I love someone who really knows history. That's exactly what happened and it's happening to us and when we decided to go in and start bombing - which never made sense inasmuch as: Afghanistan has already been bombed back to the stone age, and if you know anything about the geography, then you know that it is almost impossible to conquer and occupy that country - I knew it would. I knew we'd spend too much money on bombs and military incursions when we could have taken half of that, rebuilt the country and won their hearts and minds.

But no - we had to bomb. And it got us a resurgent Taliban.

The focus of the WaPo story was about the glee of the Islamic fundamentalist over our financial despair and that points to the central problem.

While I don't think the financial crisis was caused by the wa rin Iraq, that war has drained us in much the same way the War in Afghanistan drained Russia - and it seems obvious that was Osama bin Laden's plan from the start.
