stage in St Paul Mn. While it is the role of the VP to be the attack dog. What she is suppose to attack are the political policies not the candidate's character.

Palin is a polarizing figure she is inciting hate and creating the very atmosphere that leads to animosity and violence which is fueled by accepted hate spoken in public.

Lewis was absolutely right. Wallace did not throw a bomb nor shoot a gun but what he did was create an atmosphere of HATE.

Palin is the most awful excuse for a VP nominee ever it goes beyond her lack of curiosity and straight to the way she relishes driving up HATE she is a very divisive figure and she does not speak to the good in America, nor the patriotic..what she is doing is un-AMERICAN.

She is the one spewing hate from small towns, to rural counties to suburbans like Lakeville, MN.

When MN speaks HATE like Gayle did...America has a BIG problem.

Palin is lighting a match to long held racial intolerance that was dormant and she is building it to a fever pitch.

The irony is that she thinks that is 'patriotic'
which just goes to show how completely UNAMERICAN she is.

Someone should force her to comment on those headstones in Arlington with cresents and stars on them!!

Powell was right about the GOP they have become an extremist party and virtual American Taliban type mentality has become their base. The GOP is christofascists.

user-pic

And McCain? You mention Palin. McCain is still defending the "absolute truth" of his inflammatory B.S. robocalls suggesting Obama has a secret terrorist agenda, while he splutters umbrage re: the Lewis statement in the same breath.
The chief seems to be doing more than his bit in the foment of the cro-magnons.
Just how profound is the disconnect here? Or do they really want a return to the rioting of the 60's?
Hell.

user-pic

The Secret Service wouldn't have been there since no candidates were in attendance.

user-pic

Um, sorry to disagree, but I live in Fayetteville and I was at the event Sunday. The area has a lot of side streets leading to the highway in front of the Coloseum, and so many people showed up that a lot of us didn't even try to go in and find a parking place, we just parked in the neighborhoods. The police were too busy just handling the traffic coming to the gates and all the people inside to patrol the side streets also. The cars that were vandelized were parked outside the grounds. I got lucky, either they missed my car or they punched one of my 2 tires that have fix-a-flat already in them from nails I've ran over, lol. The event was huge for this area, the stadium reached capacity and there were about 2000+ more people still outside. That's what gives me hope :)

user-pic

McScum's slash-and-burn strategy (or is it a tactic?) has indeed taken roots, and the infestation is spreading.

user-pic

A clear act of violence. The McCain Brownshirts have arrived.

user-pic

Here's another one admitting to assaulting an Obama canvasser.

user-pic

Slashed tires is just the beginning of what we will see over the next 2 weeks. I'm just hoping it remains at the level of vandalism.

user-pic

Just keep in mind that there are fringe elements on both sides:

A Washington state man pleaded guilty today to first-degree criminal damage to property, becoming the first felony conviction stemming from protest activities related to the Republican National Convention.

Joseph Matthew Robinson, 26, admitted in court that he had slashed the tires on an AirBear charter bus for convention delegates at the Hilton Garden Hotel on 411 Minnesota St. in downtown St. Paul, the Ramsey County attorney's office said.
Both acts should be roundly condemned.

user-pic

Absolutely. Not sayin' were saints over here.

user-pic

Although, I haven't heard any death threats at an Obama rally. Hell Obama doesn't even allow booing of McCain at his rallys. McCain should be taking notes from Obama about civilized discourse.

user-pic

You stupid fuckwits - yeah keep acting like Brownshirts - that's the way to get votes for your ticket.

user-pic

Wow.

Mike Lunsford hung the ghost in his yard. He spoke to us off-camera, saying his views could hurt his employers business ... but he says make no mistake: He doesn't want an African American running the country. Lunsford says he believes Barack Obama is not a "full blooded American." And he says the United States is a white, Christian nation - and only with white Christians should be in power.
At least he's broadcasting it. I hate to think of what people are thinking in secret.

user-pic

You just gotta love these Halloween shenanigans: http://wokv.com/localnews/2008/10/controversial-obamamccain-pict.html

user-pic

Did you even read that? Why the hell would you post an article containing:

"PJM commenters react: "My advice is, go to WalMart and buy a gun. Regardless of who wins this election trouble is going to erupt, particularly in urban areas," "I expect the blacks to riot because of course they are all animals... Big mistake to attack me is all I can say," "If Obama loses, be preparded to defend this country from the radical left leaning liberal socialists... don’t run away, run out and fight them and drop them where they stand," etc."

