Obama Campaign Launches Pre-emptive Ad Strike Against McCain's Planned Character Assault

The Obama campaign just released a very tough ad hitting John McCain in advance for the barrage of adver-sleazements and attacks on Obama's character that the McCain team is readying:

The spot features that quote we highlighted here yesterday -- in which a McCain adviser admitted to The Washington Post that his campaign is "looking forward to turning the page on this financial crisis" and getting back to attacking Obama as too liberal and too "risky."

The ad opens with bad news about job losses and the financial meltdown, then hits him as "erratic in a crisis" and "out of touch."

"No wonder his campaign wants to change the subject -- turn the page on the financial crisis, by launching dishonest, dishonorable assaults against Barack Obama," the ad says. "Struggling families can't turn the page on this economy."

That "turning the page" quote really was a gift -- the perfect counter-weapon against the coming character assault. The ad will run on national cable -- though that's presumably subject to change -- suggesting that the immediate target audience is opinion-makers and political insiders who might be wondering what Obama is doing about the tidal wave of sleaze on the horizon.

The Impulsively Unreflective Duo In..."McCain Goes Negative"

McCain paces the floor in the Fortress of Irritability. He is cracking walnuts.

A walnut slips to the floor.

McCain: Damn nutcracker!

Sarah Palin is sitting in a chair at a desk. She is writing on a piece of paper: "J.M + S.P." This is then crossed out and replaced by "S.P. + J.M.". These alternating versions , the one before it always crossed out, continues down the page.

McCain: Well, the first plan didn't work. We tried to put them in a trance with the folksy ray, but they had their deflectors halfway raised. If only you hadn't called the commander in Afghanistan ""McClellan"

Palin: But...didn't you say they were fighting a civil war, Sir?

McCain stops pacing, looks at Palin silently. He is smiling through tight lips but he is holding back anger.

McCain: "I think the time has come. We have to call in...Dr. Negative."

He pushes a large black button which is the only button on a red phone on his desk.

Dr. Negative immediately bursts through the door. He is carrying flyers, masking tape; telephone wires are wrapped around his arms hanging in every way; a tattered copy of the book "Accusations of Communism, Polygamy, Drug Use, Spousal Abuse, Fascism, Pedophilia, Miscegenation, Cannibalism, Terrorism and Adultery...for Dummies!" is rolled and stuffed in his left pocket, filled with bookmarks; he is dragging a Robocaller behind him, leashed to a chain.

Dr. Negative (quickly, eagerly): Did you hear? Obama was born in Bin Laden's subterranean bomb making factory, outside of U.S. lines. He was born on a pile of cocaine and dynamite--and the midwife was a Trotskyite!

McCain: Not yet, Dr. Negative. I want you to meet Sarah.

Sarah: Oh, we've already met.

Dr. Negative: That trooper went down! He poisoned the salmon milk at the Wasilla Bible school! With drugs made at a Leftist Satan worshiping collective! That you could see from Russia!

Sarah: You betcha'!

Sarah and Dr. Negative give each other a high five. Dr. Negative's telephone wires rattle on his arm as he does so, triggering the Robocaller, which starts playing "...illegitimate babies made in test tube factories in North Korea and sent to Chicago by Bill Ayers..."

Dr. Negative shuts off the Robocaller with an embarassed smile.

Dr. Negative: Just practicing.

There is a pause.

McCain: That's fine, Dr. Negative. That's fine. Because, now, I have a special job for you. An important one.

Dr. Negative leaps into the air with excited glee. As he does, detritus falls to the floor--buttons saying "Election Day: Remember, the 3rd Tuesday in November!", business cards, reading "Push Polls Anonymous--We Call, They Fall", "Mongers On Call-No Rumor Too Far fetched"; Bandaids with purple hearts; mangled and dirty chads.

Dr. Negative: A new job! A special job! Oh, Mr. McCain! I'm ready! I'm ready!

