New McCain Robo-Slime Hits Obama's Ties To Rezko, Blames Dems For Financial Crisis
The tide of McCain robo-slime keeps rising. The latest McCain robocall hits Obama over his "20 year" friendship with "convicted felon" Tony Rezko, saying he helped Obama buy his "mansion" in a "swanky" neighborhood.
For good measure, the call blames the entire financial meltdown on the Democrats' two years of control over Congress.
"Since the Democrats took control of Congress only two years ago they have driven our economy into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression," says the call, which was reported to us by readers in Ohio, Wisconsin, Colorado, and North Carolina.
Here's audio:
Script:
Hello, I'm calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama and convicted felon Tony Rezko have been friends for almost 20 years. Rezko donated and raised thousands of dollars of political contributions for Obama. And Rezko helped Obama buy his $1.6 million mansion in a swanky Chicago neighborhood. Obama needs to come clean on this deal before the election so that the voters can judge whether Obama received monetary benefits from these Rezko favors. And since the Democrats took control of Congress only two years ago they have driven our economy into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. And what's their solution to the problem? To spread more of our wealth around by raising our taxes and giving it to those who don't pay a single penny of federal income tax.
With friends and priorities like these Barack Obama and his Democrat allies lack the judgment to lead our country. This call is paid for by the Republican National Committee and McCain-Palin 2008 at 866-558-5591.
As I've noted before, these calls no longer make news. McCain weathered the initial fusillade of bad press that greeted his initial wave of robo-slime, and the big news orgs lost interest. Now McCain can keep pumping out the robo-slime at ever slimier levels without paying any kind of price for it in the national media.

Oh, for God's sake.
They may as well start labeling their own feces with Obama's name and start throwing it at passersby to see who they can fool.

I love it when they do this kind of crap. For every dipshit they convince to vote for McCain with these calls there's 50 independents that get so pissed at the childishness they either won't vote at all or may even vote for Obama in protest.
Bring it, bitch!

My father is one of them. Life long independent that usually leans Republican (likes less government).
Was voting McCain all the way until the Palin mess turned ugly. Then began to question it. When the campaign just turned ugly and hateful, he said enough.
He voted Tuesday for Obama.
In North Carolina.

The thing is, they're doing this to Democratic-leaning households. This isn't a GOTV effort.
Anyone who's got a moment to check would see where our contributions have ended up over the past decade. The state Democratic party has a list where rank households from solid Dem to solid Rep. One would assume the Reps, with their "superior" historical GOTV effort, would have the same. They know who we are and how we vote.
The object is to try to turn off Democrats.
Well, I've got one thing to say. Just keep those calls and mailers coming to my house, 'cuz you're wasting money, McSlime.

I'm sorry, all I can do is laugh at this. The Democrats wrecked the economy in just 2 years? And the Repugs had nothing to do with it even though they totally ran the country - wouldn't even let Democrats in Congress read bills or vote on them half the time - for over 6 years, but it's the Democrats' fault?
Excuse me - ROFLMAO!

This is totally OT, but I thought that you would enjoy this story. I was listening to an interview with a group of AA in St Louis that was on "All Things Considered" yeterday afternoon, and of course the questions turned to the presidential race. This group of folks were giving really indepth, thoughtful answers to the question of what they thought about Obama's candidacy and likelihood of him being our next president and one man chuckled and said, "You know, me and my friends have always joked that there are two things a black man can never be: a white man and the President. Well, Michael Jackson has proved us wrong on one part, and Barack Obama is about to prove us wrong on the other part."
I LOVED that line! :-)

Exactly right. They're trying to make the EITC sound like welfare -- yet another cynical ploy to feed on racial tension and resentment.
Never mind that workers who don't owe federal income tax pay 7.65 percent right off the top in payroll taxes, a higher percentage than people earning over $100,000 or whatever the Social Security cutoff is. Never mind that these workers are paying state and local sales taxes and, directly or indirectly, property taxes. And never mind that McShame himself proposed to make his health care tax credit sham refundable, too.

I’m like elonepb’s dad. I supported McCain through the primaries. My wife and I even contributed the max to his primary campaign. On November 4, however, we’ll be voting for Obama/Biden . . . in Virginia. Why? Well, I think Ann Applebaum put it best in yesterday’s WaPo:
“The larger point, though, is that if I’m not voting for McCain — and, after a long struggle, I’ve realized that I can’t — maybe it’s worth explaining why, for I suspect there are other independent voters who feel the same. Particularly because it’s not his campaign, disjointed though that has been, that finally repulses me: It’s his rapidly deteriorating, increasingly anti-intellectual, no longer even recognizably conservative Republican Party. His problems are not technical; they do not have to do with ads, fundraising or tactics, as some have suggested. They are institutional; they have to do with his colleagues, advisers and supporters.”
There are millions of rational, intelligent Republicans who will troop to the voting booth in this election to vote for McCain/Palin — simply because they’re Republicans. The wingnuts don’t constitute a majority of the Republican Party but they have power and influence disproportionate to their numbers. In my mind, this makes the intelligent majority of Republicans nothing but enablers of the crazies, and therefore guilty by association, just like those accused of aiding and abetting a criminal enterprise.
Maybe the Obama campaign ought to respond with a robo call of it’s own pointing out the 26-year association between McCain and another felon — Senator Ted Stevens.

Wow that is an awesome comment.
I've been saying this for awhile - I wish you and other sane conservatives would form a viable opposition party - we need it.
The extreme right wing of the party really intends to win this battle for the Repug Party and if it does, the Repug Party will be marginalized.
Please either take your party back and build it into something that is viable - or form a new one. I want viable opposition - it's good for us. What we have now is not viable - it's too extreme to be viable for anything other than a very small minority.
October 29, 2008 3:27 PM | Reply | Permalink
It's not that the Republican Party isn't viable, but it isn't rational. They almost have lost the ability to make decisions based on facts. How can a government chasing made up boogeymen function? We've got enough real problems that need solutions. We need people who think in power.
Carl Sagan talked about a bullshit meter. Well, mine goes off every time McCain or his surragates speak. President #1 job description: The ability to think about the big picture.
(sigh, another matyra rant)
October 29, 2008 4:33 PM | Reply | Permalink
That's exactly why I think they aren't viable - they aren't rational and only a rational party with real support can be viable.
The support for the extremist wing is very limited. The Repugs cannot win another election unless they broaden support and they can't do that if the loonytunes wing takes over.
That's why I say they aren't a viable party - they will be marginalized worse than the Green Party if they keep this up -

I'll repeat this because I believe it's a bigger story than the lack of reporting on it seems to suggest:
Two Cuban Americans were mobbed at the close of the McCain-Palin rally in Miami today and had to be rescued by the police before the mob could start tearing them to pieces for being Cuban Americans with Obama signs. The mob is yelling "Terrorist" at these guys and the situation got dangerous very quickly.
That's a big story - this has to stop.

We got it here in Wisconsin, in case you're keeping track.
Also interestingly (especially since my spouse & I already voted, so let the Repubs waste their money) we got three separate flyers from the Wisconsin Repubs (not the RNC and not the McCain campaign) - 2 hitting Obama on Rezko and one quoting Wayne LaPierre/NRA as saying Obama wants to destroy the right to bear arms.
Are any other state parties besides Wisconsin's creating their own slime?
