McCain: "Senator Obama's Secret That You Don't Know..."

The exchange over the candidates' tax policies strikes me as a critical one, and not just because McCain managed to introduce an element of Obama-as-scary-unknown into a discussion of tax policy:

Senator Obama's secret that you don't know is that his tax increases will increase taxes on 50% of small business revenue. Small businesses across America will have to cut jobs, and will have their taxes increased, and won't be able to hire, because of Senator Obama's tax policies.

The key moment came when Obama got a chance to directly confront these claims, which he did, at length, and convincingly, too.

Obama also said: "The Straight Talk Express lost a wheel on that one."

Someone needs to incorporate McCain saying the word "goodies" into some sort of techno remix.

user-pic

Look, McLame is just creepy.

Obama is just charismatic as fuck.

that simple.

My friends.

Creepy indeed! And what was up with McCain tossing the mic back and forth after finishing each response? Did anybody else notice that?

Reminds me of something Bush would do! The gesture was body language that said "oh yeah, how'd you like that response, put that in your pipe and smoke it...yeeehaw..." As if patting himself on the back.

Obama, on the other hand, was cool, calm and collected.

user-pic

Not even close.

Herman Munster or the Fonz?

user-pic

He's just said what Obama just said,

Jesus old man - it's sad. Stop it. I mean he said almost word for word, realized it, stumbled and went on.

O lord- stop him.

yes, he has been repeating Obama's words. I've never seen plagerism strike so quickly.

user-pic

Like the audience didn't just hear it and it was said much better.

LOLOL - I mean come on LMAO!

user-pic

Wow. Did you catch McCain referring to Obama as "that one," with a dismissive jerk of his head? A new low for the debate format, beating Bush II's repeated references to Gore as "this guy" in 2000--

Pretty damn rude.

user-pic

If you're going to demonize someone might as well make them non-human. Reducing a sentient being to a "that" absolves us of treating opposing view points and ideas as possibly humane and viable.

Ya, I saw that shit. I wonder if anyone besides Obama's base recognized McCain's dis as deplorable as his lowering of the meaning of "my friend".

I'm a little sick from this debate.

lol Obama just called out McCain's lie over the 5k thing and McCain tells it anyways.

LOL

Obama wants to fine employers who aren't giving their employees healthcare!

The NERVE of Obama!

Was that a dig at Biden?

Fucking lame joke.

user-pic

what the fuck is a "refundable tax credit?"

Goddamn he's full of shit and he just tried to joke on his age.

Eh god -

And Obama just explained that shit, asshole and you can't just claim otherwise right in his face, bitch!

It's $5000 that McCain taxes from you, then refunds to your health insurance company.

Funny, I tried to be snarky and I wrote the truth. Damn. Down the rabbit hole with John McCain.

Ohhh...here he goes with "mandates" again. Hillary Clinton is probably yelling at her tv right now.

He also briefly touched on the old Republican classic "welfare queen" attack with his "gold plated Cadillacs" line. I'm sure that will be coming up again in an ad near you.

If Obama says healthcare's a right the election's over.

Obama's gonna win.

How can McCain say that health care is one of responsibility and not a right?

user-pic

Good for you, Obama - tell Brokaw to step the fuck off, bitch!

The people need to know, damnit!

Tena, you're on fire tonight

A right. Yes! Fuck Yes!

If McCain says "my friends" one more time, I'm going to have to open another bottle of Jack Daniels. I shouldn't have played this drinking game!

Josh Marshall: "9:52 PM ... When is Brokaw going to tell McCain how good a job he's doing?"

LOL

Brokaw is such an ass.

But Obama is doing a good job of fending off Brokaw and McCain.

And the beauty is that McCain has squandered another chance at a game changer.

I guess all that bluster of taking off the gloves ... McCain must wear a lot of gloves!

Obama is killing in the healthcare issue.

Tom Brokaw fucking sucks, period.

user-pic

No shit - let's slam that bitch with email.

Sign me on.

user-pic

What was that?

What was that stupid Joke?

hair implants (Biden?)

Obama just had his "I feel your pain" moment. He killed by mentioning his mother.

user-pic

He's wrapping himself in the flag. Ho fucking hum!!