Sarah watches from her chair, filing her nails.

McCain: Now, Dr. Negative. You have to make him seem radical...

Dr. Negative quickly pulls a can out of his right pocket, emblazoned with the word "Radical" He opens the top. Red and Black snakes fly out.

Dr. Negative: (eagerly, expectantly, hungrily) Yes...Yes...

McCain: You'll have to start rumors that are so inflammatory that they will spread like wildfire and will be started too late to stop them with the actual truth...

Dr. Negative pulls a gigantic grinder out of his left pocket. It is labeled "Rumor Mill". He turns the crank a few times. Hamsters, syringes, and Peace symbols fly out.

Dr. Negative: Yes...Yes...

He is salivating.

McCain: They will have to be so incredible, over-the-top, based on such tawdry and poorly sourced evidence, yet riddled with tempting minutia--bullet gauges, Google maps of supposed meetings and the like, that the right will eat them up, and start analyzing the minutia with adolescent glee.

Dr. Negative (Very calmly, matter of fact): Oh, that's easy. They'll eat anything.

Dr. Negative reaches into his back pocket, pulls out a manila envelope labeled "Minutia: So-called "Proof" for the Right". He empties it to the floor. Bullet gauge measures, outdated copies of Photoshop, paperbacks entitled "How to Use the Insane as Competent Witness", "The Faked Moon Landings! Roswell! And Other Believable Phenomena!" and "You TOO Can Be A Warrior--From Your Own Couch!" fall to the floor.

Sarah plucks out the "Faked Moon Landings" book. She starts reading.

McCain: We know how our girl loves to read.

Sarah stops, and begins fixing her hair in a hand mirror.

McCain: Now, Dr. Negative, there is one final task.

Dr. Negative: Yes, Mr. McCain?

McCain: It is very difficult. Very...dark.

Dr. Negative: (Leaning forward expectantly, his voice quivering with excitement): Yes, Mr. McCain, Yes?

McCain: You will have to play the card that they played against me. Do you understand?

The room becomes silent. Sarah stops looking at herself, and looks towards the center of the room where McCain and Dr. Negative are staring at each other.

Dr. Negative: You mean...(eyes widened with disbelief. His telephone wires are quietly shaking as he shivers).

McCain (nodding): Yes.

Dr. Negative slowly removes from his jacket pocket what seems to be an ordinary pack of playing cards. They are labeled "Joker" brand. He takes a penknife from his pocket, and slowly slices the covering cellophane. There is a slight and distant roar. He looks at McCain.

McCain nods.

Dr. Negative then slowly removes the red ribbon encircling the cellophane at the top of the pack. He inserts the penknife--holding it from it very farthest end--and flips open the top of the pack.

Smoke begins to pour from the top of the pack, thick, acrid smoke. It quickly fills the room, covering all that is in sight.

McCain (shouting amidst the sound of smoke rushing into the room): And remember--no fingerprints!

Next episode: The smoke is cleared.

Good pre-emptive ad. Although eratic is not the term I would have used. Psychotic perhaps?

Erratic's fine. It's not what you'd call a Presidential quality. And it fits him.

Head of State:

You crack me up everytime I see one of your posts!

I usually just scroll right by them, but today's was so long it pissed me off.

Just post a link like everyone else does.

Especially given the less than high-quality of the content.

This is a political gut shot. With one ad, he's neutralized McCain's attack. I'm not sure what McCain does now, but if it's ANYTHING other than talking about the issues, he's conceding defeat.

He's also conceding defeat if he talks about the issues.

He's pretty much screwed.

I've complained to the mods about him a couple of times now. (talk@talkingpointsmemo.com)... They told me he would be reprimanded, but not banned. Well he's still at it.....

i like that he used "dishonorable" in the ad.

i told my wife the other night, i'm hoping that obama can slip in a few "dishonors" and "dishonorables" under the radar on tuesday night. mccain will catch it and it will set him off. i honestly think that's the one button that you can push with mccain that he can't resist blowing up over -- hitting his honor (or lack thereof).

