McCain Cuts Ad Attacking Obama That's Geared To ... West Virginia?

Is the McCain campaign worried about West Virginia, a state that Obama is making a play for but that most experts assumed was solidly in the GOP column?

A reader points out to us that McCain appears to have cut a paid radio ad, and posted it on the McCain campaign's YouTube page, that's specifically geared to run in that state:

The spot appears to be a remake of an earlier spot geared to run in other states that the McCain campaign has been advertising in.

"Clean coal is important to America -- and to West Virginia," the new spot says. "For West Virginians coal means thousands of jobs...But Obama, Biden, and their liberal allies oppose clean coal."

It's unclear if the West Virginia ad is actually running. But the spot has clearly been created for a West Virginia audience, suggesting that if it isn't running, it's the can and ready to roll if necessary.

We tried to learn more, but a McCain campaign spokesperson didn't have a comment. We'll bring you more when we get it.

Wow.  WVa going blue would be awesome.  I don't expect to see it, but McScum does have another two weeks left to dig his hole a lot deeper.

Hey TalkingPointsMemo readers... we're having a BIG final push today to raise money for Barack Obama!

Obama's campaign is deciding tomorrow which states they will campaign in, and Barack made a video message asking for donations to expand the contest into additional states!

You can watch it at:
http://tinyurl.com/finalpush

We have a rare opportunity to make the fifty-state strategy really mean something, and to fight for expanding the Democratic ranks throughout the nation, but we have to fully fund it first! The polls are showing a major shift to Obama -- Reuters/CSPAN/Zogby shows him leading by 12 points, up 9 in the last week.

We need to take advantage of this opening and McCain's limited finances to reach out to independents and conservatives in states which Democrats traditionally ignore, and show them that we're going to fight for their vote and for the future of their state!

We could have the chance to be the only party going live with ads in these states, while McCain is fighting desperately to hold onto states like Ohio and Indiana.

If we show the people of these states that we're serious about fighting for their votes, then they'll start to take the Democrats seriously, and many Democrats who are traditionally disheartened and unenthused in these states will gain hope for the future of the Democratic Party, not just nationally, but in their state and local elections too.

We have a rare chance to turn more red states purple by getting out the vote nationwide. Now is the only chance we'll get to do it. Don't lose that chance! Donate one last time today, and help create a major victory this year... and set the stage for even larger victories in states like Texas and Arizona in 2012!

Push for a big victory... donate one last time today!

It's kinda comic:

"Obama, Biden, and their liberal allies"

How many times did that phrase get used? Almost as a single word?

Who are these "liberal allies"? The Swedes perhaps?

How many West Virginians are going to be upset with more Swedes around?

user-pic

"Who are these "liberal allies"?"
Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reis, William Ayers, Ward Churchill, John Kerry...

user-pic

Ward Churchill? William Ayers? HA AHAHAHAHA AHHHAHAAA!!!! Oh too funny. These guys have obviously been integral figures in the Democratic Party. That's all we ever talk about when we get together. "What's Chruchill gonna think about SB 129?" "Has the DNC cleared this with Ayers?"

Weak sauce Mr. Wallace.

Hardball interview:

http://www.dailykos.com/

user-pic

That's brutal. And look at Pfotenhauer -- you can instantly tell she knows it's indefensible.

user-pic

Heh heh, yeah, and she sighed enough to give Al Gore a run for his money!

user-pic

Wow Chris really laid it on her. He really must be pissed McCain picked Palin. He must view it as an insult to America.

user-pic

Damn, I was just gonna post on that! Matthews was doing a huge riff on this and I love how he was basically calling her unqualififed. Beauuuutiful.

user-pic

Ummm...only Obama actually supports clean coal, unfortunately. But this is yet another lie.

And face it McCain, "liberal" isn't the bad word you want it to be, you can say it all you want. You asshole conservatives failed the country, not liberals.

user-pic

user-pic

The accent of the announcer was all wrong for W. VA.

All wrong. That dooms it!

user-pic

Chuck Todd > John King

user-pic

"liberal allies" doesn't exactly sting like it used to. Kind of like yelling "socialist." McCain's running the classic Republican campaign and is getting no response.

http://pufferfish.typepad.com/

user-pic

I have to say that Chris and Chuck rocked today....

I am sure the repubs must be really pissed of at MSNBC...

user-pic

Yeah, I'm seeing Hardball now - I couldn't catch it the first time it was on.