BO won that first hour. Again BO is holding his own on McCain's turf.

Strong military = strong economy.... Russia....

He said my friends again. Drink up.

I hope I make it through the debate.

Another drinking game--a shot each time Brokow won't ask a follow-up question!

And here we go with the "He doesn't understand" again...

It worked so well the first time.

And Obama brings it up directly. Cool.

What the hell is his point?

McCain: we don't have time for on the time training.
Palin: you betcha
America: what???

Quick, hypno-wink at the crowd!

"We don't have time for on the job training my friend"

I'm sorry, what was the whole explanation of Palin? Learning under the master?

I'm confused...

I don't know about every one here, but I'm laughing my head off reading Josh's frontpage comments. LMHO!!! Thanks, Josh! Really. :)

YES!

Someone prepared a "I dont understand" response.

Dammit. I thought he was going to draw it out longer.

Yeah, that was awesome.

They are on top of EVERYTHING.

Anyone notice (I think) that Obama has yet to have a need to use his "scratch pad" versus McCain continually writing?

"Cheerleading." Devestating.

Great comeback from Obama: Iraq is bad judgement.

So, Jim Lehrer couldn't do enough to get them to engage each other during the first debate, but Tom Brokaw is bitching them out for engaging each other today?

He must be saving his real gotcha questions for the end, and doesn't want to run out of time for them all.

Has no one told McCain that half the country breaks into gales of derisive laughter every time he says, in his Dickensian whine, "My friends"?

Well, an aide did back in 2002, but after McCain popped him in the eye, no one since.

For awhile I have been watching the CNN signal with the uncommitted Ohio voters (men and women) ...McCain is basically flatlined on many of his responses.

Thanks for the update.

No hit it out of the ole ballpark.

i have been noticing that as well.

user-pic

Obama is coherent, for the love of god.

McLame is not so very much.

And he (Obama) hits back hard every time. That's why McLame hates him. I swear, McLame sounds like a Concert Troll Delux. Listen to his voice. Ick!

user-pic

Obama is so nailing this -

Agreed.

Right on, Tena!

Dammit! My power just flickered and now my cable is rebooting.

user-pic

O Mclame is just so lost.

Old man yelling at clouds.

McCain is flatlining call 911

McCain back o nthe fucking surge!

Surge ... earmakrs ... surge ... earmarks

surge my friends earmarks my friends surge my friends earmarks my friends.

If we could just pay for the surge by cutting earmarks ....

How many "My friends" have McCain tonight?

Thank God, I don't drink!

If the CNN graph is any indication, Ohio is not remotely in play.

user-pic

I knew it!

Are these audience questions suspiciously pro-Obama - or is that just me? Is he just that good?

Cool hand.... says the angry old guy. bomb bomb bomb...

Yeah, that was an interesting point.

Cool Hand Barack!!!! :)

Tena, he is on point...

A cool hand is right, not an old man with a temper...

Those were Rangers not Marines!

He's losing the audience is my bet.

user-pic

McCain Doctrine
Force force and more force

Yeah our troops are our first priority, expect when it comes to GI benefits.

MEandering discussion from MCCain on intervention: I literally can't understand his policy.

You and me both. I'm trying but what is the point?

brokaw has always had an interesting speaking style and odd pronunciation. who knew that all these years he had to contend with mccain's junk in his mouth.

spit take!

Dude, your avatar is drunk.

just like the avatee.

user-pic

LOL

He has a speech impediment and it has always driven me crazy.

I don't get it - how can someone with a speech impediment be a major broadcaster?

I do not get Brokaw - who did he fuck for the job?

Holocaust = leaving Iraq without Victory.

user-pic

Goddamn it he's beautiful!

I hope the increase his SS stat - he's the president.

Everytime McLame attacks Obama or makes denigrating remarks his CNN tracing line goes flat and even negative!

McWar does not get it...He is lost, he is toast, and he is losing even more...even on the Foreign policy...This is just awsome!!!

user-pic

He just totally fucked up what happened in Afghanistan and what's more I think this audience knows that - it was the Taliban you were helping dumbass!