Dishonorable is true and right.

They are a putting out ads photoshopped to make Obama look dark-skinned and menacing, and calling him a black child molester (hint: of white kinds) and as of yesterday, "palling around with terrorists." If that isn't dishonorable, what is?

I'd also like to see him use "Unamerican" like he did before with regards to economic issues. Time we neutralized that term.

I agree with that. It is also Un-American to big an utter incompetent as Veep.

Sorry, "pick"

user-pic

How about neutralizing 'liberal.' Republicans have been campaigning against liberals and for a one-party (Republican) state for years - just like any proper champions of totalitarianism - so let's us liberals start calling them totalitarians.

also, what happened to palin railing against obama/biden "living in the past," "focusing on the past," etc., and how we should only talk about the future?

user-pic

I like that: Quote her from the dbate accusing Biden of staying in the past -- whatever her words -- directly followed by McSame ads/statements based upon the past.

I like the idea of a preemptive ad. It will help neutralize some of the effect of the upcoming sleaze and it also neutralizes the potential "Obama is weak" charges for his lack of a response.

His campaign really seems to get it. The Clinton doctrine of leaving no attack unanswered is flawed. When your opponent literally tells 5 new lies a day, you can't possibly answer them all.

Obama hit back hard after the Republican convention. He reminded everyone that he was tough. That's all people needed to see. Then he moved on to talk about issues that people are actually concerned with.

Excellent ad! The financial advantage is coming in to clear view now. Next up, the devastating ground game!

Speaking of which, everyone on this site should be signed up over at BarackObama.com. You can make phone calls to battleground states from the comfort of your own home.

This is important work. No excuses! 25 calls takes about 35 minutes (lots of answering machines and disconnected numbers.)

This is how the campaign finds out the people they need to target with mailers, door knocking, etc.

You can even call Ohio now which is cool since they are doing early voting.

It's such a relief to be dealing with a candidate who's smart, plans ahead, and appears unflappable! McCain can continue to be a tantruming brat, but Obama's playing a very nice game of chess here. Go for it!!

P.S. to Head of State guy: it is possible to scroll right past your blogs, but they take up a lot of room that is not on topic (ever), and it's rude. Rude isn't good when it happens every time, every day.

I was thinking the same thing. Whoever Head of State is, s/he doesn't understand that his or her efforts are counter-productive.

Dispatch Poll: Obama opens lead on McCain
Early voting makes pre-Nov. 4 standings more important
Sunday, October 5, 2008 6:10 AM
By Darrel Rowland

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Amid growing concerns about the economy, Ohio Democrats are coming home to Sen. Barack Obama, giving him a 7-point advantage in a new Dispatch Poll as the volatile presidential campaign swings into its final month.

The Illinois senator's lead of 49 percent to 42 percent over Republican Sen. John McCain comes at an especially opportune time for Obama because thousands of Ohioans already are casting ballots in the state's first presidential election allowing any registered voter to vote absentee. The new setup takes away some of the heft from the adage "the only poll that counts is the one on Election Day."

Ohio is even more critical to McCain's campaign this year since he pulled out of Michigan last week. Not only has no Republican ever won the presidency without carrying the Buckeye State, McCain almost has to run the 2004 electoral table to win, carrying every single state President Bush won four years ago, including Ohio.

The Arizona senator is scheduled to appear in Cleveland on Wednesday, while Obama plans a two-day bus trip across Ohio this week.

Although both are attempting to persuade voters that they would bring about the change America needs, the survey shows that Ohioans are buying that message more from Obama, by a margin of 10 percentage points.

"It is not only a matter of change, but change for the better, and Obama has the better chance of securing that change," said poll participant Graig E. Kluge, 36, a Cleveland Heights real-estate investment manager.