Despicable

user-pic

Say what?

Jesus, Wallace - "blacks will riot cause they are animals"?

You actually posted that shit? Not attempting to even hide it for purposes of looking civilized, are you?

user-pic

I think today is a very important day here in the TPM comments section. SFCWallace, who heretofore has kept his racism slightly under wraps (it may have seemed just an intense bigotry to those who gave him the benefit of the doubt-though many have already figured him out) has outed himself as a racist of the most obvious sort.

I won't advocate banishment, since I don't believe in that sort of thing. But can't we agree on a collective ignore?

user-pic

That's a bridge too far, for me, anyway. Dissent is healthy, even when it isn't rational. I'll leave it at that--we may just have to disagree on this.

user-pic

How many black and hispanic subordinates did Sarge oppress when they were under his command?

And why is it that our military can produce both a Collin Powell AND SFC Wallace? Seems as if the Civil War is still being fought, and with so many southren "gents" in the upper echelons of the military machine, Sarge Legree should come as no surprise.

The South doesn't need to rise again. It never went away. It has flourished throughout the ages, especially in Washington DC, and in our Supreme Courts and in our US Military.

user-pic

The fraud known as "SFC" has a lot of explaining to do, I think, and it begins with the cowardice and racism shown by the little bitch.

Undoubtedly either some child in early Halloween costume, or a paid troll, somehow something rings so false about any claims he/she/it makes that I am disinclined to accept it on face value.

Really, the only other poster still active here who is so punkish is the self-styled "truthseeker", who wouldn't recognize truth if it bit him on the ass. And even then, the "SFC" is a special case (and I mean that in the "special education" sense of the word), whose combination of churlishness and ignorance is truly the Shakespearean "...tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

And "SFC", if someone's read this to you this far, yes, I'm calling you out as a coward, a liar, a punk, and a fool. You are in fact a pure waste of human DNA. And that's just my positive thoughts about you, bitch.

user-pic

Thanks, you might want to try reading the article yourself (or have an adult read it to you). You'd realize that the claim made above, by seesmithrun, was misleading as to the authorship of those comments.

user-pic

Y'all are insane...I linked to an article in The Village Voice (hardly a right wing media outlet)in their article they listed some comments from some place called pajama media...So because I go to a left wing rag to back up my story (which is required by you guys) and they print a comment from some other site when talking about the story, those comments are attributed to me?

user-pic

I actually didnt get it either SFC.

I read the article and thought "oh wow". But in NO WAY did I think you had written the comments. How could you?

What lead these guys to say that you were behind the comments in a article that you obviously hadnt written(or so I think). And then if yo uscroll down to view the comment section their are only 2 comments their.

So uummm they took comments from some other place, who the hell knows(pajama media) and added it in.

I dont get why people in this thread think you did it.

user-pic
user-pic

Actually, this is pretty funny.

"I didn't see it the way that it's being taken. I never connected," she says. "It was just food to me. It didn't mean anything else."
It's a good think no storm clouds were nearby. This lady was begging for a lightning bolt.

user-pic

And speaking of info from ol' Jake's website, let's not overlook this sophisticated and informative billboard from Missouri:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/10/message-from-th.html

user-pic

OK, help us help you here... I saw that the source was something called "Pajamas Media" (clever title thrown back at the MSM!), and I googled over to see what it's about. But then I find these headlines:

"Joe the Plumber Vetted More Thoroughly Than Obama"

"Gore’s Dangerous Call for Environmental Civil Disobedience"

"Euro-Snobs Slight American Literature"

"Obama’s Meddling Undermines Future U.S.-Iraq Relationship"

You'll forgive my saying that this strikes me as a touch silly.

user-pic

I linked to The Village Voice...they pulled reports from the other places...

user-pic

True colors, my man, true colors.

user-pic

True colors, my man, true colors.

