Obama Ad: McCain "Out Of Ideas, Out Of Touch, And Running Out Of Time"
The Obama campaign goes up with a new 30-second ad designed to pre-emptively frame McCain's expected fusillade of closing attacks as the last gasps of a losing campaign:
The ad revives a line he used against Hillary in the closing days of the Dem primary, charging that McCain "wants to tear Barack Obama down with scare tactics and smears."
Only this time, the spot puts that claim in the context of the economy, saying that McCain's campaign of slime is due to the fact that "McCain's own campaign admits that if the election is about the economy, he's going to lose."
That's the framing the Obama camp has been repeating endlessly and wants for the closing days: Obama wants the campaign to be about which candidate has better solutions on the economy, while McCain's attacks on Obama's character and allegedly questionable background and associations signal nothing but desperation to avoid discussion of the things that matter to voters.
If many recent polls are to be believed, voters are seeing the race in precisely these terms, and as a result don't appear to be listening to or getting swayed by McCain's attacks. The question is whether the frame will hold for another 10 days.

It is NINE days not ten

we've been arguing about this here. I include election day in the count because we won't know who won until election day is over. so while it is 9 days until election day, it's roughly 10 days until we have a winner.

So on November 4th there will be one day remaining? Maybe you should just use the military formulation and say there are 9 and a butt days until Election Day. The "butt" is for the current day and the day of the event--since neither are actually days remaining.
Or you could keep bitterly clinging to your new math.

Just going to toss this idea to you guys for a easier way to implement a banning process. How about you add a button next to the name where we can report spammers, just have it so after a certain number of reports it sends you guys a notice so you can check it out and ban the guy if you deem it necessary.

I like the ten days point as, in theory, anything could happen on Election Day itself. I guess it's nine days if you're focusing on campaign messaging, but clearly it's ten if you focus on campaign strategy. E.g., Sen. McCain's tactics clearly include ten days (and naturally so do Sen. Obama's and the parties, etc.) I.e. they focus on tactics for Election Day itself (and possibly after, if you think it ends in a 2000 scenario).

This ad should really get under the skin of the former naval aviator, John McCain. One of the worst things another flyer could say about another with regard to their flying skills, especially if they were engaging in mock dog fights, was that the loser consistently "ran out of altitude, ran out of speed, and ran out of ideas." The flyers knew that when that happened, the pilot with no options was toast and headed earthward. Obama's taunt should elicit a truly bone-headed response from Tailhook Johnnie Mac this week as his campaign augurs in.

I hadn't seen that comment but it sure seemed to me like he has been showing the effects of stress on memory. It is not going to get better just because the campaign is over. The transition period will not give him much time to rest before he starts a whole new level of stress. Younger presidents age much faster than normal, older presidents will head into what ever form of dementia they are at risk for under the stress of campaigning, transition and the highest stress job on earth.
Honestly, I read someone like Mark Levine at NRO on "The Obama Temptation" and it just about makes me nuts. The focus, level of arguement and information is apalling. That is only partly stress related. We did get off on the 150K wardrobe for awhile but mostly because of the excess and hypocrisy. (Why should we not use any nail they hand us on silver platters?) There are still people determined that Obama is not a US citizen. Excuse me, those of us who question the governments official explantation for 9/11 at least use scientific studies and analysis - especially the actual, official government reports that refute the explanation- to ask for further investigation. The US Secret Service under the Bush administration is going to spend 100 million in protection for someone they had better be able to determine was not eligible for the job?
Then I read their responses to Frum's advice to save the down ticket races and thought, oh joy, they aren't going to take it. If the NC and other voters don't pay attention to the Dole ads about the imbalance in DC, we could at least hit 58 Senate seats. I won't believe 60 until the votes are in. Even there, on different issues I think we could get a few GOP senators - especially those up for re-election in '10 - to join the Dems.

What I mean is that I'm not good at noticing small, gradual changes. I need side-by-side views of then and now for the deterioration to be noticeable.
E.g., four months ago I saw a video of McScum from 2004, and the difference between then and now was so striking that I wrote a post about it. Given that difference, I'm not at all surprised that his condition has gotten worse at the same, or even at an accelerating rate.

Can't tell a PAC from a Church nowadays...
Meanwhile the evangelical wing begins weekend one of a two week gotv effort.
Evangelical pastors (yes this means you Rod Parsley, and John Hagee), southern baptists et al. are just today putting a guilt trip on unsuspecting members by urging them to vote for the republicans. Yes this is done tax free (if you call your church giving free), and is also free campaign advertising, with Gods approval of course.
Today, and next Sunday, will be the harshest of messages that blare from pulpits all across this country. The rhetorical moral questions will be asked: you don't want to murder babies do you, and Muslims are evil hint, hint you wouldn't vote for a Muslim president would you?
These so called men of god should be challenged when they so blatantly ignore the concept of free will that Jesus himself observed. They also need to go to a camp meeting where they teach about the constitution with a strong focus on the first amendment.

It amazes me too.
There's a Democratic political activist in Dallas, Harryette Everhardt, who started a program to bring the constitution in to Dallas schools. We gave a big chunk of money her to get the program off the ground - I don't know how it's going - haven't heard from her lately. If anyone could get it done, it would be her.
She started it after the '04 election. When we got the letter about her program, I thought: Wow - why aren't we already doing this?

"If many recent polls are to be believed, voters are seeing the race in precisely these terms, and as a result don't appear to be listening to or getting swayed by McCain's attacks. The question is whether the frame will hold for another 10 days."
On McCain's message it is basically Palin; they cannot get around her defects. The resources, structure, the GOTV drives, and the focus of Obama's campaign are the other factors that McCain's message cannot impact. These factors cannot be significantly changed in ten or nine days, and it would be prudent to expect Team Obama to run through the finish line.

So, McCain is running out of time? Playing the age card. Obama continues to go negative right up until the end.
I've yet to hear how Obama's health care plan will reduce costs. And how much will the premiums be for the federal program.
I don't want to have our next president tested like Kennedy was during the missile crisis. Given Obama's poor judgment on supporting the surge I do not want to tempt fate with another Bay of Pigs disaster by a neophyte military strategist.
Obama would make a great PR spokesman. As president we will see the worst of Kennedy, LBJ and Carter. A pontificating neophyte who will expand both the nanny state and our military involvement in Afghani/Pakistani/Iranian cauldron.
Even broken clocks are right twice a day. Just becasue Obama was right once or twice offers no expectation that he will be right again.

And, I certainly do not think it is in the national interest to have all three branches of govt. controlled by the same party. Time and again that has led to huge problems.

A long time ago someone said "government is the problem".
Well now because of a government that let the Enrons, Bear Stearns, AIG's of the world do what they pleased (translation rip you off)we all suffer.
On top of it you are now going to pay for their mistakes. Gee I wonder if I mismanage my finances the government will give me money to pay off my credit cards? Not likely.
The government that got out of the way got us all thrown under the bus.
If anyone is in the pocket of corporations, and lobbyists its McCain. He's talking big government when he's walked the crooked path.

McCain Effect
Boston Globe poll out today shows McCain now down 15 points (39% to 54%)in New Hampshire.
Wasn't McCain just there a few days ago? Maybe he should take that state off his map too.
