Hillary Hits McCain For Using Her In Ayers Assault

We asked Hillary spokesperson Kathleen Strand for a comment on McCain's use of Hillary today to attack Obama over his association with Bill Ayers today, and she sent over a barbed response:

As Hillary Clinton has criss-crossed the country for Barack Obama, she has said to anyone who will listen that we can't trust John McCain and the Republicans to fix this economy and turn our country around. Funny, John McCain isn't using those words.

That's not bad: It hits McCain for not wanting to discuss the economy, in keeping with the Obama campaign's message.

McCain, incidentally, appears to be misrepresenting what Hillary said about Ayers during the primary in order to legitimize his smear. McCain said today that Hillary had asserted that Ayers "should" come up.

While Hillary did point to Ayers as something Obama might have to deal with in a general election, to the best of our knowledge, Hillary only said that Republicans would bring it up, and lamented that fact.

When will McCreepy explode?

The countdown is definitely on now.

His minders better hope they've got him on a very short leash. Some unsuspecting citizen could look at him wrong and end up in the hospital.

I hope Obama and surrogates continue to goad him every day until the last debate. Then they can give him the damn hammer and let him nail his own damn coffin shut.

Has everyone who can vote early done so by now? Please vote early so you can help others get to the polls on November 4th.

I voted today!

I voted over the weekend.

nice avatar!

That response was great.

So Hillary has "criss-crossed the country" for Obama? Is she actually actively campaigning for him? Why haven't I seen anything about her public appearances for Obama? Are the articles and videoclips out there and I'm just missing them, or is this just a generous phrasing by a Hillary spokesperson?

You're missing them. She's certainly out there (not as much as Obama or Biden of course).

user-pic

Yes!

She's been in New Mexico - she was here last month.

Hillary is doing a wonderful job for Obama and I admire the hell out of her for it. She's proven she's a grown-up who realizes the entire universe doesn't revolve around her.

I give Hillary mad props.

Seconded. She's been great!

Totally agree. Mad as I was at her during the primaries, I have to take it all back now. She vaccinated Obama against these Ayers/Wright associations and she swallowed what had to be a very bitter pill when she lost the nomination. Mad props to her for all the work she's done on behalf of Obama.

I was furious with her.

But she stepped through that doorway into being a real live adult and she's frankly an inspiration.

We liberals believe that a person can be rehabilitated.

Both Hillary and Bill will be appearing with Joe Biden in Scranton, PA this Sunday.

She was here in Kentucky headlining a rally for Bruce Lunsford (running against Mitch McConnell), but she never mentioned Obama.

I'd say Bruce asked her not to mention Obama in hopes of fooling racists into thinking he's not on the same ticket.

Also, 3/4 of the crowd left after she spoke, not bothering to wait to hear Bruce.

Funny, with all of this "criss-crossing the country," the media sure as hell isn't covering it! Last I heard from the Clintons was Bill's speech.....last month!

I'd rather see Hillary say it herself.

Maybe she was criss-crossing it on a map with her finger . . .

Give it a rest, people.

If she doesn't say something, everyone's all over Hillary Clinton for not supporting Obama. If she does, you launch into a nitpicking discussion about the choice of words.

Seriously. Give it a rest. You sound petty and small.

And I was never a Hillary Clinton supporter, either.

Sean Hannity convinced George Snuffleupagus to ask about Ayers in the debate he co-moderated - that was the first time I believe Ayers was brought up in the Dem. Primary.

Months later, I can only thank Steponpoopolus and Insanity. They have rendered Ayers old news. It's funny that "ayer" means "yesterday" in Spanish.

Speaking of Clinton . . . The CNN just announced a poll were 47% of folk don't think McInsane will live through its first term . . . I think they underestimate the undead.

Atta girl, Team Hillary!

the McCain-Palin campaign's attempt to get Americans to focus on Obama's Chicago associations seems surreal -- or, as a British politician once said about criticism he was receiving, "like being savaged by a dead sheep."

LOL that got the laugh that scared every damn dove in the Taos Valley.

O god that's funny! LOLOLOLOL!!!!

For McMoron, this is a sad, sad end to an otherwise unremarkable career. For Palin, this is the beginning to a long, long journey on the road back to obscurity.

And maybe right out of office in Alaska.

I predict that she and the First Dude wind up in in a trailer park and spend the rest of their lives there.

Richard,

In all fairness to McCain, my Dad is 75 and is in the best shape of his life. As a result, I've never bought into the age issue with McCain.

DISCLAIMER: In no way do my words above mean I support McCain for Prez!!! EWWW!!!!

user-pic

mrlogical,

Surprisingly true to her words HRC has been on the road ALOT for Obama. You gotta look beyond the corporate media's lack of coverage . . . Apparently, DEMs supporting DEMs is not a news story unless Tucker Bounds can get five minutes of air time to smear it . . .

user-pic

Richard - Consider this - the local press cannot cover the entire campaign and when someone like Hillary comes to town, that's when people hear about it.

I don't know exactly what it is people think they aren't being told and why they think they should be.

There are all kinds of high-powered Democrats on the campaign trail for Obama - and you rarely hear about it and for god's sake, what does everyone expect?