Chris is good tonight and Chuck T blew me and I think Brian Williams, away.

LOL!

user-pic

WVa won't go blue. No way, no how.

McCain's just running out of money. There is just no upside to spending money in WVa if you are trying to fight for some sort of edge in PA. He wants to spend his money there and assumes (probably correctly) that WVa is safe.

user-pic

Maybe McWar will cancel his visit to Meet the Press on Sunday.

user-pic

and another great material for Saturday Night Live from Caribou Barbie...

At this point, she should no longer make an interview with anyone...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/22/palin-stumped-when-asked_n_137010.html

user-pic

That is also an outright LIE. Obama and Biden don't oppose clean coal whatsoever.

user-pic

Unfortunately, since clean coal is a myth.

One more Obama policy position I desperately hope is a campaign lie.

user-pic

Gov Manchen of WVA is telling the folks in the coal fields,,,,,, better a black man in the White House who is your friend, that a white man who is your enemy. That will resonate.

user-pic

Not any of McCain's WEAK campaign and personal attacks of lies, hatred, fear, racism, and division WILL NEVER PREVAIL against Sen. Obama - this nation's next Commander-in-Chief !!!

You [ Barack Obama], are from God and have overcome them [the enemy's attacks, schemes, and plots ] , because the one [God] who is in you [ Barack Obama] is greater than the one [the enemy ] who is in the world. - 1 John 4:4

No weapon forged against you [ Barack Obama] will prevail, and you [ Barack Obama] will refute every tongue that accuses you [ Barack Obama] . This is the heritage of the servants [ Barack Obama] of the LORD, and this is their [ Barack Obama] vindication from me," declares the LORD. - Isaiah 54:17

" I [ God ] will send my terror ahead of you [ Barack Obama] and throw into confusion every nation you [ Barack Obama] encounter. I [ God ] will make all your [ Barack Obama] enemies turn their backs and run." - Exodus 23:27

The Lord will rescue me [ Barack Obama] from every evil attack and will bring me [ Barack Obama] safely to his heavenly kingdom. - 2 Timothy 4:18

11 For he will command his angels concerning you [ Barack Obama] to guard you [ Barack Obama ] in all your ways; 12 they will lift you [ Barack Obama ] up in their hands, so that you [ Barack Obama ] will not strike your [his] foot against a stone. 13 You [ Barack Obama ] will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you [ Barack Obama ] will trample the great lion and the serpent. - Psalm 91:11-13

I have given you [ Barack Obama ] authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you [ Barack Obama ]. - Luke 10:19

It's time for the American people to get it right and NOT vote for McCain-Palin, instead vote for change. It's time for this country to turn the page and seek a new and better future for ourselves and our children. It's time for REAL change in Washington, it's time to elect Barack Obama for president !

Obama-Biden are the wiser and stronger team to solve the crucial challenges we have in this nation and abroad !

Amen.

user-pic

I guess AP is working full mode for McCain tonight.

AP headlines...

Presidential Race tightens in final weeks: AP Poll

McCain, Palin rip Obama over taxes in NH, OH.

Palin office defends charging state for kids travel.

GOP house leaders ask Bush to cut off ACORN funds.

It's time for someone to, yet again, call A.P. bull shit in big bold font.

user-pic

When did those guys turn into such tools? Are there no independent wire services anymore?

user-pic

Ron Fournier, AP Washing DC bureau chief, almost quit his post to work for McCain's campaign.

http://www.mije.org/richardprince/ap-bureau-chiefs-objectivity-issue

I guess he later realized he could work far more effectively for McCain from his rusted desk in D.C.

user-pic

I said the SAME EXACT THING to myself when I went on yahoo mail UNBELIEVABLE. I said the SAME EXACT THING. Great minds think alike hmm...

user-pic

Fournier is on the Tire Swing for one last ride.

Okay... who are we kidding. Fournier is going to be on the Tire Swing the week after the election to do a post mortum that puts over Saint McCain and talks about Obama needing to run the country to the Center-Right.

John

user-pic

No, no - let AP and anybody else keep pushing this meme. Obama's campaign knows what's really going on in the states.

The campaign also knows that the closer people think this race is, the bigger the Democratic turnout. (Bigger repug turnout too, but since dems outnumber them about 2-1, it won't matter.)