"John McCain voted with Bush 90 percent of the time in 2007-08 and at least 70 percent before that. McCain will not push for the change that is needed for this country -- he is going to be much like Bush."

When respondents were asked to compare the vice presidential qualifications of the two running mates, Democrat Joe Biden was an easy winner over Republican Sarah Palin -- although virtually all the responses came before Thursday night's debate between the Delaware senator and Alaska governor. Biden was deemed more qualified by 55 percent, Palin by 35 percent.

"Their qualifications are worlds apart," said Bruce Tromp, 42, a software engineer from Springboro, near Cincinnati. "Biden has years of experience and is a skilled politician. Palin doesn't even seem to understand the issues, let alone be able to form an intelligent opinion on them."

The poll of 2,262 likely Ohio voters was conducted Sept. 24 through Friday, a period that spanned the first presidential debate and the vice presidential matchup, as well as Washington's response to the Wall Street meltdown. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 2 percentage points, meaning Obama's actual lead could range from 5 points to 11 points.

Obama has committed more resources to Ohio and Florida than any other states, and it's showing in his substantial TV ad buys, the widespread push to get early voters to the polls, and a ground game entrenched in places that Democrats seldom win.

McCain's best hope might stem from the fact that Ohio traditionally leans toward the GOP and more moderate candidates, and the state party has one of the best organizations in the country. However, the Dispatch Poll shows a playing field that currently holds 10 percent more self-identified Democrats than Republicans.

In the first Dispatch Poll on the general election, McCain held a 1-point lead. In that survey, just before the parties' national conventions, Obama was struggling to gain the support of Democrats and those who had voted for Sen. Hillary Clinton in the March primary and for Gov. Ted Strickland in 2006.

Obama has made progress on all those fronts. For example, he had the backing of only half of Clinton's supporters in August; now he has support from two-thirds. And Obama's percentage among Democrats has increased by 10 points.

Respondent Craig Holderby is one Clinton backer who now is solidly behind Obama.

The 53-year-old chemical technician from Hilliard said he likes Obama's "fresh ideas," his youth and energy, and his lack of connections to big corporations or lobbyists.

"John McCain has turned into the right-wing neo-con that is willing to do or say anything to become president. He was a much better person (in) 2000 and before," Holderby said.

But it's not difficult to find McCain supporters -- and Obama detractors -- among those taking part in the poll.

"McCain is easily the best qualified," said Jack Wood, 44, a manager from Bexley. "His experience speaks for itself, and he has a history of bipartisanship, cooperation. He's demonstrated a willingness to compromise with Democrats on many issues and that gets things done."

Wood added, "Obama is greatly inexperienced and is a polarizing figure. He claims he'll be a uniter, but he has the most liberal Senate voting record in an unpopular partisan Congress."

Tracy Clyburn, 42, a medical transcriptionist from Amelia, east of Cincinnati, said, "I don't feel that Barack is a 'true American.' I don't believe that Barack has as much concern for out country as does McCain. It seems like he is in it for the fame. I really don't feel he has the experience to lead our country."

Robert Neeley Sr., 73, of Fairfield in southwestern Ohio, retired from the U.S. Air Force, goes even further.

"He is anti-American and his disrespect to our flag and our Bible proves it. He is a Muslim because his name and his beliefs show it. He is for everything that a Christian is against.

"I don't believe that he was actually born in the U.S. He has a lot of bad baggage."

Yet another instance of "Look at ME!" rudeness.

I agree with the many, this is so wonderful: a crowd not willing to be Swift-Boated by some unworthy swine. "Breath of fresh air" does not remotely begin to capture it.

A little story from Pa.

The Monroe County Elections Office already has 14,000 more voters registered compared to the last presidential election.

This year, more students have decided that their votes do count.

Over at the voter registration office they 1.300 registrations came from ESU. That's more than they've ever seen from the university.

http://www.wnep.com/Global/story.asp?S=9107692&nav=5Ka4

This *has* to be good news there locally, and I betcha it's repeated elsewhere. Imagine an intelligent, sincere student voting for a ticket with *SARAH PALIN* on it. Tough to picture it.

