Obama Plays Hothead Card
Obama, in response to McCain's criticism of his declaration that he'd pursue Bin Laden into Pakistan, plays the hothead card by pointing to the "bomb bomb bomb Iran" moment, in what seemed like a response Obama had prepared in advance:
Now, Senator suggests that somehow I'm green behind the ears, and I'm just spouting off, and he's somber and responsible.Senator McCain, this is the guy who sang "bomb bomb bomb Iran." Who called for the annihilation of North Korea. That I don't think is an example of speaking softly. This is the guy who after we had -- we hadn't even finished Afghanistan -- he said, "next up Baghdad."

Israel is home of very important Muslim holy sites, why the hell would Iran nuke Israel. They wouldn't gain anything out of it, they know if it happen then they would die in the counterattack and they don't want to blow up holy sites. What Iran's more extremist group wants is the people in Israel to leave the area and have Muslim's in control of the land. Blow Israel off the map = Israel the country not Israel the land.

C-SPAN is still rolling. Barack and Michelle are still in the studio talking with the voters and shaking hands. It's now 10:50. John McCain took off a good 15 minutes ago. Whatever he may have done during the debate, he lost it with this group. Now they're taking group photos with Obama.

On the hothead issue, and the vileness of the recent McCain dive into the hog wallow,,, from Andrew Sullivan:
An Israeli reader writes:
Your post on "The Danger of Obama" immediately brought to mind what happened here in Israel in the period leading up to Yitzhak Rabin's assassination. Even allowing for the differences in political culture between the two countries, some of the sounds we're hearing in the public debate around the election have a haunting echo. Here no one would have thought it possible that an Israeli Jew would take the life of a high official. There's little doubt that the crescendo of demonization toward Rabin – including accusations of treason, flyers picturing Rabin as an SS officer – and the difficulty, in a society guaranteeing free speech, of 'civilizing' the public debate before it creates a fertile bed for actual violence, all helped create the context in which Rabin's murderer decided to take matters into his own hands.
I'd like to see which Republicans will denounce this turn towards demonization. And if there are no takers – maybe Joe Lieberman?

Question: did anyone see McCain refuse to shake Obama's hand? I could swear that was what happened and a few other people I was talking with saw it too, but none of the talking heads are mentioning it on TV. Did y'all see that or did I just misconstrue it?
Because if I wasn't hallucinating, that plus calling Obama "that one" smacks of the worst kind of racism imaginable.

He moved away from Obama, but I really do not think that he saw Obama going for the handshake. McCain would not be so politically dumb as to recoil from a handshake.

10.33 pm. This was, I think, a mauling: a devastating and possibly electorally fatal debate for McCain. Even on Russia, he sounded a little out of it. I've watched a lot of debates and participated in many. I love debate and was trained as a boy in the British system to be a debater. I debated dozens of times at Oxofrd. All I can say is that, simply on terms of substance, clarity, empathy, style and authority, this has not just been an Obama victory. It has been a wipe-out.It has been about as big a wipe-out as I can remember in a presidential debate. It reminds me of the 1992 Clinton-Perot-Bush debate. I don't really see how the McCain campaign survives this.

Politico Wire:
The Second Presidential Debate
Tonight's debate wasn't even close. Sen. Barack Obama ran away with it -- particularly when speaking about the economy and health care. Talking about his mother's death from cancer was very powerful. On nearly every issue, Obama was more substantive, showed more compassion and was more presidential.
In contrast, Sen. John McCain was extremely erratic. Sometimes he was too aggressive (referring to Obama as "that one.") Other times, he just couldn't answer the question (on how he would ask Americans to sacrifice.) And his random attempts at jokes (hair transplants?) were just bad.

Josh has been asking about the non-handshake after the debate ended. But NBC ended their coverage with a replay of the handshake that occurred just before Brokaw asked Obama and McCain to get out of the way so he could read his teleprompter.
The video Josh has up reflects what occurred later. I got the sense that McCain is jokingly telling Obama, "we already shook hands," so Obama shakes Cindy's.
In other words, tempest in a teapot.
Beyond all that -- McCain should get used to addressing his rival as President.