Best McCain non-answer ever

In this ramble (it's the entire answer from a CNN transcript), McCain literally provides no plan to do anything about Medicare or Social Security. He then ends his non-answer by saying, "and then listen to my vision for the future of America," and then gives two rah-rah sentences. The whole answer sounds like a set-up with no payoff. My answer is...

MCCAIN: ... tough decisions. I want to get to Medicare in a second.

Social Security is not that tough. We know what the problems are, my friends, and we know what the fixes are. We've got to sit down together across the table. It's been done before.

I saw it done with our -- our wonderful Ronald Reagan, a conservative from California, and the liberal Democrat Tip O'Neill from Massachusetts. That's what we need more of, and that's what I've done in Washington.

Sen. Obama has never taken on his party leaders on a single major issue. I've taken them on. I'm not too popular sometimes with my own party, much less his.

So Medicare, it's going to be a little tougher. It's going to be a little tougher because we're talking about very complex and difficult issues.

My friends, what we have to do with Medicare is have a commission, have the smartest people in America come together, come up with recommendations, and then, like the base-closing commission idea we had, then we should have Congress vote up or down.

Let's not let them fool with it anymore. There's too much special interests and too many lobbyists working there. So let's have -- and let's have the American people say, "Fix it for us."

Now, just back on this -- on this tax, you know, again, it's back to our first question here about rhetoric and record. Sen. Obama has voted 94 times to either increase your taxes or against tax cuts. That's his record.

When he ran for the United States Senate from Illinois, he said he would have a middle-income tax cut. You know he came to the Senate and never once proposed legislation to do that?

So let's look at our record. I've fought higher taxes. I have fought excess spending. I have fought to reform government.

Let's look at our records, my friends, and then listen to my vision for the future of America. And we'll get our economy going again. And our best days are ahead of us.

Did McCain call Obama "that one"...I think he has lost it...why isn't anyone talking about this ???

user-pic

Is he making McLame mad?

Did he just call Tom "KATIE" or has the vodka gone to my head?

both!

user-pic

Yes...Obama!!!!!!!

McCain - next stop Bagdad.

So much for speak softly and carry a big stick.

Wow, did Barack just go on the offensive?

This debate isn't even close. If I hear a pundit tire swing for McCain, I'm gonna put a boot through my telly.

user-pic

put it through the pundit; spare the telly.

;)

I am so proud, I am so proud of Senator Obama...He is amazing...
Poor McWar...

user-pic

McLame is getting mad -

O please quit bleeding on us, Old Man. Erk - you're disgusting.

cover your ears. here it comes...

POW!

he didn't go there.

wait, what?

I guess he is....McCain is looking more desperate than ever..

user-pic

Not being capable of watching the debate, I really appreciate this. Thanks to all!

I will get him, I will get him..repeatedly and totally flatline and/or negative...McLame is NOT impressing his Ohio audience per CNN.

user-pic

You are making me all tingly!

"I'm not gonna telegraph my punches"

Um...hee!

Loosely translated: "The way I've been running my campaign lately? For reals I'm going to stop that."

He will not Telegraph...Obama will Internet!

Telegraphs too high-tech for McCain. I'm thinking pigeons.

cold wars are for pansies. the next war with russia will be hot. paris hilton hot.

whats with his tongue

How is McCain going to get the money to repurchase home loans when he's going to cut $300 billion in taxes on corporations and the wealthy? How does he call himself a reformer for being against $18 billion a year in earmarks of he's going to cut $300 billion? With the vast amount of money people pay in taxes in Illinois versus Arizona, I really think its OK that the several million people in the Chicago area got a $3 million planetarium that they can actually enjoy and learn something about science. Isn't it important to get our children interested in Science to compete in the 21st century... or should we give $300 billion to the wealthy. McCain came up with the home loan repurchase idea in the debate that would dwarf yearly earmark spending, so his whole earmark line of attack on Obama seems ludicrous.

For an international perspective:

My friends in Spain and Germany are partying!

They rightly say, it's over.

November 6th: President-elect Obamaaaaaaa!!!!!

Also, how right is it that Corsi of the infamous Obama Nation is in jail in Kenya?

gObama/Biden 2008!