And I still think only a close race will keep the whacko traitors in the White House from launching nukes at Iran before Nov. 4.

user-pic

The RNC could have saved $149,998.50 to nail down the base.
All they needed to do is dress Palin in 2 band-aids and a cork!
Cost: $1.50
Result: priceless

user-pic

At some point these t.v, and radio, stations are going to say to McCain sorry no credit only money orders...

user-pic

Larry David is describing exactly what I feel, pretty funny stuff, especially about the debates.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/larry-david/waiting-for-nov-4th_b_137029.html

user-pic

I read that too, and that's exactly how I feel these days.

user-pic

I feel like a kid, and Christmas is coming. I see something under the tree that looks like a Shwin Stingwray in wrapping. I am so excited that that's what it has to be!

But for the past two Christmases my abusive parents have given me boxes of shit. So, understandably, I'm an emotionally crippled child. It looks so much like a Stingwray, but I suspect it's just shit molded in the shape of a bike.

user-pic

Iam confused....
McCain says Palin is the most experienced VP candidate in recent years. So he is saying she is more experienced then Biden, but Biden has been in the senate longer then even McCain. So.... does McCain think Palin is more experienced then he is?

user-pic

Exactly, meaning what? Straight talk my ass.

user-pic

I swear to god if you asked McLame that in the right context, he'd make a case for it.

I swear to god. And hate himself and her every fucking second he was doing it.

;)

user-pic

So, looks like this (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27328630/) is the first part of the NBC interview. I don't seem to see yet much of what Chuck Todd said (and Williams didn't ask any follow-up questions -- come on Brian, she didn't answer the "preconditions" question at all!). Going downhill in Part 2 and 3?

user-pic

I just don't understand why anybody would vote for McCain. Watching the interview, all I saw was an angry, desperate old man who doesn't have a clue that his divisive campaign is setting our country back 40 years.

The AP poll made me want to throw up. Are we winning this thing?

user-pic
user-pic

Thanks I needed those sites. McCain's lies and smears were taking me down. It's like a lie isn't a lie anymore.

user-pic

The McCain campaign is also up on the radio in West Virginia with an attack ad featuring A-1 redneck, Hank Williams, Jr., that hits Obama's small town "bitter" comments and invokes God and guns - clearly targeting those "pro-Americans" in "real" (West)Virginia.

user-pic

Look! The emperor(ess) has no clothes...I mean new clothes.

(apologies to H.C. Andersen).

user-pic

They should keep that approach up...Those are the only voters they are going to reach. They've being working to the base. And it is not working.

The Failins People Magazine Interview

* SP = Caribou Barbie * TP = Barbie's dude

Do you think you're intellectual?
SP: Yessss. And you have to be up on not only current events, but you have to understand the foundation of the issues that you're working on as a governor. I had to do the same thing as a mayor. So it is not just current events but it's much more in-depth than that to understand how, in the case of me being governor, how did our state get to the position that we are in order for a decision to have to be made. You can't just go on what is presented you. You have to know the background, you have to know the players involved before you make a policy call. So, um, it's uh, it's a good job, it's a tough job and it's a very, very serious job. And no. You don't get to be a governor by being –
TP: – going with the wind.
SP: Yeah definitely. You don't just go with the flow and take a political pulse on policy. You have to go with what the foundational knowledge is that you have on issues in front of you and you have to put the people you are serving, put them first. You put them before partisanship you put them before special interests. That's how you make decisions as governor.

{...}

How do you get that knowledge?
SP: I'm a voracious reader, always have been. I appreciate a lot of information. I think that comes from growing up in a family of schoolteachers also where reading and seizing educational opportunities was top on my parents' agenda. That was instilled in me.

Me and my buddy got recruited for GOTV in the eastern part of New Mexico to knock 500 doors, i.e. 40-50 a day. If we finish it earlier, we'll be sent to Colorado.
Effective from tomorrow, I will be absent from TPM until the E-day evening.
Miss you all radical liberals.

user-pic

Thanks for that, and travel safe. Hopefully we'll "see" ya here in the e-day evening.

user-pic

Take care and wear some clothes :)

user-pic

Geofu and Amelie,
Thanks for showing some love.
See on election night.

user-pic

That's awesome.

Dress warmly - from the north all across the east, it's unbelievably cold for the next day and night and then it starts to warm up. It's going to be 14 here tonight.