Sad to see. Really. But indicative of what McShame has unleashed, and condoned, even among his less-rancid supporters.

user-pic

G. Wallace,
Now I seriously think you are one of those tire slashers. What's your next plan, Brownshirt? Fire or bomb?

user-pic

You're right. This will be news in NC, and its the kind of thing that energizes Obama supporters, pushes undecideds away from the Repubs, and just deflates any of the less enthusiastic McCain folks.

That's all good news, but I wonder what's next. Red State Democrats, watch your backs.

user-pic

Hey, nice language! It makes you seem big and bad, with a lot of sophistication. I think the last time I read something so eloquent it was written by a high school sophomore.

user-pic

I Hope John McCain is happy now. His rhetoric is tearing this country apart, and he is proud of it. If this carries on, his supporters will stage an American Krystallnacht against 'durned lib-ruls' and their socialist-terrist un-'merikun businesses.

disgusting

user-pic

Maybe if we give the Republicans some more practice losing over the next few decades, they'll learn to do it more gracefully.

user-pic

Excellent idea. I recall when our son was in elementary school, playing nightly board games with him at a certain point... so he would understand you win some and lose some... Some parents apparently failed to teach certain lessons.

user-pic

I personally hold McCain and Palin for these deplorable attacks. McCain's supporters(Anglo-Saxon, federalist, bigoted conservatives) are full aggression, hate and rage.

user-pic

Nice work, Johnny and Sarah! This is what happens when you portray your political opponents as un-american terrorist sympathizers, you hate-mongering bottom feeders.

user-pic

You betcha! Yup yup!

user-pic

Practice run for election day. . . . If you can't drive to the polls, you can't vote.

user-pic

I personally hold McCain and Palin responsible for these deplorable attacks. McCain's supporters(Anglo-Saxon, federalist, bigoted conservatives) are full of aggression, hate and rage.

user-pic

I knew we had North Carolina won when some halfwit stole the Obama '08 bumpersticker I had on my rear window a few weeks ago. Its just a mark of how furiously impotent they feel, and, like their candidate, they act out.

user-pic

That's right - they're losing and they can't stand it.

user-pic

Btw, the genius who stole my sticker was apparently unaware that I had spares in my glove compartment. Unlike some of our fellow travellers here, I've been dealing with the kind of hilarious hijinks those irrepressible scamps in the Republican Party get up to in the last month of a campaign since I met my first Reagan Jugend, er, College Republican in the early eighties.

user-pic

Every time I start to feel angry, I just remind myself that these bottom dwellers react this way because they know we're winning.

And they Can't. Stand. It.

Tire slashing? Crying about early voting?

That's the whine of the impotent.

They can have a tissue from me. But not much else. :)

user-pic

Sooo what do you think their October surprise will be?

user-pic

Truth is, this floats in both directions. A big (about king size sheet) McCain sign that flaps over Mulholland in L.A. is slashed regularly.
All nonsense.
A portent of things to come, all the same.

user-pic

Fact is, there is a difference between vandalizing a political sign and vandalizing someone's motor vehicle. The latter is vastly more personal and, therefore, ugly. You pose a false equivalency.

user-pic

Oh, give me a break! They have to trespass to slash the sign.

user-pic

What pathetic little cowards, repugs are. Typical spineless KKK behaviour.

user-pic

Holy crap. What kind of "legs" is this story going to have?

Palling around with terrorists, eh Sarah? Okay to say that, eh Johnny? Robocalls okay too?

Whoa...

user-pic

How tolerant, loving, caring and compassionate to those who have views different than yours.

They think freedom is good for those who only have their beliefs. Same goes for their bi-partisan claims, if you side with us and believe what we believe, you are bi-partisan.