There is the "really drunk frat boys for Palin" demographic.

I sit corrected, Sir!

I believe that demographic is still in middle school.

This is a start but Obama will have to do more. Constant attacks by McCain will drown out Obama's message. Look at the media coverage that Palin's comment on Ayers has gotten. Attack ads work, defensive ads don't. Obama will have to do more than just trust in that people will see the attacks for what they are.

Nothing defensive about this ad. And I hope to G-d that McCain keeps going negative and not talking about the issues. He may lose Arizona in that event....

It is a defensive ad. Sure it attacks McCain, but it attacks McCain for attacking Obama. This is politics. People are not going to be surprised that McCain is attacking Obama. Obama hopes that they will be mad, but they wont be surprised. The problem for Obama is that the attack gets the attention not the response. McCain attacks Obama on Ayers the story of the day becomes Ayers. McCain attacks Obama on Rezko the story of the day becomes Rezko. Even if the coverage of the attacks is negative towards McCain he has essentially won because the subject has been changed.

I can't see the ad where I am sitting, and let's say your analytical tool is the right one. Saying McCain is "erratic in a crisis" is not a defensive remark, period. If the point would be that such things need more emphasis, I would agree.

Um, there is no attack yet from McCain. It's a PREEMPTIVE strike. In effect he has neutralized the pending attack. And while it may not surprise voters, it will FRAME the pending attacks in a way that is beneficial to Obama and detrimental to McCain who desperately needs to change the topic.

But if you think that's being "defensive", my guess is that McCain wishes his campaign could be this defensive.

Well then, what do you suggest he does? Based on your post, nothing will work....whether he responds or not, McCain has "changed the subject".

There isn't a anything Obama can do but what he is doing. He could go on the attack himself by bring up Keating and all that, but that too plays into McCain's hands. Every election season the media reports that people are finally getting sick of negatives ads, that they have lost their effectiveness, but in the end those stories turn out to be wrong. Maybe this year is different.

Can you think of a year when the proponent of the negative ads admitted that they want to talk about anything other than the current economic crises? That they are trying to change the subject to anything OTHER than the issues? I haven't. Folks may have thought it before, but we have it come straight from the horse's mouth here. I think that's the difference this year and will be the frame in which all of McCain's subsequent attacks are viewed.

All I know is that there is a lot of cursing in Sedona right now. And I hope someone at least emails this one to Palin....

I guess I overestimated the Oabma campaign. Bringing up Keating is a loss in the end for them.

Well, the Repub attack machine is all-powerful, there is nothing a Dem can do but succumb to it withering onslaught. We're doomed, doomed I tell ya.

I agree. It's over now that McCain has chosen to bring up Ayers and Wright. I think Obama just needs to pack it up and slink back to Chicago.

Like, run a national ad quoting an advisor that this is a deliberate attempt to turn the page on the economy that's released right before McCain's sleaze surge starts?

That's crazy talk.

I was thinking today, picture three aspects in a person:

* Intelligent

* Truly patriotic

* Votes for a ticket with Sarah Palin on it.

One of them's gotta be wrong, right? Can't have all three as I see it.

user-pic

New stuff:

1. The New Minnesota Star Tribune poll has Obama up 55% to 37%.

2. Colin Powell may be endorsing Obama soon but was personally called by President Bush to hold off according to the SFgate. I suspect if Powell continues to see McCain's dishonorable sleazy campaign in the coming weeks that he will come out and endorse Obama. He will probably say enough is enough.

3. Palin said something STUPID: "There's a place in hell reserved for women who don't support other women."

That hell comment by Palin is actually a quote from Madeleine Albright.

The actual quote is "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't help other women."

Palin's an idiot. drinking Starbucks? What an elitist.

She surely eats sushi, too -- made from killer whales!