Be safe and I can't thank you enough for working this hard.

user-pic

Good for you. My niece is driving over from Austin to help in NM this week too.

Vaya con Dios.

Keating May Rear its Head in the Final Week:

"Campaign finance records have revealed that the law firm founded by Charles Keating - before he went to jail for fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy for his activities as chairman of Lincoln Savings and Loans - has made donations totalling over $50,000 to McCain's [2008] campaign.

"The Center for Responsive Politics has done the maths, and says: "In amounts ranging from $200 to $2,300, about 30 partners and employees of the legal firm Keating, Muething and Klekamp, as well as their family members, have contributed $50,200 to McCain's 2008 campaign. All but two of the contributions came in July, and all but three of those July donations were logged on July 31, suggesting they were delivered at the same time. As with any bundle of campaign contributions, it's difficult to determine which donor was the "bundler," the person who solicited the contributions on the campaign's behalf. McCain's online roster of bundlers, which purports to name any individual bundling $50,000 or more for the campaign, does not associate any of McCain's major fundraisers with the Keating firm.
"...the only Keating included [mentioned] in the bundle is William J. Keating, Jr., Charles Keating's nephew, who is listed as a partner in the firm and contributed $1,000.
"But it reminds us of McCain's role in 'The Keating Five,' a group of senators who received a total of $1.4 million in campaign contributions connected to Keating and personally intervened with government regulators to allow Lincoln Savings and Loans to make highly risky investments that defrauded thousands of investors and cost taxpayers $3.4 billion."

Like someone pointed out, this attack is a blatant lie. In that clip of Biden, he clearly misspoke and then went on to explain why he's for it. He talked about China and other countries developing coal plants regardless of whether clean cola technology develops, so we might as well develop it and sell it to them. A side note, someone called that position unfortunate, but we have to try and see if it can work. Coal will be burned with or without it.

So with nothing else working, McCain should try calling Obama a secret Jew. I heard it worked in a campaign in Poland. They can dig up a photo of him in a yarmulke and point out how similar "Barack" is to "Ehud Barak".

user-pic

Good morning!

New Quinnipiac U. polls:

Florida: Obama 49, McCain 44
Ohio: Obama 52, McCain 38
Pennsylvania: Obama 53, McCain 40

user-pic

Why, I, um, WHAT THE HELL?

TPM has a Rasmussen poll with Obama up by 8 in Kentucky. This has got to be a misprint, right?

user-pic

And to top it off, the poll list has a Survey USA poll for Illinois Obama up by 5? What the hell is going on today?

user-pic

The Rassmussen poll is transposed. Not sure about SurveyUSA in Indiana.

user-pic

It says Illinois, not Indiana.

user-pic

Saw that. I haven't found a new SurveyUSA poll out of Illinois.

user-pic

Its for a single congressional district. It's not statewide.

user-pic

That Ohio number is a shocker! I couldn't believe my eyes so I went over to Quinnipiac to see for myself.

Landslide!! (Yes, yes I know keep working yadda yadda yadda...)

user-pic

The Battleground Polls seem to bear out the Ohio numbers as well.

Here's an interesting take about what the Republican party may REALLY be up to:

CONSPIRACY THEORY
The Evil Republican Plan To Invent
President Palin

I'm not very big on conspiracy theories, although I admit most probably carry more merit than many of us will ever know. But ever since watching the Vice-Presidential Debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin in what seems like an eternity ago, I may have come up with one of my own.

I watched admittedly mesmerized as the gaff-prone turned sudden media master Sarah Palin spoke, and I wondered aloud how did this moose hunting hockey mom appear near buffoon-like only days before with Katie Couric, but suddenly become capable of constructing a sentence...repeatedly for 90 minutes? Where was the bloody train wreck we all raced home and tuned in to see?? Why had the most anticipated reality show of the year cheated me out of seeing Sarah Palin get a political beatdown in front of millions on national T.V.??? Hmmm... I listened to her speak about "expanding" (Dick Cheney style) the role of the next Vice-President and my interest piqued. I recalled her Freudian slip on the campaign trail a few weeks ago when she beseeched voters to support the "PALIN-McCain" ticket. And then it hit me: What if this was all a set up? A hoax? An evil Republican plot to make Sarah Palin President of the United States?

Far-fetched? Maybe. Impossible? Not on your life! Let's dissect the facts.