Good luck in the future getting anyone to want to join your party. Just keep reproducing, that is your only hope to get more voters...

user-pic

I share your view, absolutely. Bipartisan or consensus does not exist.

user-pic

This is getting pretty sad. Republicans must really be pissed there about to lose. You can thank McCain/Palin for the rhetoric that they use. I wouldnt be surprised if fights broke out during election night.

user-pic

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that all the tire stores in town are run by repugs and for some strange reason they have to special order those replacement tires at an additional cost.

user-pic

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that all the tire stores in town are run by repugs and for some strange reason they have to special order those replacement tires at an additional cost.

user-pic

Naw, they're gonna give 'em away free... plus $350 each s/h.

user-pic

I'd like to donate some funds to those people who have to buy new tires. There needs to be security set up in the parking lots to avoid further destructive acts against Obama supporters. No telling what they will do next. I hope they find these people and arrest their hateful asses. The Democrats should offer a reward for any information that leads to arrest.

user-pic

If local police have to start guarding parking lots, these folks who slash tires are only raising their own taxes. That point needs to be driven home. That repub dirty tricks lead to higher taxes due to increased police work.

user-pic

This only happened because tires are black.

user-pic

Damn!  I miss whitewalls!  Whatever happened to them?

user-pic

And they wear rubbers!

user-pic

This is the kind of backward "tough" stuff being promoted by the incendiary McCain/Palin operation.
Jesus. We know this is just the beginning.
Pathetic.

user-pic

I wrote earlier on another thread, did you hear McCain upon being asked about calming these thugs of his, instead talks about how "proud" he is of their coming to his rallies.

Proud?

user-pic

And McCain is still complaining about Rep. Lewis' very appropriate comments... He still wants Senator Obama to repudiate that?

He really doesn't get it.

Well let's just do more to get out the vote and get these ignorant people out of power!

user-pic

People -- don't let these swine freak you out.

Your comeback,or vengeance if you will, to this shit is -- McCain is going to lose.

Don't argue with them. Don't even try to persuade them. There's no point.

The most cruel thing you can say to them -- McCain is going to lose.

Be like Fonzie/Barack. Be cool. Say it: "It doesn't matter, because McCain is going to lose."

user-pic

You know, I can't agree. In civil society, people need to feel that if they are going to a campaign rally, it is indecent to slash tires. So no one would slash and no one would fear getting slashed. Or fear worse.

If people don't get that, we've got a problem.

user-pic

Of course it's indecent. The fuckers who did this should get locked up like any vandal.

My point is, how do we react? With fear and shrieking?

Here's how we react. We give the swine a president they don't deserve. We give them four/eight years to realize that this Obama guy isn't so bad after all.

user-pic
People -- don't let these swine freak you out.

Right on!  Don't let the bastards grind ya down!

user-pic

You know, the fucker has been warned, too.

These are your apes and you need to tame them, Johnny. And he instead is just "proud" of them, as he waxes.

So what does he say now? I know you warned me several times? But you have to understand that even though we incite these people at every rally, this is actually unrelated? And there's always a few bad apples? So don't pay attention?

Is that what he says now? That?

user-pic

What, no cross burning and/or lynching? The McShamiacs are falling down on the job!

user-pic

This is equivalent to "cross burning and lynching." Every generation has its own version.

user-pic

This is equivalent to "cross burning and lynching."

Cross-burning, maybe. Lynching, absolutely not.

user-pic

Was it equivalent to "cross burning and lynching" 4 years ago, or just now?
http://www.courttv.com/trials/omokunde/011806_ctv.html

user-pic

On behalf of the SANE white people in NC, I can only say how sorry I am for such outrageous behavior. This is a very pro-military area and some folks there are blind anything other than the war in Irag and only believe what Republicans say on those issue. Too bad since Obama clearly cares much more about bringing their husbands/wives home and giving them decent benefits when they come home. Other than the military base, there also are alot of older white people as many young people are leaving the are. This is generally a part of the state where it will be the hardest for Obama to get more than 25% of the white vote. Fortunately, we do have the Triangle area...and that is increasingly pro-Obama.

user-pic

Thank you for offering your feelings and incites. I don't see it so much as a regional thing, though I take your point about the military base.

The McCain thugs of whom he's so proud act the same way approximately in Penna. and Ohio.

Speakiing of which, oh no, I see beckyleeprice's sad comments now.

We do owe it to these damfools to give them a black President. We obviously owe it to Obama to give him the Secret Service protection he'll need.