Bill Richardson has been all over the US.

The last thing John McCain wants is to get in a tussle with Hill. She will trounce him like a cig bud.

Great Response. On message.

user-pic

She's going to have to get in line - Obama and Biden both have called McLame out now.

Heh!

Yep. I'm actually glad McLame used Hillary. I don't think she'll be happy, and as we have seen in the primaries she does like a good fight.

Shame on you McCain. Shame. On. You.

user-pic

mrlogical,

Strangely true to her word, HRC is sending ALOT of time on the road campaigning for Obama. Apparently, the corporate media does not feel DEMs supporting DEMs news worthy unless Tucker Bounds can log five minutes of air time smearing them.

Tucker Bounds is as useless as Braille at a drive-through ATM!

Put it this way, Bounds ran Dole's campaign in 1996...nuff said!

user-pic

He ran Dole's campaign when he was 17 years old?

Well, that explains a lot, I guess.

.. about both campaigns.

Obama buys a half hour of network primetime television

http://www.thrfeed.com/2008/10/obama-primetime.html

The Big O ain't plsying around. Go Obama!!

Brianna,

Come on in - we've all been cabbage-patchin' about that bought primetime tv time here - GOBAMA!!!

My bad - I was wrong above. I meant he was an aide for Dole's campaign manager. Whoops!

HOLY CRAP - don't tell me I just pulled a "What he meant to say..." Republican ploy to cover up my f*** up! :-)

user-pic

No worries. You admitted you were wrong. Republicans don't know the meaning of "I was wrong".

user-pic

GREG - Hillary went after Obama on AYres for her own purposes in the April PA debate -

CLINTON: Well, I think that is a fair general statement, but I also believe that Senator Obama served on a board with Mr. Ayers for a period of time, the Woods Foundation, which was a paid directorship position.

And, if I'm not mistaken, that relationship with Mr. Ayers on this board continued after 9/11 and after his reported comments, which were deeply hurtful to people in New York and, I would hope, to every American, because they were published on 9/11, and he said that he was just sorry they hadn't done more.

And what they did was set bombs. And in some instances, people died. So it is -- I think it is, again, an issue that people will be asking about.

And I have no doubt -- I know Senator Obama's a good man and I respect him greatly, but I think that this is an issue that certainly the Republicans will be raising.

And it goes to this larger set of concerns about how we are going to run against John McCain. You know, I wish the Republicans would apologize for the disaster of the Bush-Cheney years and not run anybody, just say that it's time for the Democrats to go back into the White House.

Greg, please stop carrying water for Hillary.

user-pic

My thoughts exactly.

HRC's response was really poor. She failed to denounce the relationship whatsoever. Very tepid response.

She failed to even denounce her own words regarding Obama and Ayers...that would have been a good stsrt.

I think that was a completely fair response, and I believe Obama awesomely countered that Bill Clinton commuted the sentences of two Weathermen while he was president.

And, you know, in the end she was right. The Republicans are running with the Ayers line of attack in the lowest way possible, and I wonder what the polls would look like if we didn't have an economic crisis keeping people focused on the big stuff this year. (I would obviously never say that we are lucky because this all-around sucks, but I will not pretend it is not politically-fortuitous in the short term for the Democrats.)

Both Hillary and Bill will be appearing with Joe Biden in Scranton, PA this Sunday.

This is what I wrote back on May 16. I think I got it right. For the record, I was never a Hillary supporter.

I think that all the Obama supporters who think HRC will continue to damage Obama have it all wrong. In a few weeks, the democrats will have campaigned in almost every state (sorry Fl. MI) and interest in democratic candidates has never been higher. If you, as an Obama supporter, continue to claim that HRC is only in it for herself and is damaging the party, I think you will be embarrassed when events unfold between now and when the convention is over. I believe that HRC, (and Obama, of course) will help unite the party between now and the convention. Then, when everyone is watching at the convention, she will make a great speech. You may not like the things she has done to try to get elected, but in the end, if you don't think she will try to do the best thing for the party, prepare to be surprised. I expect big things from her. This is a really big party, and there are a lot of different types of people in it and HRC, like her or not, deserves a lot of credit for raising interest and awareness. Hillary, please don't prove me wrong. Get out the Vote. The world is watching.

Wow! Rasmussen still has Obama ahead in Florida and North Carolina.

Hillary, we miss you. We need you - a person (a real woman) we can look up to!!!

Cindy McCain calls Obama's the "dirtiest campain in history".

Obama may have bought a $3 million projector.

But McCain is married to a $100 million projector.

Now...

Let us reflect on the gift that Sarah Palin has given us all:

http://thetruthburns.wordpress.com/2008/10/09/maybe-i-aint-no-genius-but-is-sure-is-smartern-her/

To the person that said had Hillary really been out,you have to get past Cnn and Politico who only want to keep tension going. Hillary has done more for Obama than anyone who came in 2nd place. Go to her website. She has been to Ohio, florida, California, Nevada, New Mexico and she has helped raise over 8million for Obama. She also has to deal with Hillpac and helping other dems win/keep their senate seats.

And Bill will be here in Richmond Sunday evening for a rally as well. Can't wait!