Tough to imagine that would-be phone call from Bush to Powell. Why would Powell entertain such a suggestion? Last time he did something self-destructive that Bush wanted he was up at the U.N. tossing his integrity down the U.N. toilet bowl. He didn't learn nothin' from that?

If Bush asked him this, he should have replied that it did not seem to be a request within any bounds of propriety and that his political voice was his own.

I'd rather Powell didn't endorse Obama.

Brilliant! Keep it up! Obama/Biden 08.

Great ad! However, if i were the Obama campaign i would play of the term 'out of touch' What the Obama team should do is compile a series of embarrassing McCain moments on the economy and foreign policy while playing Hal and Out's 80s hit ' Out of Touch.'

Last time the Obama put 80s references in their ad it didn't go down too well.

Less serious ads are not people's cup of tea right now, they want to see someone who takes their problems seriously.

I presume you mean Hall and Oates.

user-pic

I think that this is a solid ad. Given Palin's really scurillous attacks on Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers, I have one question:

WHY WON'T ANYONE SAY KEATING FIVE?????

Because it shifts the focus from the current economic crisis and the issues confronting the American people. The only person/campaign that wants to talk about anything other than issues would be HAPPY if Obama responded in kind. That's why you won't see a push on T. Palin's membership in the AIP. Take their energy and use it against them to your advantage. They telegraphed their move which underscores just how out of sorts they are in Arlington.

Seems like some insightful shit there...

Nice. You're right.

EXACTLY. In fact they were (laugably) hoping Obama would be stupid enough to help them change them subject by responding in kind- instead, they are the ones who are so dumb that they leaked that priceless quote about going negative, which will help Obama neutralize any attacks. I'm very impressed that they picked up on that and used it in an ad so quickly. President Kerry would be running for re-election this year if he'd run a campaign half this smart.

And it will put negative focus on John Glenn, and Obama and Biden went out of their way to praise him on a stop in Ohio.

Todd Palin once belonged to the Alaskan Independence Party, Now, how will the Avon lady handle the AIP story?

No one from the Obama team is going to be talking about either Palin because they are irrelevant. Blog away about it, but I'm pretty confident the Obama team is going to keep it's foot on McCain's throat for the next 30 days.

Can anyone imagine/write McCain's talking point response to this ad? What exactly can they say? The more I think about this, the more effective this ad truly is. There is literally nothing they can say in response.

Yup. Leaking that "turning the page" quote was yet another serious unforced error by the McLame campaign, and now they're really in a box.

Well, it's more like there's nothing *intelligent* they can say. Palin has already inanely explained and will continue to how everybody is bubbling with excitement about McCain's leadership with the Bailout and so many other things.

Fair point. Though as I write this, they still haven't responded (at least according to The Page).

Well, so far, Obama's surrogates are bringing up Keating 5 as soon as the question is brought up. Basically the response.
1. We need to focus on the economy going forward
2. But, if you want to talk about associations, McCain shouldn'y want to go there because of Keating 5.

The Repubs have met their match and his name is Obama.

That is, as soon as the Ayres question is brought up.

So, McCain's campaign made public that they would spend the last weeks of the campaign with only negative advertising, then on CBS Sunday Morning about an hour ago they ran an ad (I would imagine it to be quite expensive)that McCain read that for all intents and purposes could have been an Obama ad. I almost expected Obama's voice to approve McCain's message at the end. Like the "Campaign suspension" stunt, everything they announce they're going to do is a head fake. Pulling out of Michigan, sure, but they won't stop the robo calls that they illegally coordinate with their 527's. I was in Columbus Ohio in 2004, the two weeks before the election were a solid wall of such calls, offensive bile that never got reported by the media (and it was so offensive, reporting it would have deeply embarrassed the top of the ticket). Phone banks like this exist because the government allows them, political calls are exempt from "no call" lists. I would guess there are few rich democrats in this sleazy business (I'm suggesting, unsubstantiated, that these services are often in fact unreported donations).
So now I assume the most deranged motives behind any public statement by a republican campaign operative. Especially if they are making claims about how they intend to conduct they're advertising.

user-pic

The Obama campaign has consistently demonstrated extraordinary discipline. This ad establishes control over the discussion, and the mailers reveal the dark underbelly of McCain's corporate-friendly health care plan.