Keep the faith, Redhead

user-pic

par for the course for McCain supporters...here's a post from a Northern Virginai blog yesterday by a friend:

"I am kind of upset right now. I just got home from a great Halloween party and we had a disturbing experience on our drive home. We were on the beltway (Rte 495) driving along minding our own business. A car came up on my left and I heard the horn honk, so naturally I glanced over in that direction. I saw an older woman--like my mom's age--holding up a McCain-Palin sticker in the passenger-side window and pointing at me ( I have an Obama sticker on my car). I was surprised and just gave her an odd look, but she just kept pointing and holding up the sticker, so I mouthed "great, who cares" and then sped up to get away from these nuts.

Then, the driver (her husband, I suppose) speeds up and starts tailgaiting me and weaving in and out of traffic trying to catch up to me. I managed to keep him behind me for a while because traffic was pretty heavy, but finally he got up on my right and screamed "F*CK YOU", before he finally exited.

I just could not believe this craziness. It made me so upset. I had MY CHILD in the car on THE BELTWAY. What the hell is wrong with people? I would never in a million years think of doing something like that. Just because I am voting for a different guy than they are, they decide to accost me on the highway and put my life and my child's (not to mention, I'm pregnant) at risk. People are CRAZY!!!!!"

Scary...

user-pic

What happened to you VAforBO, is reprehensible. Those two vicious idiots who followed you didn't have the capacity to even stop and think that you might have children in the car with you and that they were endangering everyone on that road.

The racism and divisiveness that McCain/Palin are fostering is getting uglier by the day. I really wish that this election was already over so these incidents can now be a part of the past.

It will be tough but I know without a doubt that things will be better when Barack Obama is our new president.

user-pic

Wow, VAforBO - I had an almost identical incident happen Friday on the Beltway. Only it was an elderly man with West Virginia plates driving an older model Lincoln Continentel (a boat) - he was in the fast lane, during rush hour - honking at me, I looked over and he was mouthing something and very animated - then he sped past me - he had a "W" bumper sticker on his boat. Then he started slowing down, rolled his window down and was leaning over and shouting at me - all from the fast lane...it was pretty scary.

Anyone that drives the Beltway (in D.C.) knows you really have to pay attention...I went home and told my roommate about it and he asked if I rolled my window down to hear him...I told him no, I could figure it out when I saw the "W" on his bumper and the anger on his face...he was enraged over my Obama sticker and my ACLU sticker!

McCain & Palin are going to rot in hell for this...

user-pic

Appalling just appalling. I am sure McCain must be so proud. I believe McCain supporters are representative of who McCain is

user-pic

That black girl Shadera Hicks is hot. I don't know. Just felt inclined to point that out.

user-pic

Fight back with surveillance. Volunteers should cover Obama rallies inside and out with video cameras. Catch some of these lynching mooks in the act.

user-pic

As a resident of western PA I am dealing with racism on a daily basis, not right here in the city of Pittsburgh, at least not in my neighborhood, but drive more than 5 miles in any direction and it's thick on the ground. Governor Rendell tried to tell the democrats that PA probably wouldn't vote for a black candidate when he worked for Hillary during the primary and we didn't want to hear it. Just last week poor congressman Murtha was forced to apologize for saying the same thing, even though he only spoke the truth.

We have been housing Obama staffers in our home since April and they have been spat on, screamed at, and called "Nigger!" This weekend the latest one had a dog set on him and got a bad bite before the homeowner slammed the door in his face. Did I mention that these idealistic kids are all young, white college boys?

I don't think folks needed much fomenting here in my corner of Pennsylvania, but it seems like the kind of campaign McCain and Palin are running is giving people permission to let their "inner racist" out.

user-pic

Painful to read, BeckyLeePrice. This stuff is seen on newseels from 50s up to mid-60s.

I was out there in Western Pa. many years ago and I can imagine what you are going through.

There was a misleading headline on TPM here, that Palin condemened this. They ain't condemned nothing -- she said that she never heard such things but if they somehow would be said, they would be bad things to say.

They are still inciting.

user-pic

John McCain approves this message.

So are the Republicans palling around with terrorists now?