They're hitting him where he's weakest and on issues that matter most to voters. It's exciting to watch this come together.

My local paper, The St. Petersburg Times ran this front page article today about McCain's Navy days. It's woefully anemic pap compared to the Rolling Stone piece.

Given the timing, it almost looks like they're trying to one-up Rolling Stone. They end up looking like amateurs by comparison. Sad. They used to have a pretty good reputation.

user-pic

I thought it was a superb ad. The voice of the announcer was perfect. Calm. Soft-spoken. The pace of the ad was also calm. Not rapid fire. I think the Obama campaign is laying this wonderful, wonderful groundwork. Calm. Steady. Soothing. (versus the reckless mcShame)

I've said it before. I'll say it again. From a professional standpoint, I am in awe of the psychology these folks are using. What pros they are! I applaud them.

The Obama campaign is - rightly - focusing its full attention on voters who are "persuadable."

Most of us here are so sick of the Republicans that we crave "red meat" attacks on McCain and the horse he rode in on. Not gonna happen. The campaign is not spending the money we gave to entertain use, but to win. It's also not writing it's ads as I would - and a good thing, too!

use = us
Sorry

Read the current cover story in Rolling Stone for an eye opening background expose of John McCain, maverick, agent for change, war hero.

Sorry, I messed up the insertion of the link to the article.

John McCain, Make Believe Maverick, by TIM DICKINSON

I just returned from canvassing and yesterday I did a phone bank at a "house party" using my cell phone. I called undecided voters in Ohio yesterday. They have decided now - for Obama. I did not have one person hang up on me. Their concerns were 1) The economy and bail out, and 2) the horror at the thought of Palin. I guess the new poll from Columbus OH is confirming what I experienced yesterday.

Today I did canvassing in Kenosha (I live in Chicago) and the same thing - Much upset about the bailout, jobs, McCain's age, Palin.

We have to keep this up - If you've never done phoning before, the campaign gives you the script and the phone numbers and you can have a house party. The canvassing was OK and I had someone with me who had done it for months. We absolutely cannot give up now and just think everything is going our way. There are still quite a few toss up states out there.

Also, as TheraP mentioned above, the Obama HQ office is the most organized, professional operation I have ever seen in my entire working life. Our money is being very well spent. And they are shrewd!

good ad. keep them coming. now mclame camp has basically wasted a gagillion precious dollars on buying time for ads that are making undecideds cringe before they even see them. turn the page on that you hate-mongers!

It is reported that McWar will go again to Iowa this week. HE IS SO OUT OF REALITY. I HOPE HE WILL CAMPAIGN IN IOWA UNTIL NOVEMBER 3rd

Apparently, McWar brother said that the VA suburbs are communist country. I am sure this will be well received in Virginia...

The AP is saying that Palin used the race card.

Now we have the following stories coming up

John McWar and his pals: John Singlaub,David Ifshin, Gordon Liddy, Charles Kitting...

And the best, Pitbull made the following comments about the press.
As we send our young men and women overseas in a war zone to fight for democracy and freedoms, including freedom of the press, we've really got to have a mutually beneficial relationship here with those fighting the freedom of the press, and then the press, though not taking advantage and exploiting a situation, perhaps they would want to capture and abuse the privilege. We just want truth, we want fairness, we want balance.

It would be more succinct, and effective, if the McSame campaigner were directly quoted about CHANGING THE SUBJECT AWAY FROM THE ECONOMY TO ATTACKING OBAMA'S CHARACTER.

Um . . . Keating 5, anyone?
